The bigger issue for me is that there are so many indies popping up left, right and center and so many of them are low effort private labeled affairs its hard to sift through it all.
@highcontrasthughes1923
@highcontrasthughes1923 Год назад
Exactly this. I think the idea of what indie is when Kaleidos, Oden's Eye, etc started up has changed a bit. When a brand is private label and buying the exact same color story as every other indie brand, it all just becomes noise to me and I just don't get what the value prop of one is over the other, so I just opt out. Also, the absolutely cringe worthy packaging on some of these brands is just impossible to get behind.

@@highcontrasthughes1923 I'm not necessarily opposed to private label (I'll take a consistently good private label formula over an inconsistent unique formula) but I despise lack of effort or when they charge very high end. For the most part, I just stick to established indies now.

@@gilded_lady oh certainly. I agree and really didn't mean to imply I'm not open to private label brands - it's really that combo of private label + same exact color stories + awful packaging and indeed some of the outrageous pricing that puts me off, rather than just the fact that it's private labeled

There's absolute truth to the risk of sending a large audience to a small brand. A sculpter I love on Etsy cannot keep up with demand for her adorable items and has been so stressed. In our tiny town of 700, the award winning BBQ restaurant avoids any television or ads because word of mouth is already nearly more than they can handle. It's something many people don't think of and it's so sweet that you really care about this sort of thing.

I love your conversations about the community. I miss you talking about smaller brands and discovering new brands.your GRWM is a great way to highlight new brands that you've discovered. I don't necessarily want brands that are great with eyeshadow expanding into other areas at the expense of the quality of their core product. I remember avidly watching one of your videos that was reviewing all your shadows that were one colour (green?). I liked different shades and discovered new brands.

In my early 20s, I was the cool kid that wore MAC when it was a Toronto indie. Yes, I'm that old! MAC was revolutionary because it did makeup for all skin tones, which none of the mainstream brands, from drugstore to high end, did makeup for anyone darker than medium-light. And one of my proudest Canadian moments was walking into a flagship Canadian department store that had picked up MAC and there she was, RuPaul, on 3 metre high poster boards behind the MAC counter. A beautiful black spokes model for the newly launched Viva Glam. It was revolutionary for the early 90s. This was a year or two before Estée Lauder bought out MAC and ruined the brand.

What resonated from me in this video is thinking about if brands can handle the traffic to their site/shop and keep up with demand after being called out by someone with a big audience. An indie brand I love the quality of is Copacetic Cosmetics, but they're such a small team that their shipping time is usually 4 weeks. They have amazing multichromes, and even do a $2 Tuesday sale monthly (very low buy friendly), and when you buy a grab bag from them, they look at your account to see what you like/purchased to try and include things you'll like. While I wholeheartedly recommend them, it's good to be prepared to wait for the products to arrive. They have always been worth the wait, but it is definitely a wait. I like the approach of a "Best in Indie" series! While it's nice to try new things and brands, it's hard to justify waiting on it if it's literally your job. I hope you find a good balance, and I'll be watching either way!

Not only is she an IndieQueen and is constantly introducing me to new brands, she's also a color lover like yourself! Maybe she could give you a couple brands to check out? I feel like with her being a makeup reviewer in conjuction with being a smaller channel, she might have exactly what you're looking for! Hey Angelica! So I had an idea, with your "best palettes from each indie brand" video idea... Do you think a good video idea could be to do the best palettes within one brand, but each palette fits a category? So take UnearthlyCosmetics. What's their best neutral palette? Their best pastel? Their best rainbow? Best overall color story? Best monochromatic? Orrrr... Maybe pit all the indie brands together and do a video that's more like which neutral indie brand palette is the best? Which brand has the best rainbow? Best all shimmer? Etc... I'm sure you get it. All I know is that personally, I'd LOVE to see either video 😊 Anyway, I'm seriously loving all these videos that pull back the curtain (so to speak) of your mind and we're lucky enough to get hear what you really think. I'm all about hearing different perspectives. Imo, it truly is the only way to develop an open mind and to learn how to see things in a different light.

I'm noticing there's much bigger focus on indie brands from USA. As for someone who lives in EU with low income, that make-up is unreachable for me. Yes, I know there's Oden's Eye, Lethal Cosmetics and Glam Shop, but I want to see more. I'm always so disappointed when I see beautiful colour story palette and then I see it's brand from USA. Lots of those brands don't even ship to my country too. There's also a problem even within EU with shipping. Example: Kiko Milano is from Italy, I'm from Slovenia, so their neighbour country, but they don't ship to Slovenia. British brands are now useless for me too since the Brexit happened. That's why I would love to see more EU-based indie brands.

I don't know of any indie brands to try because i only found alot of the indie brands because of RU-vid, a few years ago i had no idea who Kaleidos, Oden's eye, Unearthly cosmetics, Lethal, Nomad, Sydney grace and many more where. So it's thanks to creators like yourself Angie that i found alot of these brands, I've tried some that i mentioned and they are fantastic 😀

Hi Angie!!! You have inspired me to use color combinations with your eye looks using similar colors I have. I know I am in the minority here, but I did want to comment that I am personally getting into single shadows because I realize that I have enough palates and just want to fill holes that I do not have in my collection and go through what I already own. I would love to have you do a video on “local” or Texas based brands and your experience purchasing. Even though I live in LA,I think it could be a fun concept. I would also love a brush video or at least how you use certain shapes because I realize it may be hard to track down specific brushes to link. Enjoy your family visiting 😀❤️❤️

Love this type of video!❤ I bought the bh Blueberry Muffin palette the same day you first mentioned it on New Makeup Releases. You were so excited about it, I didn’t even wait for a review!😅 I liked the older releases (Zodiac,etc.) but the bh madness that began with the Ice Cream Shoppe and Blueberry Muffin went through the roof. I was right there on the bh train! It’s so unfortunate that the brand was evidently unprepared for the magnitude of their success. 😢

I get more creasing using a glitter primer than not. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong because I see so many others loving them and having great looks utilizing them. When I do it's like the primer sticks to itself before I can even get the shimmers on it or I can't pack enough on or something and I can feel the glitter primer. I've used just the tiniest amount too.

Kerri I've had the same experience with traditional glitter glue or primer. What works for me is the Fyrinnae pixy epoxy & it's affordable. Highly recommend if you're really looking for something that does not crease on my heavily hooded lids. 🤗

I feel you! I also get creasing with the more putty style shimmers. I may have to retry Pixie Epoxy again!

Yep, same here. I usually stick to a regular eyeshadow primer and then dampen my brush with a mixing medium. Not a setting spray or duraline, but a mixing medium that some makeup artist brands sell. Makes shadows less waxy, more compact, and then it dries down and sticks.

I have hooded eyes and the trick to using a glitter glue (for me, and I have oily lids) seems to be applying a couple mustard seeds worth of it directly on my finger and tapping it on my eyelid so that it becomes a bit tacky. Using a brush ALWAYS results in creasing. I then use my pinky or a tiny brush to apply the sparkly shade with a light touch and not smearing. (tap it on).
@brookekivi
@brookekivi Год назад
@@blendofdays I too use the Fyrinnae and it’s much easier to work with. Zero creasing for me! I first found out about it from Theresa Is Dead’s comment section. I love how I find cool indie products not just from the creator’s videos, but also from the comment sections.

I nearly bought this palette but I'm glad I didn't as the colour story looks so much different in terms of tone here. The pictures on the website give the colours a much more solid, primary colour quality. I love Fantasy Cosmetica - I couldn't care less about the way the palettes are made or where they're made, they are such good quality and make me so happy, the international shipping is so reasonable in price and quick and the customer service great. Plus I love the familar fantasy aspect.

I really wanted to try indie brands until I received an angry email from Glaminatrix cosmetics. I didn’t make any order, it was just a generic email for everybody subscribed to their newsletter. In that email the owner was describing all the process of creating a palette, saying “I do this, I do that…”, so I understood she was making the shadows personally. to be honest I was shocked. So my doubt is who controls the quality? The ingredients, the conditions in which the products are made? Especially the hygiene? And is it even possible to make everything sanitised enough if you are making it at home/ office ?? I will apply the product on my skin / eyes. So I prefer to confide in a factory that are on market for a bunch of years

the best multichromes I've ever tried (and I've tried a lot) are from Touch of Glam! The shadows are amazing! The only downside is because it's only run by a few people it can take months before you get your order. I've ordered multiple times despite this and every time I was blown away by the quality!

My online business was my baby. I reached out to influencers, through their management and not one got back to me. Had an influencer deigned to respond to me, I think my business could have succeeded. I would have been able to pay my staff. I was a person who wanted to pay for sponsorships. Influencers, in my opinion, can make or break a business.

Portland Black Lipstick Company. There are actually many shades besides black. They are handmade and very moisturizing and very pigmented. Colors you won’t find anywhere else.

I have super hooded (and oily, lol) eyes and I always use the wnw photofocus eyeshadow primer underneath my eyeshadow and underneath glitter primer, it's the best I've ever found at keeping my eyeshadow in place no matter what (literally, better than UD, better than Smashbox, Milani, Mac, etc).

I really love this video! It shows how self-aware you are about your influence and I really appreciate that! As for a small indie brand I really fell in love with after trying it is ProGlitz! It's an UK based brand, and I just stumbled across their UH-MAZING loose multichrome pigments. They're just so sparkly and yummy, and the owner was a makeup artist and is just really nice! She helped me multiple times when choosing what to buy, and also threw in free goodies after I got a customs charge I wasn't supposed to get. So 100% recommend ProGlitz!!!

The formula of some of these newer Unearthly palettes is a little bit different. It's like when you start out with the lighter colors and then go in with the darker colors, the darker colors aren't gonna appear as deep. But when you start with the darker colors, they seem to appear more pigmented. Back when they mainly did the 9 pan palettes, it seemed like the order in which you layered the colors didn't make as big of a difference.

Yes Angelica, A collective video of your favourite small indie brands that u have tried either through accepting PR from the brand or recommended by one of us Subscribers. I love the Small Indie Brand called "Island Play" I have 2 of their palettes and I really like them, very colourful and both matts and Shimmers preform lovely. The owners name is Gisselle and both my orders, that I have placed, have had a hand written note from Gisselle, packaged well for Transport also. I do love that u r doing different videos and I feel that u r getting back to your creator roots, which I love, since u have been on your low buy. Love Alli and Bella XXX

Yes best of indie would be great! I’m loving these more creative videos. Even though I do enjoy new makeup videos. Since ALL the youtubers I watch end up getting them, they start to get repetitive and I’m not as invested when I watch the videos. I still do because I love supporting my fave you tubers but it just gets old quick 🙈 great video. Keep ‘em coming

But not to be just negative, thanks to your videos I've discovered swedesh brands and I love them, it's so unique when youtuber recommends eu based brands, thank you for that.
