Alternator Crowbar Bench Test 

This unit is designed to detect when an alternator becomes off-load AKA a load-dump scenareo. Upon detection, a bank of 8 MOSFETs are switched on to short circuit the alternator phases, and prevent destruction of the alternator's rectifier diodes. The circuit latches on, and prevents the alternator from generating until the latch is manually reset. The circuit has an extremely fast response time, and is capable of switching in excess of 170A per phase. (momentarily)
After activating, the energy will be dissipated in the alternator windings, the field will collapse, and the alternator will remain safely shut down. The loss of field energisation will cause the alternator warning lamp to illuminate on the dashboard.
