Ingots: I would have put a pair of crossed straps on both of the "fronts" as you weren't against the headboard. The back would have been OK, If you had to break hard of worse, as you have it the ingots would be in your cab!!!

Hi Luke . Back in the old days we used ropes to tie down loads . On the back end and front end we did an X and a band across the back and front . But in those days we also had tarps on first . Take a look at old trucking videos of the 50’s. & 60 ‘s .all the best from Trucker AL retired Canada 🇨🇦🚛
@michaelwright8787

Personally I'd have cross strapped each stack at both ends, along with your double over the tops. I can see why they don't 'cage' the Ingots due too £4£ onto trailer, but it seems stupid to me their not caged. Should have lowered the stack heights and spread it across the bed. Nice vlog either way, but man your looking knackered Luke, get back on tippers an into ya own bed at night 😁
@Eckological
@Eckological 3 года назад
I know nothing but I was thinking about an emergency braking situation and where all those ingots would go! Cross strapping each end of each stack definitely sounds like the best bet. Another good video Luke, keep it up!
@davidtanslow3584
@davidtanslow3584 3 года назад
Correct, you should always cross strap both ends and I would've asked for single stacks using all the bed from the headboard, with a six wheel unit it'd still be legal. Then any extra could've been stacked on top just just forward of the trailer running gear. But it don't matter that much. Swings and roundabouts as we say.
@johnpittock9687
@johnpittock9687 3 года назад
Morning Luke, personally I would have used a couple of cargo nets over those ingots and parcelled the ends of both stacks over ,,the nets but make sure the nets are hand tight then strap as I've suggested , unfortunately I'm old enough to remember how to rope and sheet, hope that helps good luck and stay safe
@johnmarr399

Hi Luke, I'm a truck driver in New zealand & our rules state that if the load isnt touching the headboard you must have twice the weight of the load in restraints ie 27ton load needs 54 ton of restraints or 22 × 2500kg straps, I personally would of cross strapped the front and rear of each group to stop them moving forward or backwards, but in saying that I cart on very rough hill roads, I would be interested to know the rules on retraining cargo are in the uk

I know exactly where you are on about I live local to Aylesbury more precisely in Bicester and I know the bridge you are on about on the a41 it's the first bridge on the a41 if you are going from Bicester towards Aylesbury happens all the time with wagons getting stuck under it funny that the truck that got stuck under it coincidentally has a fitting slogan on the side I went past that yard today and see one of the Harry's trucks in there

I can see how well you strapped it but there should never be any gaps in the load. ie between the front & in the middle. If you hit something or braked hard the whole load would shift forward, the spansets would snap & worst case scenario the load could bust into your cab. If i was there i'd want the first 2 on the headboard then singles/doubles to the back of the trailer with NO gaps. I'm a grumpy old driver but if CPC etc. tells you this is how it should be done ignore them. I'd refuse that load or any load with gaps in it regardless of who told me otherwise.

Instead of pretty much saying the same as the person before you. Just hit the thumbs up people . His straps were fine. I've hauled magnesium ingots a lot farther & faster plus over mountain passes with just wedged 2x4 on the front & back of load & they didn't move a inch in the box. This stuff is heavy & it's short haul on slow flat roads in the UK. You can bury the load in straps if you want but he had enough.

Using Google Earth to show where you drop off, I've been watching "Justtruckin", who's a self-employed trucker in the US (North Carolina). His uses a drone to show the place he's dropping off, which includes him reversing to his designated door number, etc. The length of his truck (53ft) is pretty long :)
@Jimages_uk

As a retired truck driver, I enjoy watching your video's, unlike some drivers out there, you have a nice calm attitude, I got suckered in on a clickbait with this one saying a high value load though, $59k is peanuts, I would think most of my loads would have been worth that much. I think my highest value load outside of pharmaceuticals would have been a Gillette from Germany to Reading, nothing fancy, just razor blades, but when they cost £8 for a blister pack at the supermarket, it isn't hard to work out that the load's value was in the millions of pounds. I did load bullion once as well, from Spain when they changed their currency from the peseta to the Euro, a full load of coins from Spain back to Wales, 24 tonnes and enough value to have a police escort right through Spain. Once I got to France, I was left to my own devices, I can't say I was happy about that TBH.
@markrowland6835
@markrowland6835 3 года назад
Why don't you livestream when you are carrying a real high value load, let people know where you plan to park up and see your boss react to the news that you have been robbed while you are editing You Tube uploads instead of resting. So sad that people feel the need to share experiences in a job that will ruin their life if they stick at it for long enough. Concentrate on your job not making video content, as a distracted mind in a 44 ton truck can result in loss of life.

End poles have always been a bloody nuisance and the aluminium rivets that hold the curtains fail, but they're better than the effing tilts, trust me, I'm a lorry driver. I always used to indicate right when I needed to reverse off the road, not many idiots would overtake a vehicle showing a right turn indicator. Then when all the traffic has stopped I turn across the road and before I clear I put the hazards on and make sure that I block both lanes. Then I know I'm safe to reverse. Trust me, I'm a lorry driver. Should always stay in the truck while being tared in and out by the weighbridge. Yeah, that's not the way to secure the ends of the loads, should've used two straps crossed rear and front. Of course we always rope and sheeted such loads, much safer but not many drivers know how to use ropes and sheets nowadays. I used to have to unload myself at Toyota in Derby, told part of the job so I had to use one of their fork trucks. Never did find out who's insurance policy I was responsible to but decided the job was not for me in the end and as there's loads of other driving jobs around and I could easily take my pick with my training certification I wasn't too worried. Keep trucking

Hi Luke, you always need to be a little inventive on awkward loads not on the headboard, but personally, i would have done double diagonal strapping at the front of both parts and single straps over each row (including the last row). I have only found your channel recently ( in the last 2 weeks) and have binge watched pretty much all of your content. Great Video's, well delivered and explained. Some other vloggers do it their way, but you are up there at the top of the pile for me, plus i have also been enjoying 'Hayley' from her first vlog, i think she has done great and also has a great way of delivering her informative video's, in her 'newbie' style. Personally i am just waiting to get my updated C+E back from DVLA then hopefully getting back on the road after some years in other work, but Covid has put a stop to that for now. Great work, keep it up, stay safe. 😊😊👍👍

@blockytm190
@blockytm190 3 года назад
Yeah I'd of added the rear strap like as well, the strap over the top of the double stack wouldn't really be doing that much onto the single in terms of down force, so that extra strap will avoid the them sliding just fine. Personally I probably would of asked for the single stack to be in between two double stacks so they couldn't go anywhere, but maybe the driver hasn't much say on that or depending of the how helpful the forklift driver was!
@georgegoodman5363
@georgegoodman5363 3 года назад
I probably would have put a double strap on the back becuase surely it would shift a giant amount, plus the support of the double strap would keep the top layer from sliding as well as the bottom. Good vid, really like the google earth shots.

Each "row" weighed about 2.7 tonnes. each strap can hold 5 tonnes. the first row then could have 10 tonnes. it was sufficiently strapped at the front. My concern with the rear was that the single strap going over wasn't 100% over it so to be safe i added an extra.

"2 cross straps on the front of the ingots in case of an emergency brake. Not a criticism but on the slate drop you didn't have a high Viz on . Keep yourself safe when there's public access around you.
