What I like about your channel is that you are always honest about how you live your motherhood, your judaism, your professional career... This Q&A is the proof! I would love some Israel travel vlog or maybe an article about your time in Israel (I know it can be a controversial topic so I understand if you wouldn't want to make it public) and for sure some video about how a mother can explain/introduce the powerful meaning of the High Holidays to her children 🍎📯 P.S. Your boys are just the cutest! ❤️

I've been following your channel for a while now and just started catching up with the newer videos. I was raised orthodox in Israel (dad is a converted american), but later found out I'm more of a conservative really. In general I think the spectrum is very wide these days, so groups from different branches can find lots of similarities and besides it's also important to remember we're all jewish in the end :) Just wanted to say I love your videos, I aspire to be a minimalist too and I really like seeing jews from different places. When I was in Oz I completely forgot about synagogue security and had a rather weird encounter with these guys, but ended up meeting some great people. When we go to extremes our judgement becomes clouded but, we don’t notice because we’re in the picture, too close...rather than on the outside looking in with more clarity. I’ve wanted to be Jewish for so many years!! I even went as far to find out my ancestry by dna to find out if I’m Jewish by blood and I was highly disappointed bc it turned out I’m not. Unfortunately I do not have a way to convert to Judaism because there aren’t synagogues around here unless I drive some hours which I can’t do (long story). So I just admire Judaism and keep hopeful for one day to be able to convert. Thanks for sharing so much on your life and religion:)
@m.j.c.6969
@m.j.c.6969 2 года назад
It doesn't sound as if you know what you really want right now Ashley. You're offering excuses when nobody asked for them and it seems as if you're trying to convince yourself why you can't. It has nothing to do with taking DNA tests or admiration. I know people who did most of their Jewish learning online and only had to go to the synagogue at the end. If it's right for you, you can start that journey. I doesn't seem like you want that right now though.
@Wafflesprinkles

@m.j.c.6969
@m.j.c.6969 2 года назад
@@Wafflesprinkles I'm not assuming anything. You post in public. If you don't want people responding, don't post in the first place. Nobody knows who you are and you claim to want to convert and bring up DNA for some reason then offer unsolicited excuses as to why it's just impossible for you. I know SEVERAL people who converted online through a synagogue for FREE!!!!!! I'm guessing this is how you conduct yourself in other aspects of life: explain how something is holding you back instead of taking action. I think we both know this, don't we? You can convert remotely for free but I am sure you'll offer up yet another excuse as to why you can't. Either convert or don't but don't go looking for a pity party for yourself.

@MyJewishMommyLife
@MyJewishMommyLife 4 года назад
The Conservative movement is very committed to inclusion, you can read about it here: uscj.org/leadership/community-covenant
@tstieber
@tstieber 3 года назад
Alex, our (Conservative) Rabbi would not perform a wedding ceremony for an interfaith couple, but our congregation would welcome an interfaith couple into the community. By contrast, our Rabbi would marry me and my husband as a same-sex couple since we're both Jewish (and since we only had a civil marriage and not a religious one, I hope we can do that after Covid). In other words, not being Jewish does have an impact on what one can participate in as a member of a congregation. Non-Jews are certainly welcome but have limitations, just as a non-Catholic can't take communion in a Catholic church service.

You were raised this way so I guess this is all you know but really the Torah isn't something you can observe according to your likes. Picking and choosing what you want to do is hilarious. Shabbos is sacred for the Jewish people only. Given by Hashem. Its really sad to see...
@MyJewishMommyLife
@MyJewishMommyLife 3 года назад
I understand you feel strongly about the words of Torah but in all of Jewish history it has always been a document that is interpreted by man. From the writings of the Talmud and the interpretations and rulings Rabbis give today. It was never a document that someone could read and take as a literal script for how to live life. Our ancestors had concubines and multiple wives in the Torah yet Jewish law forbids this now.
@Star-qh5wp
@Star-qh5wp 3 года назад
@@MyJewishMommyLife are you comparing yourself as man to interpret the laws according to your opinion. The Torah was given in 2 parts. The written. And the spoken. Thru the next few hundred years the spoken Torah was becoming forgotten so the sages of those times wrote it down. They all had ruach hakodesh. It was in the times of the holy temple. They were all on the spiritual level to be able to be mechaya hameisim. Are you seriously implying that they interpreted it to their own will or with gods divine guidance? They were able to converse with angels. Thats how holy they were. The rebbis who started the conservative and reform movements were nobodies. More like people who just like you chose to twist the Torah to accommodate modern times. It started when the world became more industrial and advanced. Its the new way of being jewish without actually Following the Torah. This is inexcusable. You were raised this way so you are considered a tinuk shenishba. Which a means a child that wasn't raised with better. Driving on shabbos and eating non kosher food and saying you are an observant jew is like being born a boy and deciding you are really a girl. You can fool half the world but you know the truth. It isn't politically correct to speak the truth but truth is not changeable.
@Star-qh5wp
@Star-qh5wp 3 года назад
@@MyJewishMommyLife its great that you are proud to be jewish. But to be truly observant you need to follow the Torah laws.
@Star-qh5wp
@Star-qh5wp 3 года назад
@@MyJewishMommyLife another thing is that some things that were allowed to do they chazal stopped because the generations were becoming weaker for example multiple wives etc. The human pysche was not capable of that level anymore. But a direct law in the Torah was never allowed. Shabbos is a direct law from Hashem given only to the Jewish people. Even someone who converts has to be mechalal shabbos every week before they convert. A non jew is actually not allowed to observe the shabbos. Defying that is spitting on everything that Hashem gave us. This is a mitzva he still gifted us in the midbar the desert before we even were given the land of isreal. Eating kosher has specific laws and was also something that happened at Maton Torah. It says clearly that the people in the desert were busy separating the meat from the dairy dishes. Burning the ones they couldn't kasher. The kosher laws were divine from hashem and is clearly written in the Torah. This is not something that a rebbe interpreted. Thats so misleading because any rebbe can decide I am a rebbe let me change the Torah. No way. You had to be more. Much more. Its very sad to see how many jewish people aren't educated and are told and taught lies about the Torah to justify living according to how its comfortable for them.
