My coaches always yelled at me for "cheating" when I put my hand below my back doing crunches! It just naturally feels so much better to me.
@IzunaDestruction
@IzunaDestruction 3 года назад
Hands below the lower back helps to keep good posture and changes nothing about the intensity of the exercise. No cheating. Hands below the glutes/hamstrings help you to pull yourself up with your arms instead of your abs. That's cheating.

Same here and I think it caused problems for me in the long run that coulda been being resolved by not digging my back into the ground. Swear it caused me to start overcompensating to just get done with the exercises instead of doing them correctly and having them be effective

Grateful I ran into Bob and Brad’s videos. At 26, the amount of young RU-vid Fitness “Gurus” that promote so many compromising exercises and stretches is astounding. They have free reign to lead millions to mediocre workouts that focus more on aesthetics than sustainable healthy movement. Just recently I started doing a workout with one RU-vidr who uses workout routines that put the lower back/disks at risk and something was not right. She had millions of subscribers. When I researched for good stretches I learned through their videos why her workout routine was causing me pain. Finally learned my lesson. And that is to avoid taking exercise advice from inexperienced internet Gurus unless they have EXTENSIVE years and the credentials to teach. Too many put “fitness” before health. Thank you for leading others to focus on health and for the experience you both share! You guys are funny and carry great energy.

13:28 Instead of lateral flexion with weights would a farmer's carry/walk with weight on one side work instead? As a farmer's walk is reccomended by a lot of other professionals, including other PT's. Is it the flexion that causes the issues or just the imbalance of weight distribution? As personally I find planks, including a side plank, too easy and would need variations, resistance or stability altering equipment.

Your bent-over row form is totally different from what we're taught in BodyPump. Our knees are bent, back straight, shoulders engaged and a weighted bar is kept very close to the body -- it slides up and down the thighs. Even with a shoulder injury, I still do bent-over rows.

My ulnar nerve also clicks. I was told to do pulling exercises instead of pushing, so like I hang from a bar or straps with my feet down (similar angles to the push up but upside down). I also was told to do lighter weights, so I do push ups against a wall or table and mine won't click. Let me know if you need more clarification, I can't remember the name of the pulling exercise.

Don't pull up as far! I do those upright rows for my shoulders but could never quite get how it was better to go up so high. I couldn't feel any kind of muscle play that felt like strengthening to me. So from here on in, I will no longer pull up higher than chest level. It's wonderful to be, kind of like, given permission to do these exercises in a way that feels good and makes better sense.

@freshrockpapa-e7799
@freshrockpapa-e7799 4 года назад
I don't get how doing rows with a barbell against gravity is wrong but doing it with resistance bands attached to the wall is fine for some reason. The posture and the forces and their directions are exactly the same, it's exactly the same exercise, there is the same tension going through your lower back. If you want less tension in the lower back, what you have to do is brace your chest against a support, not rotate the exercise by 90º and keep all the mechanics exactly the same.

I have a question. There was some article I read on exercises you should avoid and it included partial situps/crunches, the reason they gave being that they put a lot of stress on the neck and it targeted very few abdominal muscles. Everytime I do them I do feel work in my lower abdomen but I feel way more work and I do... sory my English fails me, the exercise where you lay down face up and lift your legs straight until they for ma 90 degree angle with the floors. And it doesnt hurt my neck. Whereas when I do crunches my neck feels a lot of pressure.

Are the windshield with the legs extended good for your back even if you have your legs against the wall?

The exercises & stretches taught in elementary school:🐑🐑🐑 EVERY single one is on the “Do NOT Do” list. Some other bass ackward things we were miseducated and bout were in the ineffective D.A.R.E Program & the ridiculous After School Specials. Not to mention the grossly flawed food pyramid & earthquake safety protocols. (I’m in California & we had ‘duck and cover’ drills at least once a year until 8th grade). I was constantly complaining about back pain because of the weight of the backpack because we (didn’t have lockers) were required to bring our books to class every day.

I began watching about a year ago and have been applying some of these techniques. Since then I have been able to better manage my back pain. I’m a climber so I have no choice, also any advice for people who have had a partial radial meniscectomy, acl and mcl injuries?

Such sensible advice...."remove all cupboards from your house" (Bob) as opposed to just starting with your body away from the cupboards lol
