It’s so interesting and sad to me that girls can show more boyish behaviors and interests and no one thinks anything of it. They are just “Tom boys”….. it’s nothing. I feel you my man. I have had people think I am gay when I was younger. I love ballet, musicals, cats, figure skating, gymnastics, and Elton John. But I am 100% straight. I do not think that liking these things makes you gay but trust me I understand where you come from. Most people who (in my experience) who give you stick about being gay are gay themselves. But I still plan on watching figure skating at the next Olympics.

I am really glad you addressed this because i feel almost the same way. Everyday I wake up and try to dress a certain way to not be called gay or anything related to it. I also used to stereotype people based off the way they looked or call them gay. It until recently I figured out I like this boy and I’m not going to go out of my way to change my whole personality to seem “gay”. Gay doesn’t determine your lifestyle, it LITERALLY determines who you are attracted to. So in response of realizing I stopped and I may look “gay” to some people, or act “gay”, i stopped caring what anybody thought. I do believe it should come to an end and can live the way I want without being stereotyped to where I don’t wanna be the person I AM anymore.

Anthony, this is so meaningful, and so well-said. I've only recently gotten into your videos (sorry!), but I'm loving them. And as someone who's just recently started identifying as non-binary, I've been thinking a ton lately about all the things you talk about in this video. Whether we identify as straight or gay, cis or otherwise, I think that the way societal norms of masculinity expect so much of us - pressuring us to not have a purple lunchbox, to not be sensitive or emotional, to not walk a certain way, to not stand or sit a certain way - it's so restrictive, and so exhausting. Thank you for sharing and talking about this, and for, as always, articulating these things as beautifully as you do.

This video is so good and I'm realy glad that you made it. No matter what your sexuality is, it's really nobody's business. People have this awful entitlement these days when it comes to that sort of into, but nobody should ever be forced out of the closet. In addition to that, as a society we really need to realize that self expression and someone's interests do not mean anything about their identity. I'm a trans guy, but I also like pink and cute things and baking and stuffed animals. But that doesn't suddenly change my identity or mean that I'm a trans-trender. I can be a man with cute interests, just like any other guy can. Being organized, liking pink and being good at dancing doesn't invalidate anyone's identity, just as wearing black and being a car person doesn't. Imagine how interesting everyone would be if we could all be our genuine selves.

I have a son who has never been famous but has lived parallel lives with you. For him, he didn't have a close relationship with his father who was in the home and definitely would compare my son to gay individuals. I even thought my son was secretly gay and ashamed of his sexuality, which only made things much worse. He's just a neat, clean, concerned individual who doesn't want to have random hookups and sexual encounters plus has a bit of anxiety. Actually, probably a lot more of the crippling type because he inherited that from me. I felt I needed to let him know it was okay to save his life in jet's here I was making his life so much smaller but even asking a question. Phenomenal video.

Fucking hell. This video needs to be seen by every damn adult I've ever known. My entire family (especially extended) has always thought I was gay because I 1. Liked Superheroes more than Princesses and 2. Never talked to *them* about boys or showed off whatever boy I was talking to. It never made sense to me because who the hell wants to talk to their aunt or grandma about how thirsty they are for some guy at school? That's the shit you talk to your friends about. My aunt doesn't even question it, she acts like she "knows" I'm a lesbian and even though I don't care and it's not an insult in the slightest, the way she says it is offensive and gross. To me, the biggest turn on in people is when they don't care about gender stereotypes. It's not that I'm attracted to guys in pink with painted fingernails but it's attractive if they can wear those things and not give a fuck what anyone's gonna think. While I was knew what the answer was going to be before watching the video, I still held out a tiny hope that this hot, funny OG youtuber would be gay... but alas, he's straight god dammit! 🙈 More seriously though - thanks for sharing this and your experiences @AnthonyPadilla!... As a gay guy myself, I completely understand what it's like when you feel you have to watch how you speak, act and interact with people and can't be free to just be yourself for fear of being judged, criticised or attacked by others - I just never knew that straight and non-gay guys experienced this too! Really happy that you found the confidence to embrace who you are and be how you want to be -- that's a basic freedom that everyone should have regardless of their S/O... but sadly for so many of us, this isn't a given and instead is something we need to work for years to achieve. ❤

As a gay man: I know stories like this and it honestly makes me so upset and confused. People view you as gay even when you're not, yet nobody ever assumes I--the actual gay man--am gay because I guess I appear more masculine somehow. People have no idea what actual gay people look like and they just end up assuming anything and everything they don't understand falls under that category, and it sucks.

How am I just stumbling across this video 4 years later. So relatable, just look at my profile pic 😂. I’ve been mistaken for being gay my whole life with one person (whom I never met up until that point) yelling “oh your gay right” on our first encounter…..it was awkward haha. I immediately laughed it off and corrected her, but it used to bug me that ppl immediately jumped to that conclusion without getting to know me. I’m extremely grateful to have never struggled with my sexuality, because I know it’s different for others. Thankfully I’ve come to the point in life where I just don’t care what others perceive of me. I’m just gonna be myself.
