Bought a set of four 1022D subs in 2004. Used them for 12 years in various trucks using two 1000 watt Alpine amps. They are now in my TV room in a pair of nicely finished sealed boxes being driven by a Crown XLS 2502 pro amp (1200w/rms x 2 @ 2 ohms). In home the Type R subs are very slam happy but also play very well at low volumes. They sound great.

@TC824STORM Excellent question. The newer Type R subwoofers only have one spider to help with the shallower mounting depth. The newer Type R's have about an inch less of mounting depth to work with, so they can work in even smaller enclosures. The new FEA optimized Spider is reinforced to compensate for the previous "mirrored"spider design.

I have 3 15" type r's in my extended cab truck with 2750 watts rms at 1 ohm pushing them. The beat very hard!! My mirror keeps coming unglued and falling off. They aren't the best but they pound very hard and have a tight quick response and very good bass extention with the correct box. Good subs man.

They are both great subs. The Type R is a very popular, top performing woofer.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 12 лет назад
If you give the subwoofer the proper amount of air space that it requires, it should sound pretty good. An 8" subwoofer isn't going to pound at bass, but it will certainly raise the levels of your lower frequency spectrum. The 8" Type-R requires 0.15-0.50 cubic feet of sealed air space, and we highly recommend giving it that 0.50.

@iTzMeChucky It totally depends if your cars lights already dim when the bass hits hard. If they do we would recommend upgrading your battery, as it usually takes care of those issues at your power levels.

@TheGriffster7 Honestly, you cant go wrong either way. They are both the same rated power and will both be able to handle this amp no problem.

This sub would work with your amp as long as you run it at 2 ohms. As far as your box goes, you need to make sure it fits the specifications for the sub. You can find that info on Kickers site.

@moddkilla I would recommend the following, Polk Audio PA600.1, Massive Audio D1200, or the Kicker DX500.1. Any of these amplifiers will work perfect for that subwoofer. Just make sure you wire the voice coils in parallel to a final impedance of 1 ohm.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 11 лет назад
be sure to check all your wiring so that the sub is getting the right wattage and wired to the right impedance. Is it getting the right amount of power? what kind of amp?
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 11 лет назад
It depends on the impedance of the subwoofer. Are you looking for 600 watts RMS at 1, 2 or 4ohms?

@SonicElectronix

@NovaKid69 Some great options to amplify that subwoofer would be the Alpine MRP-M500. That amp would be a great Alpine matchup and has great control over the subwoofer for impacting sound quality. Another amplifier of quality that is worth mentioning is the JL Audio JX500/1. If you want to go with something a bit more affordable, consider the Kenwood KAC-8104D.

@EvilDeskLamp If you are looking for loud rattling bass, then you should go with the 15". It will be able to hit lower bass notes then the 12".

The type of box you would want, totally depends on y=the type of bass you like. It will do well in a ported or sealed box. Also, the JBL amp is definitely a good choice.

@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@1000NoteStreak Both subwoofers are great options to consider. You can drive either setups with an amplifier capable of 800-1000 watts of RMS power. If you went with the Type R's you could get a 1200 watt RMS amplifier, but it would honestly be more cost efficient to go with a 1000 watt RMS amplifier usually. Do you plan on building your own enclosure? If so, the Type R's sound really great in a box built to their specifications. The CVR will work better in a range of enclosures though.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 12 лет назад
If you go with the 12" Dual 4ohm Alpine Type-R, we recommend an amplifier that produces 1200 watts at 1ohm. The NVX JAD1200.1 would be a fantastic choice.

@DorckWoW The Alpine Type R Sub can handle a lot of power and will stand up beyond the stated RMS rating.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 12 лет назад
@artbking1 This is mainly just done for appearances. If done right it will not sound any different. Keep in mind that if you do this you will have to invert your phase setting on your amplifier. It is also possilbe that you may hear the mechanical sounds of the subwoofer by inverting it. However, with a beefy sub like the Type R, you will not hear mechanical noise.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@faisal0808 The impedance, or ohms that a subwoofer is rated at really only effects it's wiring options with compatible amplifiers. If you're planning on running one subwoofer, then I would recommend using the Dual 4 Ohm model, so you can wire it down to a final impedance of 2 ohms. If you're planning on running two subwoofers, I'd recommend the Dual 2 Ohm model so you can wire the subwoofer back to 2 Ohms. The MRP-M1000 amp would be compatible in this case, or the R1000-1D would also work.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@eppi1064 Depends on the power you'd be running. If you ran a 1000-1200W amp on the Type R's you'd most likely get more bass than you would out of one 12" L7 at 750-800W RMS. Two 10" drivers will get you more responsiveness and more air movement because of the separate drivers. Plus they handle more power with the combination. The bass output in both setups will be similar, but the sound quality will be different.

Would a sealed or ported box be better when using these type r's in a 1996 lincoln towncar?
@luiscontreras9615
@luiscontreras9615 4 года назад
Do you have to connect to all terminals or u can just use 2 of them ?
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@eppi1064 With two separate drivers you'll get some nice responsiveness with the two Type R's. One thing to consider is that the 12" subwoofer might have more potential to hit lower frequencies. The 10" subs might not be able to perform very well under 30 Hz. Other than that, yeah you'll have comparable bass output with some tight responsiveness and sound quality.

The Hifonics Brutus BRZ1200. It is CEA Compliant and would be an awesome match for two, Dual 4-ohm Type-Rs. You would want to wire them to a 1-ohm load so they would be receiving 600 watts RMS each.
@36MICHAELFUNKE
@36MICHAELFUNKE 13 лет назад
@SonicElectronixTV Okay I did not realize that. And if you've heard the type r, and the p3d412, which would you say I should go with for sound quality, and which has the more hard hitting bass?
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@Dinam1ta If you purchase the Dual 4ohm version of the Alpine Type-R's, your final impedance will be 1ohm. A great amp that produces 1200 watts RMS @ 1ohm is the Hifonics Brutus BRZ1200.1D. This thing will make those subs sounds absolutely fantastic. If you go with the Dual 2ohm version, then the Kicker ZX1000.1 would be a great choice. Kicker amplifiers are under-rated. It will deliver a good 1200 watts RMS @ 2ohms to those subs even though it's rated at 1000.

Ive purchased these 2 12in dual 4ohm subs and a amp from ur website a few years ago and installed it in my wifes suv with a 4 gauge wire. The amp blew...I have a spare amp sitting in my garage rated 2500rms @ 1ohm. Will this amp work with the the gain down, also you think I can get by with the 4 gauge wire or should I rewire the car with 0 gauge.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 12 лет назад
@MrManup3 To be honest, you cant go wrong ether way. It really comes down to the enclosure. For a bandpass box, the P3 requires a smaller cubic volume so it really depends on how big your bandpass box will be.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@Dinam1ta If you have the Dual 4 ohm version subs go with the BRZ1200.1D. Run the subs to 1 ohm final impedance, this will give each sub 600W RMS. If you have the Dual 2 ohm subs go with the BRZ1700.1D and run the subs to a final impedance of 2 ohms. This will also give each sub 600W RMS. These amplifiers are solid and dependable and best of all affordable.

hey i was just wondering, im about to get 2 15" alpine type r's dual 2 ohms. and im not sure what kind of amp should i get. you think you could help me out?
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@jesse80205 It would be better to go with the Dual 2 Ohm models and wire them back to 2 Ohms. The reason is because the BRZ1700.1 at 1 Ohm would overpower the subwoofers a bit. Running the subwoofers down to 2 ohms will push 1200 watts into them, which is a perfect matchup for their power handling capabilities.
@crax4dan

Got a Question, my alpine Type R sub is getting close to 4years old now, and I'm about to get a 2nd one installed, since one of the subs will be old and the other one new will the older one still be ok? will I need to replace it? Is this old in terms of a car sub? I have been using it with a PDX 600watt rms digital amp in a ported box with 4guage wire, professionally installed
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@chaffinballer09 We wouldn't really say that those two subwoofers are comparable. MTX Audio Terminators are considered more of an entry level subwoofer so they're going to have less power handling and won't be as loud. If you want to go with a MTX Audio subwoofer comparable to the Alpine Type R, consider the TR55 or the TR75. If you're looking for a subwoofer that can get a little louder, the square TS55 and TS85 are also great options to go with.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 12 лет назад
If you are aiming for sound quality go with the X 12. If your priority is SPL, go with the R 15. Wider surface area will result in more sound.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@RazerStyled The Type R's will require a larger amplifier. If you switch out the subwoofers, you should use an amplifier capable of 100 watts of RMS power. This way you can actually get better results from the upgraded subwoofer, instead of getting similar output with newer speakers, and potentially running distortion through the Type R's.

I have a question. Im loving the reviews on the type R and I'm thinking of looking into one. But what size is the best? 12" or 15"? I'm the kind of person who wants loud rattling bass. Any help?
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@juanfeorion Well, that depends on what you're after. They're going to have similar bass response, but the Alpine Type R will sound better with small subwoofer enclosures, and the newer model is rated to be able to handle a little more power. You may be able to get more out of a Rockford Fosgate P3 though. They're comparable subwoofers and it's all about personal preference when choosing between the two. Either choice is excellent in our opinion, both are great subwoofers.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@Dinam1ta It can, I would just suggest being cautious. Why is your sub-level all the way up? Also when you increase your bass level the subwoofer become more distorted, so you gain bass output but lose bass accuracy and quality.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 12 лет назад
@KingBre99 The Pioneer GM-D8500M would be a great fit for a Alpine SWR-1243D Type-R. You would want to run it a 2 ohms which would give you 600 watts RMS.
@bsiffy
@bsiffy 13 лет назад
Im getting an infinity amp that will run it at 600 rms..will that be loud enough/bang hard enough? I want it to sound really good
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@Wornskibum Well a Kicker L7 has more power handling and also a much bigger surface area. Due to this the L7 will create more bass than the Type R will. However both are great subwoofers and many people prefer a round sub to a square sub. The Type R will have a tighter, more accurate bass because of its structure. So the main deciding factor would be do you want more bass or more accurate hitting bass? If you want better clarity go with the Type R, if you want more bump go with the L7.

Which Amplifier is recommended for a couple of these subwoofer
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 13 лет назад
@Dinam1ta If you have the Dual 4ohm version of the Type-R's, you will want to wire your subwoofers to a final impedance of 4ohms by following a subwoofer wiring guide. This will produce about 1500 watts RMS for the subs which is plenty. Ported boxes result in heavier bass output and an average 3db gain in volume. Sealed enclosures are punchier but not as resonating at lower frequencies.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 14 лет назад
@shanil2009 I'm going to assume the Legacy amplifier is not CEA-Compliant and therefore over-rated. Assuming it's only -slightly- over-rated that should be a nice match up. If you have a mono amplifier, and the Dual 2 Ohm version of the 15" Type R and you wire it to 4 Ohms, you should have yourself a working application.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 12 лет назад
@Spades568 This amplifier is only powerful enough to power 1 Alpine Type R efficently. We would recommend a bigger amplifier for two of them.
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 12 лет назад
It depends on the size and application you will be using
@SonicElectronix
@SonicElectronix 14 лет назад
@liltonz609 That should be perfect. These subs, whether it's the old or new model, require basically anywhere from .60 cubic feet, to 1.0 cubic feet per chamber. That box should be perfect. If you don't like the sound, I'd recommend a custom box, built to the specs by Alpine.

@1Pueblito In my personal opinion I prefer the Type R, but it comes down to preference both are great woofers and have a power rating of 600. The Type R will cover more surface area and thus hit a bit louder and harder but it also depends on the enclosure. Not one sub is better than the other they just offer different sounds.

@acer1234acer The Pioneer will be louder because they can handle more RMS than the Type R. These are some amps that will work perfect for those subs: JL Audio JX1000/1D, Hifonics BRZ1200.1D, Boston Acoustics GTA-1000m, Rockford Fosgate PRIME R1000-1D, Kicker DX1000.1, Alpine MRX-M100 and the Kicker ZX1000.1. @UnStupified If I may suggest go with two of the Alpine SWR-1542D subwoofers wired to 1 ohm final impedance and the Hifonics Brutus BRZ1700.1D amplifier.
