1st Lt. Russell and Airman First Class Ashley, MQ-9 operators with the 20th Attack Squadron, share their accounts of the C-130 Hercules airdrop that could have gone much worse. The mission of the 432nd Wing/432nd Air Expeditionary Wing is a 24/7 combat mission, answering the need for armed overwatch in protection of our friendlies.

I’m surprised the sensor operators are enlisted in Reaper squadrons, in manned aircraft WSOs are all officers, am I wrong? Could someone knowdgeable comment on that?
@peterpepelehew6283

been that way for years for many types of aircraft - RPA, AC-130 or others ISR assets- the sensor operators are enlisted.

The one who actually pulls the trigger is an officer. I know there were talks a few years ago about allowing enlisted pilots, but I haven’t actually seen that. The SO just needs to laze it in.

@@audreyshelton2083 As one of those who lazed a hellfire on target, our pilots just pull the trigger, we are responsible for putting warheads on foreheads

Two sad take aways - these kids might actually think 34min to get approval is fine & they call a gunner a sensor operator for political consideration.

Like the F-16 pilot that lit up a Canadian Army training mission in Afghanistan killing four and wounding a whole ward for Landstuhl?

@@jwaustinmunguy An F16 incident has nothing to do with this. It was extremely clear who shot and what their target was. It should have been taken out immediately. Have a few people review the footage if they think it's that important, take them out in a maximum of 5 minutes. Letting it go for over half an hour gave them plenty of time to get into a populated area, even though they did not get lucky in the end. You are a pussy, sir.

As soon as they saw that RPG fire, a missile should have been on the way to the firing point. My God, they knew it was bad guys when they came running out of the building? I knew it was bad guys when they shot at us.

"The Tarnak Farm incident refers to the killing of four Canadian soldiers and the injury of eight others from the 3rd Battalion, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Battle Group (3PPCLIBG) on the night of April 17, 2002, near Kandahar, Afghanistan. An American F-16 fighter jet piloted by Air National Guard Major Harry Schmidt dropped a laser-guided 500-pound (230 kg) bomb on the Canadians, who were conducting a night firing exercise at Tarnak Farms."

@@jwaustinmunguy Pretty sure they weren't actively engaging US forces though. Completely different thing.
