It seems that based on the video serotonin acts as some sort of mood regulator. I think those with low serotonin are more prone to mood swings and aggression, which makes sense since you would need to be more aggressive if your status was low. But the curious thing is how raising serotonin would increase status. Maybe this is because high serotonin allows for more social bonding and cooperation, which in turn would increase status.
@EMlNENCJA
@EMlNENCJA Год назад
Most agression appears as there is actually a mixture of high seratonin and cortisol i guess. In my opinion, low seratonin makes it easier to get high cortisol, but it does not directly translate to agression (high cortisol means more fight/flight, but low seratonin in humans at least also means LESS „fight” and more „flight” behaviour). Usually more seratonin means less cortisol, more cortisol means less seratonin. Seratonin is actually linked to „feeling dominant” (not necessarily socio-economic one, but there is a higher chance of that to occur in both lowest of the low and higher classes). In conclusion, high seratonin and cortisol combination is the reason not for the most intense acts of agression and hate (prolonged high cortisol), but since it is the combination that is most likely to trigger „fight” responce, it leads to more numerous outbursts of anger in humans. Think of the guy that becomes nuts due to pent up agression and randomly snaps from time to time into murder-hobo vs relatively more oftenly angry shouting boss.

Short term stress actually increases serotonin, but after time you get burn-out. Then you need to INCREASE serotonin. As in my life. It's non stop stress, as for my autistic son as well. Then again, dopamine is also very important. TOo much dopmaine is schizo, too little is parkinson, right? So where do we find the balance?

1:20 The alpha male has the highest serotonin 1:25 The guy at the very bottom has the lowest 1:37 Turns out the alpha male rarely fights 1:45 He uses social interactions to preserve his position 2:26 After a couple of weeks of increased serotonin, low level monkeys have their status go up 2:36 The other males don't notice, but the females notice it 2:42 The females immediately pick up, "there's something different about this guy" 2:50 The females start paying more attention to him and then the rest of the males follow 2:55 He then becomes the alpha male 3:00 The drug given to the monkey (to make him alpha) was Prozac 3:22 Scientists changed the social behavior of the monkey by changing its balance of serotonin 3:36 Low serotonin monkeys take risks 3:52 Low serotonin monkeys get into trouble 4:28 Low serotonin monkeys try to fight bigger monkeys but get beat up

@@claudiojosepe8244 I hope your not still a fan. High seritonin in humans reduces pleasure, make you very sensitive to social pressure particularly negative pressure to control which gose perfectly with the fact it makes you feel like an automaton. You lose your ability to have lively flowing conversations your ability to think ouside the box, crackling jokes etc... Makes you weak as seritonin is linked to estrogen. Serotonin in human causes increases in estrogen and estrogen causes increases in seritonin. Peterson knows his base, they are social outcasts, losers. His advice appears to be uplifting but in reality it is ment to get these losers to accept there place. A real book for self improvement would be something like cultivating power: the art of self development if you surch for it in amazon im sure you can take a free look.

Well, when there's too much serotonin this is true (for example the son/daughter of millonaires or famous people). The problem with raising dopamin and lowering cortisol for a long time it's that you no longer find pleasure or security by your own terms, just by external sources (other people, money, food, some drugs). High dopamine/low serotonin= Motivation/risks/sexdrive/drive/competitive/hungry High serotinin/low dopamine= cooperation/friendship/grateful/sleepy/slow movements/security prone
@mariano1018
@mariano1018 2 месяца назад
Also, in this new world big corporations prefer low serotonin people so they can exploit them more, work more for less pay and having less resistance. And individual with more serotonin and dopamine it's more competitive and want to take charge, rather than the other that it's just a low status employee

A good way and a more sustainably effective way to raise and maintain the serotonin level is to help or pay the people who have helped you in the past. Including doctors, teachers, even the jailwardens and the detectives. Charity could work but giving thanks is more sustainably effective

This confirm's Jordan Peterson's Lobsters, at least by dispelling every argument that relies upon, "Lobsters are too far removed from humans to try and compare their behavior", since well, primates are significantly closer than most. Discus?
@shadyeighty1
@shadyeighty1 3 года назад
It doesn't confirm Peterson's theory, if anything it does the exact opposite. High serotonin concentration in lobster's serum rises their confidence and capability for aggressive behaviour -- they're more willing to fight even if they have previously lost. When it comes to humans and primates, higher serotonin concetration does not seem to produce aggresive behaviour, but social & confident instead. It's kind of puzzling, but I think that's because there's a misconception as to what 'alpha male' actually means. It's not the bully that claims the alpha status and rules over others with force, which kind of makes sense that serotonin gives a rise to co-operative behaviour... It's well documented that if there's a bully amongst the monkey troop, others will team up to the point where the strongest monkey stands no chance and beat him down relentlessly.
@CapnHilts
@CapnHilts 3 года назад
@@shadyeighty1 You need to re-read Chapter 1 (in its entirety) from Petersons 12 Rules. This exactly lines up with his understanding of Serotonin. He says it makes you more confident, more caring, more likely to use social skills to maintain dominance, etc. He does mention confidence in fighting, to your point, but Peterson definitely mentions those other things listed above.
@tartanhandbag
@tartanhandbag 2 года назад
@@CapnHilts and you need to read more Robert Sapolsky (one of the world's leading neuroendocrinologists and primatologists). His book "Behave" is quite an achievement in the literature on human nature, but for a taste you could read chapter 11 from his collection of essays "the trouble with testosterone", which serves to illustrate some important ground rules for discussing the effects of hormones and neurotransmitters on behaviour. this particular essay is also that which provides the book its title. If you're watching a video like this for fun, you will love both of the books i have just recommended.

It also reduce your empathy and make you feel flat, selfish and passionless. No thank you, I don’t want to be an alpha detached robot. SSRIs made me become conservative. One week after stopping them, I returned to my moderate progressive values because I was able to put myself in others’ shoes. Humans are emotional beings and we have to be emotionally invested in something to pursue it. On the other hand, SSRIs made me feel grateful and capable of see all the positive things around me. Not always a good thing because you need a little bit of dissatisfaction to improve your life and call people out when they wrong you so they alter their behavior. That is how we can evolve as a society. I’m happy to have them as a tool tho but only for temporary usage and when it’s so necessary. All range of human feelings have to be respected. They all can can have great impacts on your growth if we know how to channel them. Even fear and sadness. Using antidepressant made me appreciate my feelings so much and let them take their courses without obsessing about being happy all the time. I celebrated my first time I was able to cry after quitting antidepressant because I missed that therapeutic cry so much. I now know what toxic positivity means. Yes, we have the right to pursue happiness but we shouldn’t expect ourselves to be happy or grateful all the time. We’re not hardwared for that and it’s not good for us. I now see anxiety for what it intended for, our brain’s way of protecting us and preventing us from repeating previous mistakes. No wonder a lot of mass shooters were on SSRIs!
