Awesome experiment and presentations. Eagerly waiting for more MHD contents. What power source do you use for the induction heating and frequency? Also could you not use an induction coil with time varying current as an alternative to the rotating magnet?
It is a high frequency (up to 20 kHz) power source by German company Eldec. Model is MFG 20 with maxiumum power of 20 kW. Here 17 kHz frequency was applied to melt aluminum. In principal yes, you could use induction coil with time varying current. Though it should be different than coil melting the metal since a different frequency must be used and ideally different shape of inductor aswell.
Very cool. We've barely begun to explore so many cool opportunities in materials science and already we're being mandated off from moving atoms into just moving electrons (EVs and such). Here's hoping the mandates fail and we continue to hone the state of the art in moving atoms at high speed reliably
I have query that stirring is done in semi liquid phase to avoid density problem .now when pouring is done it is in liquid phase or semi solid liquid phase?
have you try to make carbon fiber matrix? instead use resin wich melt at 300ºC in the best scenario. use aluminium or magnesium to fuze the carbon fiber fabric. or will melt the fibers? i was thinking in impregnate fabric with powder layer by layer until we get 3mm or 5mm thicknes and after that melt it and press them toghether. Or use melt aluminium and impregnate the carbonfiber fabreic, i hope dont have to much surface tension between this 2 materials and can be fused like resin.
