Thanks for watching. It can feel overwhelming at first but it's definitely worth persevering with. The confidence you gain in being able to reduce flare ups and manage the condition is invaluable. My number one tip is to download the Monash app and get familiar with it before you begin. Best of luck 🤞🏻

I've been able to reintroduce GOS, fructose, and mannitol. I have a very low tolerance for fructans, sorbitol and nightshades though. I like that the fodmap diet gave me control over my gut and helped me figure out my mystery allergy (citrus of all things!) but I still struggle with the restrictions so it's good to hear from other people who have reached this stage.

Hi Michelle! I think this video is great as it truly shows what the diet is all about. I’m nearly at the end of phase 2 which has taken longer than what the dietitians told me it would. Life gets in the way and often there’s no right time to reintroduce foods. I’ve only got fructose left so not long now. I feel, however that I will always be keeping track of what I eat. I feel that I might have to keep a meal low fodmap everyday to avoid stacking or, like you say, eat low fodmap before and after a night out. It’s a commitment but if it helps it’s worth it.

I see absolutely no difference, unfortunately. If anything I am worse than I was :( I'm coming up to the reintroduction phase soon and just completely hopeless.

So sorry to hear that you're struggling. Are you working with a dietitian? Not everyone with IBS is sensitive to FODMAPs. The advice from Monash, the creators of the low FODMAP diet, is that if you've not had a positive response or improvement within the first month then FODMAPs may not be contributing to your symptoms. www.monashfodmap.com/blog/when-low-fodmap-diet-doesnt-work/

@@TheIrritableVegan The doctors won't help me get one, and I can't afford one, so no, I've had to do it on my own. I can't eat soy, most vegetables or fruits, beans.. . yet all my tests have been fine.
@TheIrritableVegan
@TheIrritableVegan 8 месяцев назад
I'm so sorry that you're having to do this alone. Unfortunately the diet has not yet been tested without dietitian supervision so it's difficult to say how effective it is for those forced to follow it without help. This could be why you're not seeing any improvement. It's also possible that you're not sensitive to FODMAPs, not everyone with IBS is. In this case removing them from your diet will not help and is not advised. If you haven't experienced any relief or improvement in symptoms during the elimination phase then I'm afraid there's no point attempting the reintroduction phase. You won't be able to rely on the challenge results if you're still having flare ups and this could potentially lead to you unnecessarily avoiding or restricting foods based on skewed data. The Monash app does have a reintroduction section to help you decide what foods and portions to use but again it assumes that you had a successful elimination phase and are in a position to reintroduce and it sounds as though this is not the case for you. 😔

Yes. I eat all high FODMAP foods now in various portions. I still get flare-ups but I handle them much better these days.

Can I use this diet to gain weight, I need to gain 40lbs or do large portions aggravate IBS?
@TheIrritableVegan
@TheIrritableVegan 5 лет назад
Hi, a low FODMAP diet is purely designed to assess your sensitivity and tolerance to the FODMAPs in certain foods. The diet is initially very restrictive and is unlikely to result in weight gain. Most people find that eating large portions aggravate their IBS symptoms, even if the food they are eating is low FODMAP. If you suffer with IBS and need to gain weight then your dietician will be able to advise you best, based on your individual needs. Good luck, I hope you manage to figure out what works for you. 🤗

I have IBS and I want to start the diet but I don't know from where I can get the right information of the diet and what to eat exactly, can you help me, please ? :(
@TheIrritableVegan
@TheIrritableVegan 5 лет назад
Hi @mariamabdulla the first step is to get professional help from your doctor or dietitian. This diet is incredibly hard to do correctly without proper support. That being said I understand that this type of help may not be available to everyone. My number 1 tip for anyone attempting to start the low FODMAP diet is to download the Monash app (I have non affiliate links in the description of every video) Monash university are the pioneers of this diet and are constantly updating the information on the app with new results from their ongoing research. It's not a free app but I promise you it's a priceless resource for low FODMAPPERs. You will find lots of support, recipes and FAQs online but a lot of it won't be of any use to you unless you are following the basics of the diet and have the Monash app for reference. Best of luck with everything 🤞🤗

The Irritable Vegan I downloaded the Monash app , it such an amazing app ! , but there is somethings I am not sure of them. . 1- how many hours I should wait before eating a new meal . 2. Is it okay to eat a lot of green light food with limits ? . or their is a specific number of green light food with limits I can eat per meal ?
@TheIrritableVegan
@TheIrritableVegan 5 лет назад
@@mariamabdulla2333 Brilliant, the Monash app is a great start. There are some common guidelines but the most important factor of the diet is that you are constantly learning and adapting it for yourself based on everything you're learning about your triggers and symptoms. The general advice is to leave 3 hours between each meal or snack. When it comes to multiple portions for most people the limits have been set to allow you to eat multiple portions of different food at each meal. To begin stick to 2-3 fodmap free or trace FODMAP foods and no more than 2 portions of foid from the same FODMAP group to avoid "stacking." Some people are more sensitive to this than others so again you'll need to pay close attention to your personal limits. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🤞🤞

IBS is hard! I prefer to tell it like it is and don't believe in sugar coating it or offering "miracle" solutions. Research consistently shows that IBS patients are twice as likely than the general population to suffer from anxiety disorders and depression. I hope you find the help and support that you deserve. 🙏 ❤ doi.org/10.1007/s11845-022-03258-6
