Pena was talking about how Nunes wouldn’t fight her after UFC 200 and Nunes responded “you lost after that” so Pena kept talking and Nunes continued with “Sara McMann almost beat you” The Sara comment had NOTHING to do with Pena saying anything about Nunes fighting cans, and Pena actually didn’t mention anything about Nunes ducking wrestlers - so why are you making things up to defend Nunes? Amanda started bringing up how Sara “almost” beat Julianna, even though they both finished her - so it was a stupid comment. Then she was saying “I beat her years ago” like beating her before Julianna means anything - so Julianna said “I beat Shayna Baszler before you did, big fucking deal.” If you’re going to make something up at least don’t do it under the actual video that we can just watch back and disprove you on.

100. Julianna has been chasing this fight 5 years. Amanda is 14-1 in the UFC. Julianna is the only woman man enough to fight her.

Pena's good at hyping fights - she delivered on hyping the Shevchenko fight too, and that was main event. If she could perform more consistently against elite level opponents she'd have a big fan base IMO.

Destroyed? She got caught in submissions unexpectedly because she was fighting opponents that she clearly underestimated and was arguably beating. Nunes nearly got caught in a submission by De Randamie too, and everyone knows Shevchenko won the second fight with Nunes. Pena is talking sense - that said, Nunes is on a higher level technically and she's the bigger and more explosive fighter. Pena has to not only survive the early rounds, but actually get in a fast-paced fight without getting K.Oed or submitted - if she doesn't push the pace then Nunes is going to sit back and just deliver punishment for the whole fight. It's a big undertaking for Pena, but she has more chance than Nunes' other recent opponents.

She’s been chasing Nunes down and earned the shot at one point only for Nunes to deny her the fight. Now, it’s true that since then she’s lost and that’s why they haven’t made the fight before - but she hasn’t been losing to cans. She lost to Shevchenko, who arguably beat Nunes too, and then she lost to De Randamie via submission and De Randamie almost caught Nunes in a submission too. Pena has yet to be destroyed in any fights I’ve seen of her - she got caught against De Randamie and Shevchenko, but she was putting up a good fight prior to the submission. I think it’s worth noting that nobody knew Shevchenko was a high level grappler at the time, and De Randamie has an even bigger element of surprise because she’s only recently developed any submission abilities (but displayed them against both Nunes and Pena, she just had a better angle on Pena or she would have gotten the finish in both fights). I do think Nunes is the better fighter - she’s bigger, stronger, more explosive, and technically better at every aspect of MMA - but I think Pena is tougher and has a higher will to win. This fight gets interesting if Julianna can push the pace in the early rounds and still survive - but it’s a big task to do that against a finisher of Nunes’ caliber. But either way - Pena has not been destroyed or outclassed in any of her fights that I’ve seen she just got caught in fights that she was arguably winning.

@@pokemonovice9758 She did deserve the title shot 4 years ago - she got strong armed by the UFC into a fight with Valentina after she beat Zingano just because Nunes chose to take the Rousey fight over Pena (who was the deserving contender). Julianna did then get beat by Valentina, but Valentina arguably beat Nunes too. So there’s no shame in that loss, especially given she was winning the round prior to getting caught. Nunes is talking about Sara McMann “almost” beating Julianna, because she knows that she can’t talk about Valentina and Germaine because Valentina arguably beat her too and Germaine almost caught her in a submission the same way she caught Pena. As I said, Pena didn’t get destroyed - she got caught in submissions in fights she was winning. Julianna mainly talked about beating Cat Zingano, which is very relevant because Zingano did destroy Nunes. I also don’t know what people expect Julianna to say. Do they expect her to say she knows Amanda has way more experience, is bigger and stronger than her, is a better technical striker and grappler and that she knows she’s fighting a massively uphill battle? No, she’s going to talk about why she has a chance to win, and she’s going to talk about how Nunes didn’t want to fight her, and she’s going to talk about how she beat Zingano when Zingano ragdolled Nunes. Julianna knows what topics to talk about and she knows how to sell her position in the fight, and I’d say she’s doing a good job of it too.
