Pete Townsend did almost all of the actual songwriting for The Who. He truly is masterful at it!

One of my favorite Who songs!! One slight correction, though - the drummer on this track is Kenney Jones. Keith Moon died in 1978, and this song came out in 1981.

One of the greatest bands of all time. In their prime they were one of the greatest to see live in concert.

First time I heard this song was on the opening day broadcast of MTV August 1st. 1981. This was the 4th video ever played.

Ah guys, if you are surprised by their theatrical side, that just means you haven't delved deep enough into them. 🙂They were well known for their live act. They were known for destroying their instruments at the end of live performances, Pete's windmill style of playing, Roger's swinging the mike around. And they had two of the earlier and best concept albums of all time - both of which were made into movies. Quadrophenia and Tommy. They were my first concert. Sadly, after Keith Moon died, but they were still awesome! Speaking of Tommy, you really might want to consider doing that on your movie reaction channel. Has guest performances and songs by Sir Elton John and Tina Turner that are legendary! Lead Singer Roger Daltrey plays Tommy in it

Kenney Jones, The Who's drummer after the death of Keith Moon, is on this track. Jones, formerly of The Small Faces and then The Faces, would last through two albums before The Who would break up in 1983. The band would sporadically get back together ( once for Live Aid in 1985 ) until 1996 when they reformed with a new drummer, Zak Starkey, who is the son of Ringo Starr.

This is EIGHTIES Who. Another one of those bands that was able to cross into the next decade and find their place and make big hits. I know you love HEART. Same situation.

"And I look pretty crappy sometimes" has always made me laugh, ever since this song came out back in 1981.

"Join Together " is another excellent song from these guys worth checking out. I have been informed they have already done "Join Together," so now I'm going with "5:15," or "The Seeker."

This was the 80’s Who. “Athena” and “Emmence Front” were another pair of great ones from the 80’s as well. Y’all still gotta hear the killer jams like “Bargain”, “I Can See For Miles”, “Magic Bus”, “The Seeker”, “I Can’t Explain”, “Substitute”, “Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere”, and of course “Pictures of Lilly”, “Love Reign O’er Me”, “Happy Jack” and “5:15”.

Jay, you need to check out John Entwistle's bass solo from Atlanta 2000. Monster bass player. Sadly, much of his bass work on WHO records was placed way too low in the mixes.

You should watch Tommy on your other channel and watch the band play their characters. Roger is Tommy. You also get Tina, Elton, Eric, Ann-Margaret, Jack Nicholson and more! The songs are great in the movie but better on the who's album. That also applies for Quadraphenia but you'd also enjoy that movie featuring a young Sting. Did you notice the drummer in this vid? Kenny Jones, used to be in The Faces with Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood, before Ronnie left to join the Stones. So The Faces had Rod, guitarist Ronnie that now has decades with the Stones, Kenny who replaced Keith Moon in the Who and an interesting character on base. Ronnie Lane played base and was part of the core of the faces with Rod and Ronnie. Long story of his life and then he was diagnosed with MS. He spent his latter decades in between where you and I live. Died in Trinidad, Colorado. Pete did an album with him to help with healthcare expenses. Best song on it is My Baby Gives it Away, you'll love it.

I did a concert with Roger Daltrey (the Rock Symphony) twenty years ago. Great singer but was a little standoff-ish until he realised I was part of the performing group.

Please check out some earlier Who - Townsend is credited with the 'first' rock opera Tommy and his songs always had a story telling side - I'm a Boy, Pictures of Lily are classics, and later I Can See For Miles is a must.

I still say; you need to listen to Elton John's version of Pinball Wizard, as well as Tina Turner's Gypsy Acid Queen, from the movie version of Tommy

The Who showed that even without Keith, they were not done for, as many critics claimed. By polishing up thier sound and letting keyboardist John Bundwick play more, they stayed successful in the 80's. Considering they were still reeling from Keith's passing and a 1979 incident at thier Cincinati show that left 14 dead ,(Not thier fault!) they deserved another commercial hit.

Yeah they had a few decent songs in the 80's like this and "Eminence Front" but they're a 60's and 70's band, this is a great song anyway.

old t rex! yes! try "get it on", "jeepster". marc bolan of t rex was one of the original glam rock, very talented, ill fated to die in a car wreck at age 30.

T Rex (or Tyronnosaurus Rex at the beginning) was one of the most important in influencial Glam Rock bands of all time. Marc Bolan, who also didn't live too long unfortunately was an icon in the 70s like Cobain in the 90s and as important to the scene as Bowie in the early 70s. If you haven't covered them yet, it's about time (e.g. Get It On) :) It's Kenny Jones from the Small/Faces on the drums as Keith Moon already has passed away.

There is grainy fottage of a who concert at the Cow Palace ,San Francisco. Keth Moon had passed out (for the second time?) and was taken away by ambulance. Peter Townsend asked the audience if there was a drum player in the audience. A kid ran up on stage and finished the set (Quadrophenia?).

This is not Keith Moon. Keith Moon is DEAD! This doesn't, even, count as "The Who." (Extremely CRAPPY, WEAK WHO, if it HAS-to-be-counted! --which, effectively: It DOESN'T!). Keith Moon died in 1978. The band (rightfully!) broke-up. Pete Townshend established himself as a solo artist (with songs that he SHOULD have saved for The Who, but didn't!😡😡🤦🙄). [Townshend had, already, released a solo album during The Who's initial lifespan. It wasn't that special and didn't sell very well, either. His 2nd album (which had way more promotion behind it and got WAY more notice & radio play -BECAUSE of the death of Keith Moon and the dissolution of The Who, effectively ...and the extra notice that ANY work from ANY member of The Who would have gotten at that time (because of: there being NO expectations of future Who material existed! So: ...the best one could hope for, as a fan was: great solo projects or new, excellent bands (possibly!🤷))! was: Empty Glass, and the songs on it and the response to it cemented Pete Townshend as a viable, recognizable solo artist, from that point forward.] ...AT some point, somoen recruited Kenny Jones (who is a fine, average, drummer), for The Faces (who had fallen apart-Personally, I HATE The Faces, because: it was THEY (directly!) who made an addict out of Jesse Ed Davis (when he went on tour with them). 😡😡😡...and ruined his career and life -as BRILLIANT as he was! Yes Duncan took the words right out of my mouth. Sadly Keith Moon was dead by the time this song came out. I was lucky enough to see the who in concert on the tour for this album in 1982 at the J.F.K. stadium in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when I was 17 years old. I am 59 now and still have some fine memories of this show. They were just too good to be true. Love your reaction videos guys, keep up the good work introducing old music to so many viewers of this generation. Yes, they indeed did play My Generation!

Keith Moon had already passed away when this was recorded. Kenney Jones was the drummer who replaced him. Jones was previously the Drummer for the Faces and Small Faces (Ron Wood of the Stones was guitarist and Rod Stewart was lead singer for the Faces).

Kenny Jones was a good replacement for Keith Moon. Still have that rocking Who sound and really plays well today. I've seen The Who several tines in concert and they always put on a great show.

Early 80s Who. "Athena" was a decent track from around then, too, if you haven't done it. Hey, I think you might also have missed a good early 80s Stones track: "She's So Cold." Definitely worth a spin if you're not familiar.
