Welcome to a preview of the 13th Ask Me Anything (AMA) episode, part of Huberman Lab Premium.
Huberman Lab Premium was launched for two main reasons. First, it was launched in order to raise support for the main Huberman Lab podcast - which will continue to come out every Monday at zero-cost. Second, it was launched as a means to raise funds for important scientific research. A significant portion of proceeds from the Huberman Lab Premium subscription will fund human research (not animal models) selected by Dr. Huberman, with a dollar-for-dollar match from the Tiny Foundation.
If you're an existing Premium member, you can log in to access the full episode at hubermanlab.supercast.com.
If you're not a member, you can join Huberman Lab Premium at www.hubermanlab.com/premium to enjoy exclusive content, including monthly Ask Me Anything (AMA) episodes, AMA transcripts, podcast episode transcripts, early access to live events and help advance human scientific research.

@hubermanlab please keep this great work going :) I have 2 suggestions to look into : Vini Yoga ( in Cali you can look up Yoga Well institute ,Chase Bossart ) it is a type of practice that addresses a Lot of the things you have mentioned and Pilates ( which you probably heard of) by a very good practitioner which also has a huge “ posture / body awareness/ healing “ component worth exploring. If you were in Florida I would gladly offer a small window into those worlds. Highly recommend 👌🏽. I have listened to a vast majority of your podcasts and these would be a good compliment. Barbara 🧉🧉 ( Argentina native and also from 1975 🇦🇷 ). Gracias !!!

Standing mediation is a great call. Various cultures, spiritual cultivations, yoga, tai chi, qi gong, martial arts all have their own standing meditation. Zhuang zhang is what it’s called in Chinese. Beautiful, has mental, physical benefits, and acts as a therapy that dissolves physical stress in the body

I work at a day care and all my babies along with myself were constantly sick! Despite how much I cleaned we just couldn’t get better! I started pulling my blinds all the way up and opening my windows! Along with cleaning with vinegar and essential oils and washing their little hands with Castile soap before lunch and snack and oh my goodness! You wouldn’t believe the difference it makes! My class and I are healthy ❤ what’s really wild is that on Monday they are congested and runny noses but Tuesday they are totally fine! One day of sunshine and fresh air in the class has them back to normal after a weekend inside at home!

Ahh... I was thinking AMA was from Ayurveda: toxins in the body ☺️. I got so touched by hearing about the support in research on mental health that I teared up😢❤. I was also reminded that I hadn't given feedback yet when you encouraged the viewers to help out with improving this channel. Which I'd love to, when I can use a computer instead of my phone. So if there will be another chance, I'm up for it😊. You have a great voice as well as your open & curious. You have this great balance of confidence with that & it doesn't go to your head which makes it a joy to watch you 😊. I lived north og Tromsø, out in the Island Andenes, for a while. Back then I ate much more dairy & I got sick a few times during the year. Now that I cut back a lot & stress a lot less I don't get sick, at least not so far this year. When I do, I keep to myself indoors. I breath through my nose as long as I can & if someone sneezes, I push the air infront of me by using my mouth to breath out. I always have an oil blend with essential oils to keep myself clean from bacteria and some of them even kill viruses. I think last time I was sick was spring last year.

I've been attempting small sessions of Wim Hof breathing in the early morning when I first wake up. I've got a lot to learn about this method but I'm trying to stay persistent as I grow with it. This week has manifested the first signs of sickness in our 5 person household. Wish me luck that I will dodge this round with Wim Hof breathing! I should also say that I have also come to the conclusion that sugar aids in proliferating viruses (in my body at least) so in addition to Wim Hof breathing I'm avoiding sugar while occasionally supplementing my drinks with Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE possesses antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties). Note - I do not take medications of any kind so I do not need to be concerned about adding and removing items from my diet as some people may have to therefore be mindful of GSE if you take medications.

I tried the Wim Hof breathing technique once. Unfortunately, I have an eardrum that was punctured and sometimes I deal with chronic dizziness. The Wim Hof technique left me on the floor with horrible dizziness for nearly a week. This may have actually saved my life because I was going to go to my brothers house for Christmas and was not going to let the blizzard stop me but the combination of blizzard plus the inability to walk upright or keep the world from spinning meant driving 60 miles was a very bad idea

I can only tell you what worked for me, as someone who used cannabis off and on for over 22 years (quit for various periods of time, like during pregnancies). Went cold turkey, used catnip tea for help with sleep & digestion. Made sure to eat at regular times each day, even when I didn't necessarily want to, to help re-establish my hunger cues. Went to bed before 10:30 every night and got up with the sun. Avoided other addicting things like ultra processed foods and very sweet sugary foods/drinks. Best of luck to you! ❤ Tom Bilyeu has a recent podcast episode with Gary Brecka that you might get some good information from.

As a recovering addict I can say those are great suggestions. Another thing to to consider is replacing times when wanting to ingest cannabis. Find something to do. An important part of stopping something like that is implementing a good self care routine. Also don’t be afraid to seek some support. Having connection with people is very important.

So simple way to lube the sinuse is dairy meaning yogurt, cheese, milk products. Just as a preventative measure Or just wonder what to do when you have no mucus. Like Dr H said... cold air, dry air, zero mucous and stuck in an elevator or crowded area, you need humidity, nose hairs and be a nose breather. I couldn't agree more!! Gold star for this one.. Priceless!!

And often in the winter when doing physical activity outside and trying to nasal breathe, it results in runny nose. Is there anyway to reduce this? Thank you and the team for all your efforts!!

As usual, top quality content, thank you Andrew. Staying on the topic of winter and cold; Does going outside with wet hair after showering increase one's susceptibility to catching a cold? Specifically, if someone showers at the gym, doesn't dry their hair fully, and then goes out into the cold air, are they more likely to catch a cold compared to if they dried their hair first? Or does damp hair not make a difference in cold weather exposure when it comes to getting sick?

Dr. Huberman, I know unpaid AMAs are like teasers, but this one created more questions than answers for me. The comment, if you’re coughing, you’re contagious, needs more context. It is not uncommon to cough for weeks after a sickness. Society today says stay home if you’re sick, so if a cough is contagious, then a cough is sickness. Does that mean stay home for a month? Also, the quick mention of Wim Hof breathing could make things worse depending on X is kind of a big deal since about a million people started Wim Hof based on your podcasts. Now I have to stop Wim Hof until you drop the full episode on cold and flu so I can find out if Wim Hof during a cold or flu is bad. Patiently waiting…

The temperature thing could be explained a bit more. The "lower body temperature" if severe and usually with a very chilled nose is directly impairing immune cells function. In short; don't do extreme Wim Hoffing before you go to crowded places. Whatever "flies" there, will "stick more".

Hola Doctor, Silly questions: I have a silly question: Is it possible to lower the eye pressure and minimize glaucoma by exposing oneself to the steam room? I ask because glaucoma is a threat to me. I love steam rooms in a healthy manner. But, I thought ? : the steam lowers my blood pressure; so; can the steam lower the pressure on my eye? If yes, how often? You and your team are a beautiful blessing. Your are one and only one of you. God bless you

Dr. Huberman, I think another guest series with Dr. Stuart McGill could break the internet. So many with poor core/lower back strength and issues!

Ok, so it's the middle of the night, I can't sleep, and I'm scrolling through Instagram and see a video of a young boy whose been given the gift of colorblind glasses. He puts them on, looks around at colors for the first time in his life, and gets very emotional. It is a beautiful tender thing. You sometimes see the same reaction with a person getting hearing aids for the first time. I thought immediately of you and searched for your AMA. I haven't watched this video yet, but I plan to. My question is, Andrew, what is going on in the brain and body to elicit such a deep response?

Hi, it would be very informative and potentially life saving if you did an episode on Empty Nose Syndrome. Jayakar V. Nayak, MD, PhD at Stanford would be an amazing guest. Regards Rowan

winter time, everybody is indoors at bars, malls, etc = a cesspool for respiratory viruses. washing hands several times a day helps reduce the risk. great video. thanks for sharing.

In the UK at least, I don't think people's overall inside v outside changes significantly as a % month to month year round.
