You misunderstood the ending. In the end, she gave up and adopted "alternative math" to have more money. This is what most of the scientific world has been doing for years which will support any nonsense for money.
this is like, whats happening to this world. they say they are women while their biological is men. thats not gonna change lol. but they making a big deal out of it
This is not a fact, this is an abstraction, which is more or less accepted worldwide. But indeed, there are different ways to understand "2+2", and "22" is one of them. Not in school maths, obviously.
True, but I imagine the film is made to speak to the potential 'math deniers' and therefore the writers probably assumed they couldn't handle math that 'complicated' (what it is, grade 1?)
What's really sad is that this video wasn't far off from reality. I've had students curse me out. The parents claimed that their child was exercising his right to free speech. I've seen students commit acts of vandalism only to be told that I must be mistaken because their child would never do anything like that. I was once physically assaulted by a student. The parents claimed that I must have provoked their child. In all of these cases, I received no support from my building administration.
Welcome to the New World Order...if in fact this takes place they deserve to be stupid...the truth will out the ignorantance..first time they need math to build something ..a school perhaps...they will understand..this is exactally why we are in the place wete in..love the ending...yaaay for the teacher!
@@locobacano9462 are you blind? This was not about the right. This was about the left. It isnt the right that says women have penises, ignoring every piece of truth that stares them in the face.
First of all, this is such a great short film. It depicts so extremely and yet accurately modern society. And second of all, if the logic of addition was to put the two number next to each other 2,000 + 2,000 would equal 20,002,000 , so she should have asked for that.
I get what you're saying but dystopian stories with really similar messages have existed for a lot longer than 20 years. Humanity just never seems to learn
@@lamewurk6265 It is. It's called PC culture, Anti vaxxer's and flat earth theorists. We're well on our way . Parent's these days care more that their child has "support" and "loving environments" than to tell them that they did something wrong.
@@bobbyde_pressed4023 Sorry to tell you this but a loving caring environment can also tell a child that they are wrong. A truly educational environment would help a child understand they are wrong while still being caring. Making a child right without making them feel happy hurts the child just as much as an environment which is too Caring.
I wouldn't matter. They would just say they don't interpret, or see it that way. They will always frame everything in a way where they win and she loses. Once you start this game, and you can make things mean what you want, then communication breaks down, and there's no more agreement on what anything means, so you have chaos. Everything becomes "democratic" in the worst possible way. You start voting on what words mean, but you can vote again tomorrow after you made a promise today, so you don't have to keep it. Nothing means anything anymore, and it begins to boil down to brute strength: whoever has the most physical clout wins every debate.
under the 2 + 2 = 22 standard, 2000 + 2000 would be be twenty million two thousand. If we need to endure insanity we can't leave money on the table. I identify this comment as profound and hilarious.
You are comparing apples with oranges in many cases. If you are talking about maths, yes, there are some immutable laws. However, if you are talking about all these so-called "experts" predicting economic meltdown in the event of a vote for Brexit back in 2016 who were making these wild predictions based on possible business and psychological responses to the different legislative environment as if they were immutable laws, well come on, surely you must understand why we are mistrusting the "expert class"? If one is an "expert", one should be careful to clarify the limits of what one is able to accurately predict with substantially more accuracy than a layman, even with expertise in the subject. If you can't predict outcomes any more accurately than a layman, don't go round saying, "I'm an expert, dontchya know?!" to back up predictions that are just wild speculation.
Media has made us believe we are more stupid than we really are, demand for deeper and meaningful content is evident through the rise of podcasts and streaming services
Sadly this is somehow so realistic. Nowadays idiotic parents just defend their kids even when they are wrong, attacking and blaming teachers for everything and like that they just create generations of spoiled brats without rules, values and morals... And ofc it shows amazingly well how the general society and the media just catch any stupid chance to shout out unfounded and useless accusations that don't actually exist 😅 Amazing work! Loved the end 😂
@@matthieubrilman9407 While writing, yes. Not while speaking though. While speaking she is basically doing it like this "2 thousand" + "2 thousand" = "22 thousand", as in if these were apples, then "2 apples" plus "2 apples" would be "22 apples".
@@RatheeshPisharody I know that, but if someone doesn't understand the decimal numeral system, there's no reason to assume that this person understands factorisation [i.e. a.k+b.k=(a+b).k].
Honestly, this is a work of art. Not just the actual piece, but also the meta-level that it essentially parodies the reactions people have to the video and showcases confirmation bias in it's most brutal form. That is, assuming you actually intended that effect when you made this six years ago XD
I honestly didn't know what kind of reaction it would get six years ago. I didn't even know if anyone would watch it. But it's been fun to see how the Comments Section mirrors exactly what the film is satirizing.
Nope The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was published in 2006 so the push for teaching creationism (intelligent design) has been around for quite while.
if infinite then minus infinite as well: 1/1 = 1, 1/0.1 = 10, 1/0.0001 = 1000 and this goes to infinite but, 1/-1 = -1, 1/-0.1 = -10, 1/-0.0001 = -1000, so this goes minus infinite, and x/0 cannot be both infinite and minus infinite, thats why it is undifined
As a teacher this is genuinely hard to watch, so many helicopter parents get defensive over their children and you become the bad guy for doing your job...
This is because knowledge is no longer valued among Western Society - only "diplomas". You teach kids not to make them wiser, but to make them "adjusted" and "matching" regulations and certifications.
``` As modern times promote hasty eating to a large extent, it is not surprising to learn that a great astronomer said: “Two things are infinite, as far as we know - the universe and human stupidity.” Today we know that this statement is not quite correct. Einstein has proved that the universe is limited. ``` This excerpt was taken from Ego, Hunger, and Aggression written by Gestalt psychologist Frederick S. Perls and Laura Perls and republished in 1947. Although acclaimed, Einstein isn't proven to have stated that quote.
This is invaluable. They've hit the nail on the head. When one of two numbers is of string type, "2" + 2 turns into "22" due to string concatenation, which is quite amusing 😆. On the other hand, this illustrates the significant impact media can have, potentially wreaking havoc on our lives. It shows that the validity or rationality of the content doesn't always matter
I think the end especially is extremely interesting, bc it’s shows us that a) the system itself collapses because of its rules, but b) you can just then escape your situation when you play within the rules and accept them! And that second point is sad somehow.
This happened to me. Standing in a 7th grade classroom cutting out construction paper letters for a bulletin board, I told student a student that I was ready to call his parents because he constantly interrupted me. I had scissors in my hand when I said this. The next morning, the principal came to my room and asked if I threatened a student with scissors. My shock was immense. I couldn't even remember cutting out the letters because I was so shocked. That afternoon the student's father and mother were ushered into my room by the assistant principal who sat there for a full 2 hours while the man threatened my job, called me vulgar names, I can't even remember. Over and over he screamed at me. I was visibly pregnant. Today, I would stand up, tell the principal to stop it, and if it didn't, I'd quit. It was horrible. I sobbed for hours. My husband made me go back to school the next day telling me if I didn't, he would win. I stayed for the insurance. After my child was born and maternity leave was up, I called them up and quit. Never went back into a classroom. And just so you know, on my evaluation for that year, the assistant principal said I was exemplary and hoped that I would never stop teaching.
Sorry you had such a horrible experience. I was lucky to have far more positive experiences than negative ones in my teaching career, but still happy that I retired early. It's a shame that a situation with one student can discourage a competent teacher from continuing; so many other students lose out when this happens.
That 1st grade kid got the "wrong" answer because the kid learned how to write code before knowing how basic math works, and he thought he was being tested on JavaScript string concatenation!
She had no info that the school accepted that 1000 x 1000 = 1000,1000 or 10,001,000. She only had info that the school accepted that 2 x 2 = 22. So 2000+2000 = 1000(2+2) = 1000(22)= 22,000 given what she knew about what the school accepted.
So much this. It was jarring when she said 22,000 - I was expecting 20m. She could have turned to a blackboard and written it out to be clear. Disappointing finish.
This was basically my teaching career. I guess (so far) there's 39,666 other teachers who've made this same comment. I think we're all used to adults, and even other teachers saying, "I don't like math." I once asked 8th graders to line up and answer a multiplication question to go to lunch. When I got to 9 x 6 they were completely flummoxed. An assistant principal demanded to know why I was 'trying,' to teach math in a science class. Of course I explained it using state standards. I also pointed out that single digit multiplication is a 3rd grade standard.
Some years ago I would find this movie funny - but now its rather terrifying, as the world is becoming to look exactly like that. The ending - awesome :D
i think it shows that since the system is already up and running we should learn to play by its rules to get at least some better closure. Don't you think?
“There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” -- Isaac Asimov
Even the teacher gets the alternative math wrong. If 2 + 2 = 22 by putting the numbers next to each other, than 2000 + 2000 = 20,002,000. She could have gotten a lot more money if she was any good at math!
@@nanpotrer4709 see? That's the problem with YOU PEOPLE. Always insisting that YOUR answer is the right answer. You are completely ignoring the fact that 20,002,000 makes me FEEL better. Sheesh. Your services here as commenter will no longer be required!
As a maths teacher, I enjoy watching this again and again. What rings true for me here, is the attitude of the parents. In the old days, parents respected the teachers. These days, they try to cause as much trouble for an 'errant'(?) teacher as they can... and they believe every little porkie pie their little 'Danny', 'Franny' , 'Bonnie' and 'Donny' make. Male or female, both parents are right bitches here.... and the princiapal is an eggwump!
Cause man and woman is different and very easy to differentiate 😅
Not to be picky - but her math, based on the student's answer, is also wrong, I think. If 2 + 2 = 22 then 2000 + 2000 = 20002000, which is more than $20M. She shortchanged herself.
it's so sad because teachers by themselves are usually very capable and kind-hearted people who are willing to teach children in need, but there are almost always people of higher authority and less intelligence limiting and pressuring them. i feel very sorry for people who go through things like this.
IT'S EXCELLENT. Glazed from beginning to end. The teacher/actress is 5 stars. The script is so true. A clear depiction of the days of today and other past situations... (my heart went out to her: the only reasonable person in all that...). Highly recommended and deserves prizes!
Und genau dieses Denken bringt einen in jeder Diskussion zur Verzweiflung. Die absolute Unfähigkeit Kritik vom Selbstwertgefühl trennen zu können. Kritik ist kein Angriff. Viele Menschen dichten lieber die Welt um. Und/oder sehen sich lieber als ewiges Opfer, als sich in einer erwachsenen Weise mit Dingen auseinander zu setzen. Sehr schön in diesem Film dargestellt war auch die symbiotische Verbindung der Eltern mit ihrem Kind. Die Mechanismen innerhalb der Strukturen, in Verbindung mit den Medien, wurden hier erschreckend real dargestellt.
It just frustrates me. Like seriously why are they even arguing over imaginary numbers and instead focusing on real things. Numbers wrriten on paper don't mean anything, which is why I don't like the movie. If it was more of a stem focused thing I think it woild turn out well. But to just see the movie go in a downhill spiral over something that is known to everyone in this world is kind of ridicoulous. Yes I get america is moving towards shit like this but come on it shouldnt have been exaggerated to this point.
I’m a first grade teacher just like this teacher and I can say without exaggeration that these parents DO exist. Principals DO talk to you like this. You do your job correctly fearing the fact that one offended kid or parent can send you packing is REAL.
Yes, as a former teacher I can attest to this. Of course this is an over-exaggeration, made to be humorous, so it is over the top. But it does, sadly, have some basis in reality. And it is a liberal problem; I have simply never had conservative parents storm in and aggressively demand to know why their student's grades are low.
Can you please tell us more? I'm intrigued about this film and the meaning behind it. It is basically saying that people are more worried about being politically correct than sticking to real facts? I'm confused to be honest!
@@themissgpg Oh no, I mean that I have had parents/admin/other teachers argue about some very basic stuff. My first year at this one school, I had a fellow teacher (who teaches third grade including math) argue that we shouldn't have too much change to start our fund raiser because we wouldn't make as much profit when we had to pay it back. I tried to explain that that is not how change works and we needed more or we would run out. She got mad and pulled the but that's what we always do card. I had to bite my tongue really hard when another teacher pointed out that they ran out of change the previous year.
If only Mrs. Wells had made one strong recommendation on Tuesday, the whole problem would have been solved by Wednesday: HOME SCOOL Danny! Nothing scares a parent more than having to raise their own precious little ankle-biters! 😂😂😂
It's my biggest pet peeve to see people start talking about opinions on something that's an academic fact. I was very uncomfortable watching this.. until that ending.
Me, too. It's obviously a well-made, funny and grotesque short movie, with a very clever ending, but it made me also feel unconfortable, because I feel that nowadays the world is going this wrong and weird way, and it' s scary.
if you add $2,000+$2,000 the way Danny was adding it, it equals $20,002,000 when you 'put the numbers next to each other', the teacher was missing out on some BIG MONEY!!!
