Thanks Connie! I agree, the glitter made it pop! Would have been a bit dull without it I think 😀

Awesome bowl Zac. Great recovery from the rotation issue.

Thanks MIke!! I was so bummed that the motor came off, reinforced my setup a bit now. I would like to make a more sturdy mount one of these days so that can't happen unless the power goes out or something 😀

That turned out great brother. Thanks for sharing the mishap. If I had tried to fix it I would have done more damage then good.

Thanks Phillip! I was really keeping my fingers crossed that I didn't gouge out too much when I was fixing those sags LOL

absolutely stunning bowl! also really enjoyed seeing the process. someday I need to see if I can modify that finishing process to work with cubes...I'd love to reduce all that sanding. 😀
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
Thanks brother!! Yeah, I hear ya on the sanding thing. It's really nice to be able to just brush on some resin and pretty much be done with minimal flaws. Only thing I can think of is that you could maybe dip them in resin and let it drip off the corner somehow. Not sure how you'd hold it up, but it might be a start of an idea 🤔

The video on attaching a rotisserie motor to the lathe was a true game changer for us. Thank you so much for making the video. Got a couple of questions, do you prefer UV or Epoxy for clear coating? How do you ensure there is no dust in the finish?
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
I'm so glad it has helped out Jen! I think it just depends on what the project is which I prefer. In general, I think the epoxy goes on a little better the first time than UV finish does, but it takes quite a bit longer to fully set up. For larger projects, definitely epoxy. For medium, UV finish works fairly well. For small projects like pens or stoppers, CA finish is the way I go. I'd just try them all out and see which one works the best for you. I cover the piece with a big clear plastic storage tub to keep dust off while it's curing. I showed pulling it away after I put the first coat of finish on the inside of the bowl this video

I like the bowl a little of Imperfections makes it look home made but being a Perfectionist it is had to leave it
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
I totally agree! I border on the edge of insanity when things don't turn out perfect sometimes LOL Truth is, it's really hard to get things absolutely perfect, so I try to weigh the cost/benefit of spending more time striving for perfection

Is it possible to just use the alumilite slow for the finishing part?
@ZacHiggins
@ZacHiggins 2 года назад
You maybe could, but it sets up so fast that you're likely to get bubbles in it. Plus, it's so thin that it has a higher chance of dripping
