Alpine Type R Subwoofer | Is the 5th gen the best yet? 

where can I find the cone replacement for this subwoofer? mine came apart from the spider and the cone backing got shredded.

Im thinking of getting two of the type r 12's 2 ohm subwoofers, would this run well with a kicker 1500.1?

Which would you recommend the hifonics zeus, brutus, or gladitator series or an mb quart onyx series amp to power this alpine type r ?

i currently run 1800 watts to my 2 and it sounds amazing. have it in a ported box also got from sonic. ground shaker 1.7cube per sub with aero port. sounds awesome but now im looking to go louder.

i have the SWR 12d4, is an MRX M110 amp with 1100 rms at 2 ohms a good match? because the one i have is the second one i have owned due to blowing the first one up in 3 days

The Alpine type rs are my favorite I am about to build a ported box tuned To 30 Hz to get more low and extension but you cannot go wrong with Alpine's I don't care what anybody says they are clean and loud period and sound good with in genre of music with kickers I found that you could only make them make noise with rap or heavy bass but with Alpine's they are always hitting hard on everything from country to classic to dub step and rap

Lol, it’s total max power and total max rms power meaning you’re not really supposed to give them the full 1000. Give them like 750 rms and they’ll do you justice. Put em in the right box tuned low. Don’t turn the gain up to much and don’t beat on it constantly.the ported box is what makes it these subs loud too

I just bought two of the fifth generation type r's. I got a 2600 watt soundstream tarantula amp to go with it but i have no wires. What kind of wires do you think i should get because some of my friends say 4 guage others say 2 guage and some say 0 guage?

We have a video tutorial on how to set your gain setting on your amplifier. You can find it on our RU-vid channel. As for LPF, set it for 80Hz and don't touch the bass boost. Your radio should also have LPF at 80Hz.

Haha the funniest thing about any car audio woofers - speakers, need a break in period of like 50+ hours (at a reasonable volume that will not cause hearing damage after an hour of listening) for that ''sonic boom''

@bouge laal depends on what you are looking for for accuracy and sound quality it would be fine for loudness I would want 2 cubes per 12 at the least

If you're going for loudness and SPL go with the Kicker L7. If youre looking for more sound quality driven sound go for the Type R.

I know this sub says 1000 rms..but would 600 rms or 500 rms be enough for this sub? Looking at getting two of them pushing either 5 or 600 rms to each sub..but it won't hurt to under power them?

You will hear this two ways, some people think a break in period is absolutely required, others think it is pointless. Bottom line, it is worth it to let the woofers break in for a few days before turning up the volume, this lets all of the stiff components to loosen up a bit and flex properly.

Yes it would work. It only becomes a problem when you go "I want it louder" and turn the gain knob all the way up. As long as you set your gain on your amp correctly, you shouldn't have any problems.

Any amplifier that outputs 2000W RMS at 1 ohm if you have Dual 4 ohm subs, or 2000W RMS at 2 ohms if you have Dual 2 Ohm subs.

I agree. But I just bought the SWR-1522D which still is a good sub. Its voice coil is the same size as the one in the 5th gen Type Rs. I'll bet they're pretty similar.

planning to run 12 type R 10 inch subwoofers in a B pillar wall. everyone knocking this subwoofer down do remind your self if something looks like a defect to you there is warranty to get a replacement because of a bad made subwoofer. and for people who say don't invest in this just means they never had a good installer. I use to have 2 of the type R 10s for more then 1/2 a year and it was awesome none the less. not here to say they are the best subs out there. but might be my favorite sub I use to own. I now have sp4 18s and they are nuts when im playing close to 9000 rms to them. and I remember how much bass the 2 10 type R I was running. so im going back to my old idea and build a wall for my last build. hey if its not loud as what I hope w/e its a build I wanted to do for a while. mostly pointing out. just wait and see how loud my build is. hoping to get my doors done 1st though but you will see soon in 2015 how loud they can get with a little fun in going nuts with type R subwoofers

I currently have a Ground Zero gzta1.800dx which is rated at 850watts rms@1%thd. Not sure about how good I am since I've only modified an existing speaker box to have a thicker baffle, and tried different reflex tubes on the side and front. It's about 45litres now, 4" and 40cm aeroport on the baffle. So far the best SPL, but doesnt sound as good as side port :) I've read alot of things about port length vs diameter, and port placing on the box, where the ports should face in a trunk etc.

Man if the new Type Rs are that redesigned, what do the new Type Xs have done to them? I had one Type X with a Alpine M12 and that was a perfect combo. Cant wait to get my hands on these.

Go with the 2000+ watt version of the Brutus amplifier. Each of those subs can handle 1000W RMS so you need 2000W or more.

I have a Power Acoustik BAMF5500/1D 5500 Watt Peak 3200 Watt RMS Mono Amplifier tht I bought for my two type rs I have a 20 farad power cap and getting a ne battery am i good or is this t much I already bought its s oshould I just down grade to lower watts and better quality amp or what or could I just keep it and start it of at 3200 rms for the amp idk?

Hi I bought 2 Alpine Type R DVC 10” subs from you guys. Haven’t hooked them up yet. Bought a Zeus Hifonics 3216.1D to power them, all 1/0 100% OFC. It’s going to be wired to two ohm load so each sub should get around 800 RMS. Is this too much for these subs? Comments on here have me worried that I’ll blow them. It’s the first system I’ll be doing on my own. I’ve seen the tests of this amp on Dyno and it’s pretty close to its rating

brought one of these subs from sonic, and six months later(lite usage) the cone separated from the surround.. sound was good until that happened.

We do too. The problem is it handles a bit more power than the rest of the subwoofers featured in the sub olympics, so it would have been very unfair.

Go for a Brutus series amp, it should have plenty of power for a Type R.

As long as you're running it at 2 ohms, it would be a good match.

I wish I actually got the one I ordered from you. I ordered the SWR12D2 and received the WR12D2. So I got the old one that only handles 2250 w. I emailed you guys still waiting for a response.

More or less.. technically what determines how much power a sub can withstand is the coil's thermal rating, because the energy it uses gives off quite a lot of heat. Companies (some do, some don't) wrap/go over the coil in a chemical substance that allows it to withstand more heat, and therefore more power. There is a gentleman on RU-vid that has designed his own formula for a coil coating, so strong that, theoretically, you could wall socket it for days and it wouldn't burn up.

Doesn't the amp's manual say something about this? All you have to do is Google amplifier power cable size and click on the the12volt link. There is a lot of info out there on this.

Also, sundown amps are just as crazy as their subs. Expensive tho.

I wish these companies selling this fairly high priced subs had a removable basket for when they blow up. Would be a lot cheaper then having to buy a whole new sub. One reason why I wish Peavey would make a car sub like they did with the black widows.

Yes the MRX amp would be just fine. You need to make sure you set your gain controls correctly so you don't ruin your sub or amp.

actually according to andrew, sonicelectronix's technition, the dbxi's can handle wayyyy more power then advertised, he said since im lookin for spl and sq, this would b the sub to go for

Europe has ground zero and earthquake sound which are both good subwoofer brands but i dont know any other underground European subwoofer brands. As for Sundowns, they are SQL the entry level sundown SA-12s are underrated at 600 rms but everyone i know who has them is pushing 1200+ clean rms easy, bass is still tight smooth and controlled while your car falls apart from the impact. Sub stays cool after a huge punding session also.

This would fill that small car with ALOT of bass.

The Type X is going to be best for SQ, it is their top of the line woofer.

The problem in my country is either buy cheap alpine or ground zero, or pay twice for sundown that the shops have to import :) Are the sundowns better in SQ and SPL at the same time? The best 12" sub i've heard so far is a 1000w rms Ground Zero GZRW30SPL, so I'm very unexperienced. Actually made that comment based on other peoples talks about type-r's beating some other subs. Maybe got a bit too carried away :)

That is slightly overkill, if and only if you have the upgraded alternator and batteries to get that amplifier to produce that kind of power at 1 ohm. If you set your gain right, it should work out well.

when i first got it, i burped it out the 2nd day, and it was fine, still was loud as my friend's burned in properly one.

okay bro I'm upload a video of the speaker's plan and try to get some good sound from my mic because my camera has a silly mic on it so I'm going to let you hear how it sounds so I took him out my car and put it in my girl's car but man them speakers are amazing
