Really liked how Trevor and Sypha both played a satisfying role in this battle. Sypha cleverly using her magic in mid and long range combat while not appearing helpless when she is forced to fight up close, she remained calm and used wit to defeat a Vampire that excelled in close range combat. Trevor being clever when his enemies keep evading the morning star and keeping his cool when fighting enemies stronger than him. This is how you properly portray hunters and magicians.

As she rightfully should get all the kills lol, she was a beast in the original game, and pretty much the only character who could defeat the grim reaper without taking a single hit. Although she didn’t straight up use lightning against the vampires, the lightning around her as she warped Drac’s castle was a very nice nod to castlevania 3

dannybob42 Well, I think that... Trevor had the most visual impacting and dramatic kills (the mere concepto of the Morning Star (the last form of the Vampire Killer) causing everything it touches that is related to darkness to explode is just wonderful). Sypha as you said has the most creative kills. And Alucard the most fastest ones.

You know one of the things I love about this fight? Through pure action, it demonstrates the difference in philosophies between Dracula's vampires and the heroes. The vampires more or less fight as a mob of individuals, with each one seeking to get the killing blow on one of the heroes without really fighting in a coordinated manner. Each seeks individual glory over overall victory. The heroes meanwhile fight like a well oiled machine, each looking after the back of the others and creating openings for their teammates to exploit. And because they fight as a team they manage to make short work of all these vampires despite initially being outnumbered. On top of that, the vampires are arrogant because they assume that Alucard is biggest threat and therefore the only threat they really need to take seriously. You'll notice that of the five generals in the room, three focus on Alucard while only one apiece go to deal with Sypha and Trevor. All the vampires presumed that one vampire general was more than enough to deal with a measly mortal while the rest dealt with the real threat. And yet both Sypha and Trevor managed to completely annihilate their opponents without even taking a scratch, which allows them to help Alucard. Hell, the Japanese vampire general didn't even bother to pay attention to her flank because she thought Alucard was the only significant opponent left. And that got her insta killed by Sypha just moments later. And keep in mind this was done without a ten minute friendship speech with the heroes lecturing the bad guys on why good will succeed. Here the whole concept of "humanity is strong because we fight together" is not said, it is simply shown through brutal and unrelenting action. And THAT is great visual story telling!

@Hfar Not only that, but each of our three heroes was MVP in their own way: - Alucard slaughtered the mooks: Most Overall Kills - Sypha slaughtered three of the five Vampire Generals: Most Champion Kills - Trevor created the most openings for his allies to take advantage of: Most Assists It doesn't just show their teamwork, and it doesn't just show their growth as characters. It shows their immense skill, strength, cleverness, and power. Even the boozed-up barroom brawler Belmont - the man who went for a nut-shot against Alucard because he was losing badly, and who is slightly more comic relief than badass - gets a chance to shine like a goddamn sun. I think my favorite part was when he _lops a vampire's head off with the Morning Star whip._
@Bluecho4
@Bluecho4 3 года назад
Note also that the low level minions didn't engage much at all (a few did only because Alucard came to them). Some of it was just them not wanting to get in the way of the generals, who might not care who they hit. And partly because, as Trevor said immediately before the fight broke out, he _terrifies_ them. While the generals are all so confident (or arrogant) that they don't fear the Belmont reputation, lesser vampires definitely do. They've all heard the stories. While they're not so cowardly as to run away, they're not so bold as to engage unless they have to. It's telling that as soon as the three walked in, all vampires present put their prior animosity on hold to fight _them._ To do otherwise would be suicide, and they knew it.

The anime really shows why the whip is the perfect weapon to kill vampires. Vampires have enhanced senses and they dodge everything through focusing on their sight. When the whip moves in all crazy directions the vampire attempts to look at every possible area until it's too late and they are trapped or nailed
@sylph4252

It also gives you a reach advantage, lifesaving when the opponent can break all of your bones with a single hit
@theendersmirk5851
@theendersmirk5851 Год назад
Yup. Only real issue is you need it to be magic so the whole length of it is a good offending plane, otherwise you'd get very little actual benefit due to how hard whipfighting using real world methods can be. Fortunately for the Belmonts, every whip they ever use is magic, so they very much have that advantage, so the things absolutely murder, especially against Vamps.
@AndrewJ9673
@AndrewJ9673 Год назад
That and how easily manipulated it is. The whip scenes with Trevor really show how much of a warrior he is even with just a decade or so of training. He not only can dodge and attack against superior enemies like Dracula or his generals, but he has a mastery of the whip and how to manipulate it. It happens multiple times in the show where an enemy dodges it only for Trevor to slide it into them using his feet or his entire body. You can see this when Alucard gets schwacked into a pillar in Season 1 and also in this scene

Not really. A whip is a hard weapon to use and master. Vampires are also faster and stronger, and therefore you are screwed in melee since a whip can't do shit at zero range. I'd choose any weapon but a whip against vampires

Love how the vampire keeps thinking by smashing her Ice spikes, he no longer needs to worry about them, or that he only needs to dodge once, then ignore it, like he isn't running along an ice blade that she still has complete control of 😂 I feel like the only reason she waited so long to slice him in half, is she couldn't believe he was so stupid. Like she was waiting for his next move before realising this WAS his move. To run along the Razor sharp edge of her ice blade, and try n stab her. You can really tell those vampires has spent their extra long lives just coasting through and never having to fight anyone stronger than a town guard. Especially never a magician.

She likely waited for him to reach the closer part of the thin ice wall, since that would be the first half of it to raise. I also like to imagine she waited for him to jump or be mid-step, where pushing off the wall to avoid it wouldn't be possible since their feet weren't on a surface to push off. Her use of ice is perhaps the best example of creative use of elemental magic. Instead of focusing on freezing anything she uses it as a physical weapon, one that can take any form she needs, as well as a way to maneuver around opponents. Her fire magic is very destructive as well, but she also uses it to drive away enemies and keep them back with her use of firewalls, letting her and her Allie’s set up for the attacks. A surprisingly effective defensive tool.

They're clever and creative as shit with their fighting styles and no one constantly gets bodied or needs help. They a good team and I hope in season 3 and the next seasons to come, they stay a team. Their teamwork is on fuckin point too, and there's no constant talking in fight scenes, they're just that synchronized. One thing I noticed about this show too is I like how they don't constantly make the characters talk in every scene, most shows make characters talk any possible moment they can but in this they don't talk 100% of the time. Its the little details in this fight that make it one of the best...From Sypha planting an ice shard in the ground before she tries to impale that vampire with it (you can just barely catch her doing it), while also throwing him off by sending one right at him...All in an effort to make sure she keeps distance with him (remember in S3 when Alucard was telling the twins that keeping distance with a vampire is important?); To Trevor masturfully using a whip weapon to the point where its just downright distracting to a vampire, and when he chains up the first one, you can even see the guy do a hoppity hop like you would in real life, trying to stay away from the tip of the morningstar.... And Alucard...Always using speed and transformations to throw his opponents off balance, and using his sword like a familiar...This fight and show is just FANTASTIC. And they did mystic/mage classes damn right with Sypha. She was an offensive/defensive beast in this fight, with Trevor basically being the brute and Alucard bringing in speed and tricks....Fuck, this show based on a game, is top tier fantasy!

Alucard really is powerful. Dracula is insanely powerful and the 3 of them could barely beat him in his weak state, and the only real reason they won was becasue Dracula broke down. But that still doesn’t shy away from the sheer power Alucard wields, he’s Dracula’s son for crying out loud. He was turned on a full moon, he wields his mother’s family’s sword and shield, and he beats all of Dracula’s generals and soldiers which are some of the strongest vampires in the world. Dude is a super badass
@megasuperiordude
@megasuperiordude 2 года назад
It just shows how insanely powerful Dracula was by comparison. Alucard can body the generals in a 1 vs 1 (barring "You can't hurt me without a direct counter" bs like the mist lady) and dracula bodies him, which means the generals were dogshit on dracula's boot if they tried to fight him, and that was just in his weakened state.

Castlevania Dracula doesn't consume blood to get stronger. So he wasn't weakened, if anything the war should have made him stronger.
@Mediados
@Mediados 2 года назад
They couldn't defeat him. Dracula could have killed them all, but he accepted death at the hands of his son. That's what's so great about Castlevania, our heroes are not really overpowered, technically they would have lost.

Overall, my favorite part was probably Trevor lopping off a vampire's head with the Morning Star whip. When your enemy can sever a head with a _blunt object,_ you know you're in for a Bad Time. Regarding Sypha's parts, I actually enjoyed her cutting her first general in half with an ice sheet slightly more than freeze-shattering the mist general, but that's me :P
@connman8d617
@connman8d617 2 года назад
It's not enough to have overpowered heroes kicking ass. What sets Castlevania apart is that the enemies are badass too. Take that dude Sypha fights. He is dodging and breaking her ice attacks so she tries to pull a fast one and shoot one up from the floor. You think it's going to catch him off guard but it doesn't. He dodges almost effortlessly. But then she improvises by forming a sheet of ice and you think "now she has him." But no. Once again her foe foils her by backflipping away before jumping onto and tightrope walking on her attack. It is only then that her third improvisation finally scores the kill. By then it feels earned. The enemies are not just endless fodder; each of them feels like a real threat.

The fact that Alucard can just use his sword _as_ a Sword Familiar is amazing. I wonder if it applies to other swords too. Crissaegrim Familiar = Elfen Lied. Also I adore Trevor’s rope dart/meteor hammer tech. I’ve been studying the weapon irl and it’s so hype! They captured the fluidity so well! And of course Sypha killed it, as everyone’s said xD

The first half of this battle does an amazing job of bringing these characters, these motifs, we know and love into living, breathing motion. The second half of this battle makes it unmistakably clear that this iteration of the characters would show us marvels we could never have anticipated. In sum, it delights in stages - first the favorites, then the fireworks.

*anyone* making a show or movie featuring magic casting needs to take some notes from Sypha here. Not only is the gruesome detail of the sheer power of her magics applied against *any* target on full display, but the techniques she employs using it both with the magic itself and the movements is cool as hell to watch. From the concentrated geometric hand gestures and movements she made when making the wall of fire, to the brutal and punctuated motions when she obliterated the mist lady and that last vampire here.
