I have recently "inherited" a 500e machine. I have watched Stephanie over and over and I must say as a beginner embroiderer she is the best on explaining. Thank You so much. Nina Richey
I agree, best tutorial on You Tube for this machine. Very detailed explanations on all the features. I've had my Janome 500e for about 2 years now and I learned a few things that I didn't know before. Thanks for posting about the many features of this machine. It's a great embroidery machine.
@@jytialata7084 There could be some thread in the way when you are threading the machine. Run a piece of paper or a think card through the area where your thread is when your threading your machine see if you got a nest in there. Also, I have found I have better luck using a separate thread stand than using the one on top of the machine. Lot less thread issues. I'll check back later and see if your still having a problem. Good luck!
I just got this machine last month (12/2023). I have a whole box of size A prewound bobbins that I use in my MC300e. Do u think I can use them in my new MC500e. Thank you for any help I can get. I hate winding bobbins..lol
Thank you! Hope it gets you more familiar with your embroidery machine! They are so fun and it amazing to see all the projects that can be made with that extra special touch!
Thank you so much for an awesome video. I just purchased the Janome 550E, and was having a difficult time trying to figure everything out. Now because of this video, I'll be able to use my machine with confidence.
This was one of the most informative videos I have found on the Janome 500 E. I just unboxed mine yesterday and was having a problem with the Lower presser foot warning not shutting off even when the presser foot was down. I finally got it to work. I didn't know much about the machine, but your video help with me knowing more about the machine. Thank you.
Awesome, thank you! This is such a great machine and has so many capabilities. Enjoy your machine. If you get into any problems don't hesitate to call our sewing dept.
Thank you for this video. Ive had the Janome MC300E for 16 years and it is now getting tired I think. Ive been trying to decide on the 500E and the MB4. Just wondering if that was the extension table that was on the machine on this video? It was not mentioned at all and it is supposed to come with the machine. Is there a video done for that table. I loved this video. You were sooo informative. Thank you very much. I love my 300E, but im afraid I have to put her to rest so to speak.
I have just ordered the Janome 500e machine and decided to see reviews and watch/listen to a few videos to learn more about it. This video is good and gave many tips on using it however the audio was horrible. My volumn was turned to the max and I still had a very hard time hearing what she said. I'm glad I could at least see the steps she decribed with everything!
Very informative, however, I have never wound a bobbin in that manner. I have always threaded the end of the thread from the center post of the bobbin up through the hole in the flat part, and held that as the bobbin winds, then cutting off the end after it has wound for a bit. This prevents the end of the thread from getting tangled onto the bobbin.
great video, explains everything in detail! i inherited this machine from my grandmother recently. while following this video, i discovered that the hoops don't fit underneath the foot, even when raised. any ideas on how to solve this? thanks
for a thin item it should gently nudge in. For thicker objects, try lifting up higher the presser foot in the back of the machine on the lever, it should provide more clearance.
thank you so much, i just have the machine and need to learn a lot. Do u also have a video were u show how to change colors? And what color thread u use in the bobbin under, the same or a special invisible color? Have a great day :)
Love my Janome 500E embroidery machine. LOVE her instructive videos. I do not know how to use the clamps that came with my machine. Cannot find info on you tube. Do I need to purchase magnetic hoops?
Hi that was a great video, I have the 550e and was wondering if it works in the same way as the 500e? May I ask a question please? Is there a way when you are embroiderying to set the machine to do all of one colour first before it moves onto another colour. It is so maddening when you have to keep changing the threads after only doing half a dozen stiched to move to the next colour.
Very good question! Typically the designers will have the design stitch out in a specific order so that colors laying down on other colors in order. When using many colors it can seem a daunting task to change the spools out but this way you don't end up with several long long jump threads! Although because purple is my favorite color I have stitched out a design using just purple!
I got this machine a couple of months ago.. how long do you think this could last? Just kinda curious on how long I can work with it effectively cuz I love the job it’s doing so far
Most of our regulars use this machine or the 550e for embroidery. Although this machine is rather new it's not unheard of for other Janome sewing machines with proper cleaning between projects and regular services to last 25+ years!
Your wide tray May I ask were to get this? I love your explanation of the machine and I have the 400e and they are similar. I am a beginner and have a hard time transferring files to my usb stick.
Thank you! Great suggestion! Insert your USB drive/stick into your embroidery machine and format the the usb stick using your embroidery machine. This will create a EMBF and a EMB file. Once this is complete you can place the USB stick into your PC. Next, search for and open the EMBF or EMB folder on the USB stick and save your design from your PC to the EMBF or EMB folder you have created! Another option is to call and see if you can schedule an appointment with your local Janome dealer to have them show you the process if that is something they would be willing to do! I hope this helps.
Great tutorial. Thank you! I’m about to buy either this machine, janome 500e, or the janome 550e. Do you know the main differences between them or what the upgrade is, or is it simply just 3 inches bigger in area size. Just trying to compare the two. Hope you can help. Thank you xxx
The best recommendation is to check the Janome website! They have all the features listed for each machine and compare them to see which will suite your needs! What one person would need and desire could be completely different for another individual!
Can you troubleshoot who have issues with sulky metallic thread breakage. I use a thread stand, net for thread, topscotch needle, slow the machine (500e) down to 400spm. I have tried changing the tension, it still stitches a couple stitches and breaks. I have a feeling the 400spm is still to fast. I don't seem to have that problem with my Janine 6600mc. Christmas time is for glitter and sparkle. Thank you
We recommend using Organ Brand titanium needle(janome makes theses), slowest speed on machine, a 80 weight bobbin thread, and set the spool stand a long distance from the sewing machine. Also adjust the top tension for the metallic thread.
Would it be worth it to purchase the 550e vs the 500e? What is the big difference besides one having a larger hoop? I’m fairly new to embroidery and I’m having trouble deciding which one to get 🙃
So sorry for our delay in response. You are right, the biggest difference is the hoop size. We still offer the 500E and feel it is a great machine for the price point. If you are in our area, please let us know if we can help you find the right machine for your embroidery needs.
hi i hope someone can help me. i purchased the MC 400e and for some reason it does not read my usb i have bought several different ones i now have 16gb and it still doesnt read it. is the usb to large for the machine should i get an 8gb or smaller? i did some research and it seems that 16gb is ok to use. i just want to be able to open desings i already own in jef format so that i can make applique shirts. thanks in advance for the help.
Format the usb in the machine first. Place usb in computer look for and find folder called EMBF this is where you copy your embroidery files from your computer so that the machine can find and read them. For ordinary sewing designs copy those from your computer and place those in the folder called ORDR
Stephanie says she has her setting turned off and as she stitches out designs and does thread changes she keeps an eye on her bobbin and changes it when it gets to a point to low. She says she uses what is left on the bobbin to hand sew binding. On the setting .5 is the lowest setting on the machine to leave thread on the bobbin!
It depends on the reason why you want to change from the auto setting. Some fabrics require tension adjustment, but a well maintained machine with the proper matching thread, needle and tension should auto adjust to most fabrics.
I have a chance to buy this 500e, but someone told me this machine has some issues and she encouraged me to get the 550e. I do like the larger hoops on the 550e. Is that the only difference between the two machines?
Thank you! I can transfer onto a USB but not from the PC to the machine using the cord and software provided. My local dealer admits she knows nothing about the embroidery machines so no help there. Like I said I got more from you!,,
Okay, is there a slot to place the usb into the embroidery machine! Take out the USB from the computer and put it into the embroidery machine look for the USB icon once the USB is in the embroidery machine! We will be happy to help you by phone also. Feel free to call and ask for Stephanie or Nancy if you need further help!
Thanks sFor the reply. But what I can’t do is install the plug into a USB on my computer and the other end plugs into my sewing machine. With the software I should be able to transfer from PC to machine directly
Your tutorial was a Hugh help. But I can’t switch off my machine. I can’t get out of a pattern that I was viewing and I think that is why it won’t switch off
Hello please may I ask,I purchased a 550e ltd edition and Was given Extra design's on a USB,I formatted the the usb and Embf folder appeared but the designs where a few how do I get the extra on the stick the and ones on artistic designs as I can't figure out.If anyone could help #Janome junkies you be making my life easier thanks in advance 😊😊
New to this, and planning on buying this machine. What software do you recommend? I was told Hatch was a good one, but there are 4 levels and having a hard time understanding the differences in each one.
Hi there, i am having trouble with the thread. It keeps breaking and i have no clue why. I have tried altering the tension and checking the bobbin case and cleaning it. PLEASE HELP:(
With the right needle, thread and tension paired with appropriate stitching density Yes. Not all leathers but the thinner leathers. Also there are varying thicknesses of vinyl so the thinner vinyl's work best!
They can't be changed in the machine but their are embroidery designs that can be purchased. If you have a design you can digitize it in Janome Digitizer!
hello, im planning on coming out w a clothing line and was wondering if anyone knew how big the design could get up to? & was wondering if i can via send a image to the machine and program it like that or how does that work?
7.9x11inches, You place a jump drive in the embroidery machine and format it, after that you can save your embroidery files in the folder EMBF on the jump drive that the machine created when you formatted the jump drive. Once you saved the files from your computer to the jump drive in the EMBF folder on the jump drive you are ready to open them in your embroidery machine by placing the jump drive into the sewing machine.
@@jorgesolis8913 When you insert the jump drive into the sewing machine you want to sewing machine to format the jump drive, wipe it clean and the machine will add the folders it needs so later when you add embroidery designs to those folders the machine will be able to read them!
@@alwaysinstitches5388 Hi! That’s where I was. I was following your steps as shown in the video. When you get to that part the Yes for calibrating the hoop is highlighted in blue in your video. Mine is white and can’t be clicked on.

Thank you for your comment. As you know people who are experts at say sewing machines may still be learning how to be on camera. Most of our employees at our small family owned business haven't recorded a video before.
