This section includes the new section fro Omarama to Benmore Dam which is probbaly the best section of the whole trail. If yopu are time crunched Section 5: Omarama to Otematata [35km] is the way to go!
Kurow Population 380 and birthplace of Richie McCaw is worth a walk around to visit the museum and a wine tasting at Ostler Wines.

Very interesting Jason as I'm looking at doing the whole 300 kms but your sectioning advice has me thinking maybe pick the eyes out of the trail.

It was good to do it all for the adventure and achievent but there are definately some sections better than others. No doubt you will have fun either way.

Great videos!!! Hoping you can help me with a recommendation. What two sections of the Alps 2 Ocean trail would you recommend for day trips with rental ebikes? We will be there end of November and would ideally prefer beautiful scenery but not too crowded, and with mostly dedicated bike trails.
