Sir I just want to say thank you for this video. Because not many people make videos on how to change things in older cars.....SO THANK YOU....I am watching this video for the second time because I'm going to attempt to take my alternator off....yes you heard that right a single mom gotta do what she gotta do so you make it seem look so easy and fast....I'm sure this may have took more then this video to get it off....only thing I'm more concerned of is the belt not afraid to take anything off but mor of not messing up the belt......again thank you because the first time it was taken off through the bottom this way looks alot easier....
Thank you! Although many of the camera angles were blocked, you described it well enough that I was able to replace the alternator on my daughters 05 Kia Spectra.
Great video. If you don't mind doing an oil change, you can also avoid taking off the fan by removing the oil filter and then removing old alternator through the bottom and placing the new one back up through the bottom. You can still do all the wrenching from up top once you get the bottom of the new one placed in the slot, which the bolt trick you showed us helps a lot.
@@drhoamaru4752 its because of the alternator the brakes have an electrical assist if its under minimum charge then the brakes don't work the same its a common complaint
Remove the fan first two 10mm bolts and the alternator comes out with alot of finesse don't mess the cooling fins on the radiator too much it comes out easy but barely lol take ur time
Thank you so much for showing a way to test if it’s the alternator. The car I’m trying to fix up, is stalling and I’m going down the list of easy things to look out for and have a rough estimate of what I’m gonna have to pay. By the way your accent is so badass!
Thanks great video! Helped me swap my alternator out in a pinch in less than 2 hours. I would like to add you can take the coolant reservoir off by simply sliding it straight up then you can twist it sideways and get it out of your way for additional clearance to work on alternator.
Great Video, very clear and simple to follow. I have a 2006 Hyundia Elantra GL, and the position of the alterator is crazy, water, snow and road dust ruines the Alt , Im sure that they did it so we have to always buy a new part. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks for the help. I have an 09 kia Spectra. I had to take the tire off and remove a small plastic panel to pull out the last bolt. It was easier for me to put the bolt in after replacing the alternator because it wouldn't angle right, and with the plastic panel gone, it was super easy to put back. Hope this helps anyone else.
Thank you for this video, It really helps a lot. I had a valve cover casket go bad and it ultimately shorted the alternator on my spectra. Thank you for going step by step. I do recommend on any of your future videos. You give a slightly better angle on the bolt your working on if you can.
First of all I'm no mechanic but obviously clearly this guy has never done it before which is fine however he didn't need to lie in the video he should have said the power steering needed to come off first off to get to that boat that he lasted however he still never showed us how we got to the boat what size was the bolt hindy said that you need to remove it in the washers need to go back on he didn't show us in what order or how we got to it or how goes back on good job I should have learned a lot
Thank you, doing the job now, looking online also at the factory manual illustration of the unit is all I need for the job (to get the full orientation, the old-fashioned manual illustrations still help). Saves 99 dollars in not buying the proper manual (the cheap manuals on sale in Autozone are not sufficiently detailed).
Take the bolts out and drop it thru the bottom, and send the replacement back up thru while you are down there, put the bolts back on and the belt, then tighten then replace the wire and battery cable. 40-45 minutes tops.
I post up YT videos on my channel too but I don't really mess with Kia like that but my boy has an 06 Kia Spectra and I wanted to see where the alternator was located before I went to his house to help him. Keep the good videos coming.
The alternator is just a drop in. With the screw dont try to take out screw first. Just unscrew. A lil bit then pul alternator. Out from engine bracket
How did you open the power side from the alternator. Did you have to push down on something? I have a picture but for some reason I feel sus about just pulling on it. Is that what I need to do?
There's no way he took that last bolt on the bottom out from the top . He had to take off the tire or go from underneath. You just can't get your hand in there.
Appreciate the video, but imo a much safer and better way go test alternstor is the hook up multi meter fo battery. Note the voltage ( dc ) and then start the car.. if alternators goid the voltage should rise above the battery resting voltage after 30 seconds or so
Removing your battery cable to check the functionality of an alternator is a very bad idea on fuel injection cars(modern cars)!!!!!!! You run a risk of electrically frying many components in your car including the car's computer. Doing this can cause multiple issues. Also, the reason for an alternator not charging could be that the alternator isn't being feed a signal to charge (modern cars). Im not going to dislike this video, but beware. Google this information if you like. Peace.
@@ttautogarages congratulations to you on being lucky. I’m a ASE certified Master technician. Anytime you are removing a heavy gauge wire as such as a battery cable, you may get a voltage spike. That spike can fry (burn) other components. ALSO, if the alternator was good before the removal, you can cause the alternator to go bad by frying its regulator. If pulling the battery cable was the way to safely check an alternator, places like Autozone would be doing it… the alternator could be charging with bad diodes as well. This is not the proper way to test an alternator safely or correctly. Please research all of this before someone’s computer is fried. Ever thought that the large gauge positive wire to the alternator could be lose or burn or internally corroded… creating a resistance or an issue with the small wire connector to the alternator… google “disconnecting battery to check alternator” see what can happen, especially if the alternator is good before the battery’s wire removal.
@@ttautogarages nvm I got it out, I jacked the car up and did it from the bottom... where’d did u but your replacement alternator I’m just curious on what kinda alternator I put in there
