In this video, I show a detailed overview of the Alpine iLX-W650. This does not show Android Auto or CarPlay, here we are looking at just the basic head unit features. I have separate videos on Android Auto and CarPlay. I do show bluetooth audio, USB audio, the camera, and general settings.
The Alpine iLX-W650 is installed in my 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Freedom Edition.

just got this stereo on my jeep and the guy who installed it for me did a bypass for the brake thing and it works great!

I put this unit in my 2015 wrangler. You have to disengage having to pull the parking break up. That’s a bunch of crap. It’s a good basic unit. You want to make sure when you have it installed that they hook up the steering wheel so you can do the volume and change channels on it. I have a nice amplifier to the speakers and a nice amp for my subwoofer in the very back. You have to replace the speakers.

I never had any problems with the Alpine iLX-W650. I have since replaced it with the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX, but that's just because I wanted wireless Android Auto.

I'm looking to get this stereo, and have done a lot of research into it. According to what I've read, Alpine implemented a security feature so that people cannot bypass the parking brake. You have to apply, release and then re apply the brake for the settings to become usable.

Can also install a 2 prong rocker switch - chassis ground --> switch --> parking brake stereo wire. Works a charm if you want to save $15 for the bypass offered on amazon (it's just a relay).

Pressing and holding the home button for one second turns off the unit. The Clock/Off Display on or off shows or hides the clock when it is off. (per the user guide) Edit: Guess I should have waited to watch the whole video! :-)

I have this unit installed in a 2018 Wrangler JK with external amplifiers. When I shut off the Jeep after playing Apple CarPlay I get a loud pop. I do not get this pop when I use just the radio. I do have it wired with a PAC controller for steering wheel controls. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas? I’ve tried several different ground paths but no change.

I am wondering where the fillers came from. The spacers on the left side and right side. I got the Metra Dash Kit with mine and they are textured or rough like sandblasted finish. They don't match the shinny rim of the radio or the shinny of my Ram dash.

You would plug in a USB thumb drive instead of a phone for CarPlay or Android Auto. I think that is right, I haven't had this head unit in awhile. Stay Wide Awake is a masterpiece

Looks like to enter setup you need to engage the parking brake, release it, then engage again. Maybe not a problem with how hard it is applied?

What the hell does pulling the brake up have to do with the radio?

You have to set the emergency brake to access some of the settings. It is a safety feature

I just installed this unit and I tossed in some JBL 3.5 dash speakers in my Commander. I am now getting a pretty bad hiss when connected to Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth. The hiss isn’t so bad with the regular radio. Thoughts?

The Sony XAV-AX100 had a volume knob but it was essentially too small to be really useful

On the Alpine you have to pull the parking break to get to the settings

Have you installed an amplifier to this head unit? Is there a special remote wire to hook up an amp/sub? The plug for the "remote" wire looks just like the Microphone plug on the back of the unit, so I am stuck on that. I dont see anything online anywhere.

Yes, I have an NVX amplifier. It does need a remote turn on wire. The wire just needs to go to the amplifier, it doesn't technically have to plug into the amplifier. I tapped into my cigarette lighter. You just need to be sure it is a wire that only turns on when the key is on

Nope, you can't move anything. This is a good radio for the price, but I have since replaced it with the Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX and I much prefer it

I think this stereo is overrated. And most likely your gonna have to buy amplifier. Kinda hesitant to buy it .

I wouldn't call it overrated, I would say it is probably rated correctly. For the price, it is one of the best head units you can buy and thanks to the short chasis, it is an easy install. However, I much prefer my Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX. Now the need for an amplifier will be relative to the user. It will make stock speakers sound better, and it was a definite improvement with my 77Kick10 speakers. However, the better speakers you get the more you will need an external amplifier, but that would be true of just about any head unit.

5after12 I have had some Kenwoods with MOSFET amps in them and sounded real good. I normally like to run external amps. But trying to cut cost and connect a Rockford Fosgate mono amp for bass and just use power from stereo to run 4 speakers 🔊
