Timothee Chalamet tells Christiane Amanpour that "when that film comes out -- if it comes out -- it's going to be really important to talk about. But that's not the time right now."
Timothee Chalamet is a creep and disgusting little opportunist! I hope his betrayal of Woody comes back to destroy him once Hollywood gets past the current witch hunt.
Bobby Dazzler Ancalagon Timothée was the youngest Oscar nominee to be nominated an Oscar in 80 years. He was OUTSTANDING in Call Me by your name which has an outstanding storyline, he was in Beautiful Boy which was based off a true story and his acting blew off everyone’s mind, by far his best acting job. He was in Lady Bird which he did a good job too, him and Saoirse Ronan were mind blowing, they are one of the best duo people in our generation. He was in Little Women which was a movie that is empowering to many women and a movie that boys and girls need to see, his acting was also amazing. He was in Hot Summer Nights which was a good movie for the summer of 2017, that role showed that he can do comedy, drama, and romance. He was recently in The King which he portrayed the role of King Henry V and did and AMAZING job because he showed that he can make more movies other than romance. He has upcoming movies like Dune and the French Dispatch that I know will be two amazing movies. Timothée has an amazing talent, sorry. Not other than he donated $1,000 to charity for the LGBTQ center in New York (you can even look up the video on RU-vid). Timothée is super kind and loves his fans because he is a fan, he knows what it feels to look up to someone. Stop trying to go after people who are unproblematic and kind, jealously isn’t a good color on you.
He gave all the money he earned from that movie to 3 charities that deal with sexual abuse and LGBT rights. He has just started in this business and is already faced with some hard decisions. Kudos to him for handling it so professionally unlike the other actor who also worked on this movie but nobody has said a word about it.
renata B G who is vulnerable? Timothy is certainly endearingly available. That is because he's already been protected, so he is unafraid. (Or unafraid to be afraid. Same thing in an important way) Vulnerable is different. Go to the nearest homeless shelter or mental institution if you want to experience real vulnerability. Timothy is endearingly available, no question. He has the power. But he needs to make better choices than this one.
He cannot speak negatively on the Director while still under contract (This is the reason we don't hear about on set problems or behaviors on any movie set until after it's release). He's donating his full payment from this movie to Time's Up and other organizations but still is not able to speak on this presently. He's 22yrs old and wasn't prepared to articulate an answer to this form of questioning. He did express that. If you don't grow up as an advocate and become an actor for the love of acting, not as a platform to promote change, there is a learning curve. He is now realizing he's been given a platform and is now navigating his way through newly found fame. Ease up.
BlaqueCzar Old enough to what? Know better than to be a predator? Yes. Old enough to be a seasoned, media trained actor? No. He was asked a question that some of the most Hollywood elite have never even come close to answering to the satisfaction of the public. Also, what double standard are you referring to? 18 is merely the age of legality not maturity. You are demonstrating that with the lack of empathy or understanding that comes with age.
@@wwbuirkle give the guy some credit, hes almost new in the industry, hes young and at that time, he was under contract, he really talked his way out of it in a really mature way
Scary thing is he speaks in this interview in a way which makes him seem educated and aware of the issues of abuse of power- and he speaks like a feminist. Yet he’s clearly a problem himself. actions over words
Funny how the youth has to fix all the problems. They need to fix the enviormental problems created by the old greys, they must behave better and have more rules than in the old days of the greys. They must earn less, and pay more for life and education than the old greys. :^) Do you remember when your grandpa and ma picked plastic as a school activity?.
He knew about Woody Allen’s allegations but he turned on him when his image was going to go down Edit: I was much younger when I wrote this and I felt embarrassed at how harsh it was so I edited it. I wish him the best 👍
She was only interviewing him ergo he’s the only one she could ask. She doesn’t generally do celeb interviews but has taken over for Rose, so now she is. Many other actors have been asked about their decision to work with WA in the past.
@@longmemory1620 Cate Blanchett got an Oscar thanks to a Woody Allen movie. Emma Stone,Kate Winslet,Joaquin Phoenix,Anthony Hopkins,Kristen Stewart, etc have all worked with Allen. If idiots are gonna bash Timothee and the rest of the cast, they should bash every single person who has worked with Allen.
i hate how she’s asking in a way of WANTING to get a negative reaction from them, like that woody allen question, she put timothée in the spot and it felt really intrusive and not professional at all
Robert Becker Becker he was very new to the industry at the time. We don’t know what was going on behind closed doors. What we do know is that if he spoke out against Woody Allen, he would be looked at as a troublemaker and his career might tank and that he donated all his earning of this movie to 3 different charities dealing with sexual abuse.
both Selena Gomez and him have donated their salary to movements like Time’s Up, but they’re both under a contract. They cannot say anything. This was a press tour for Call Me By Your Name, not a press tour for A Rainy Day In New York so the question was completely out of place and unnecessary.
Can we please back off people for having worked with Woody Allen? Sexual assault is a crime. Knowing someone who was once accused of sexual assault is NOT. And you are putting this young man in a horrible position, asking him to speak for other people's wrongdoing. Especially when this approach seems to be applied so selectively. Kevin Spacey was apparently a horror on the House of Cards set. He wasn't even trying to hide his misconduct. But we're not throwing Robin Wright under the bus, are we?
revelwoodie if you knew the crime was committed and worked with him anyway then you are a dirt bag. But I would agree if you honestly didn’t know, you shouldn’t be held accountable for that.
Well, Cynthia, I have no idea if Woody Allen has committed a crime, and neither do you. But more importantly neither does Timothee Chalamet. And whenever someone works with Woody Allen, there is a vocal subgroup of people who think they should be punished for that. They're entitled to that opinion. But when major journalists on CNN start making people answer for Woody Allen, it's starting to sound a lot like, "Have you ever seen Goody Proctor with the Devil?"
Why is Christine Amanpour doing an entertainment interview anyway? These young guys are obviously uncomfortable. They don't know what happened w/Woody Allen. They're just going along with the tidal wave.
Why are they asking a 21-yo questions that can potentially damage his reputation especially during the awards season. I definitely hope Chalamet's publicist knows how to protect his client.
True. He has nothing to do with it, I mean, what can he say? Why havent they asked the other actors in WAs movie? At least he’s actually DOING something and donating the money he earns to LGBT funds and Time’s Up. Actions speak louder than words. He handled it well though, he’s a smart and talented kid and deserves every award in this world.
They are asking a 21-yo questions that could damage his reputation because that 21-yo did things that could damage his reputation. I love Timothee and am very happy with his later decision regarding his earnings from this movie, but he's a big boy and this fuck-up is no one's responsibility but his own.
johanna what do you mean with ’fuck up’? He didnt know nothing about it? Its not his fault that the accusations came up AFTER filming this movie. He handles everything very very well, better than any other actors out there.
Elena Leuku Shakeri you know these accusations are older than timothee are, right? Woody Allen’s adoptive daughter first came forward in 1992. The infamous open letter dates back to 2014. This case has been around, and Hollywood knows about it. It’s not a case that came forward or even gained infamy during the #metoo or Time’s Up movement - in fact I’m surprised just how little it’s been brought up in light of that movement. This has been well documented and well known for years.
This is such a bad interview. These two actors are so nervous, you can tell from their face. Come on you don't need make an interview into an interrogation.
This interview truly demonstrates Timothee's ability to articulate a response exceptionally well. As a budding lawyer it's refreshing to see someone in my age group who is capable of producing quality responses like this.
@@vadimastprojects8770 i'm pretty certain the person they're adressing as a creep is armie hammer, not miss amanpour. he's been apart of large controversy lately, there's many articles about it, far too complicated to summarise in a youtube comment
@@rrvvjjrr9194 the situation with armie hammer? you never know. i didn't say that the situation happened, nor did i say it didn't happen, all i said was that he has been apart of controversy. whether you, or i, or anyone believes it, is up to you, or me, or said person to decide.
Check his Instagram and the latest news. He regrets the decision to work with WA but can’t talk about it for contractual reasons. He announced that will donate his salary to charity.
M Express you're talking bullshit. people may have brought it to his awareness that women were being sexually abused and taken advantage of under WA, and also, a bunch of stuff you can read on what he did to his daughter. he donated his money to charity because it was the right thing for him to do. keeping the money for himself only means he's gaining the money off a rapist. he's supporting the rapist. timothée is a good guy inside, with good morals, so that's why he donated. he did what he could only do. i'm sure he regrets it. don't blame it on some "SHITTY ASS FEMINISTS" that made him donate.
I personally think actors shouldn’t be asked questions like this, unless an actor decides to speak up for a cause themselves I think it’s better not to ask these questions.
Actors are the face of the generation. They have the whole world and the youth looking upto them and they have a really big responsibility of influencing them.. Educating and inspiring them. So they should be asked about such questions.
It is seriously breaking my heart how in the last few seconds, his eyes and body language express such sadness as in some CMBYN scenes. I am sure it would be last thing on his mind to hurt any victims of sexual misbehaviour-institutions who failed if these women complained in the past are to be blamed and not all actors who ever came in contact with the "guilty" ones.
Timothee is the whole package when it comes to a great actor. Looks, Charisma, Mystery, Versatility and offscreen, he's so calm, grounded, and quick-witted. he can be funny if he chooses to. He's sexy yet adorable.. Whole package. He answered this so maturely.
It is immature to publicly allege someone of a heinous crime if you know that he was acquitted of all charges after thorough investigation. If Chalamet made this allegation and this 'offer' of donating his salary without even knowing what went on, he is even less mature than immature.
Oh yeah.. well how many people or body parts did he eat? Do you know? The answer is None. Oxford definition of Cannibal says "a person who eats the flesh of other human beings." It does not say the person who expresses their kink/fetish over it. A lot of people have rape fantasies etc. But doesn’t mean those women want to be raped for real or the men would actually go around raping women. People say a lot of things Armie said "I'm a Cannibal 100%" and I'm saying I'm the president of USA 100%.. this is such BS. Over exaggeration of the cannibalism. If he really was a Cannibal and had killed and eaten people he'd be in Jail not rehab.
@@ryflanigan5629 and you sound houseofeffie from her many fake accounts. I actually have me real name and picture on my account, you on the other hand 🤣
Mariah G bro srsly, she got some important questions but her facial expressions were sooo condescending, like she was giving me Soraya from María la del Barrio, gahdamn. Even I got scared just looking at her facial language
He is so mature and dealt with this situation very well. You can tell the interviewer was just waiting for something negative and being very intrusive. She needs to back off and learn how not to cross the line
The interviewer asking timmy how woody Ellen escaped the me too movement?? How come this is related to Timmy? He can't answer that on behalf of woody. Good thing he didn't. Sensible boy 👍
Timothy has said that he was directly told that he would not be nominated for an Oscar unless he renounced Woody. With Timothy having Call Me By Your Name coming out the same year he decided to buckle and sell out. Many people have backed this story up stating that it was the only way Timothy was allowed to be nominated. The kid is a sell out. Renouncing the best film he ever acted in will hurt his career down the road, don't worry. He got his Oscar but he also sent a clear message that he doesnt care about wrong or right, only getting nominated.
Mutatis mutandis, Greta Gerwig made the same (shameful) choice... Reminds me very much of all that happened at the time of the MacCarthy era. (A talented director such as Elia Kazan even sold his soul for ever in the process, btw. Remember how half of the Hwood VIPs audience refused to applaud, the day the old man finally got his honorary Oscar?).
It's amazing how all these women are rushing defend their crush in the comments. The donation happened after when he sensed he might be cornered and wanted an out. Reminds me of what Ricky Gervais joked about at the Golden globes, if Isis started a streaming service all these woke actors with running to call their agents.
They both dealt with these questions rather well, I’m sure when out on the spot it can be difficult to get out exactly what you want to say. I saw someone on Twitter recently say that the best thing that a man can do in this movement (or in any other movements for that matter) is to work as a megaphone for the woman - to not be there to say HIS truths, but to amplify and allow the voices of these women to be heard. I thought that was an incredible way of looking at things, and it’s one I hope to adopt in the future.
He wanted to work with allen because allen was a big name and it looked good on the cv. He knew exactly what he was doing... the giving money to charity was more pr crap
Her approach is an assumption yhat it had not happened yo them too. That in itself is makes her questions damaging with out having that diaglogue first. You ask him about someone else's behavior toward others?
Really? the question, wow. and Timothee just new for Hollywood but the lady let him talk for the Hollywood, I feel the question is too big for him, but he answer so well.
" how can he escape the me too movement?" ---- seriously WTF? is he found GUILTY at first place? It's exactly like saying to a woman, "who did you sleep to get to where you are today?" --- I mean WTF did you actually saw it?
I'm so proud of Timmy choosing to donate his salary from the film to 3 different charities. I love and admire him so much! You can tell that Timmy is truly insightful and compassionate so it's only painful to see him, and so many like him, scared to speak on Woody Allen. That perverted criminal ruined, not only his daughter, but so many great actors as well. Timmy made the right decision to be a sensible and sensitive human. Love and support him all the way :)
he ruined actors? what have you been smoking? what about the series of actresses that won oscars from his films? And since when is it a 100% fact that he actually molested anyone? when professional psychologists said otherwise.
This person obviously doesnt know who Woody Allen is. The thing with the internet is that you never know who you are talking to, this might be a 14 year old kid that's just reacting to some trend. Saying that Woody Allen ruined people's career is plain ignorant and stupid.
Scared to speak about Woody Allen? Obviously, but not for the reason you think. He is talking to a female journalist about feminism, and he doesn´t want to say anything that would upset women. They both look so uncomfortable because they know that if they say something wrong, they will lose their jobs
Proud of him? He's an hypocrite. Farrows letter detailing Allens (alleged) abuse was published in 2014, so unless he lives in a bubble he knew this before accepting that role. But he did it anyways because he wants the prestige it comes with working with that director and now chooses to donate the money as he just find out. And notice I am not saying Woody did or did not do what he was accused of, I am saying that Chalamet who clearly thinks Woody did it showed lack of character by the way he handled this. He should have declined the role if he thought that.
Armie Hammer being interviewed about protecting women in the industry is now super ironic now. What a creep! Meanwhile, Timothee Chalamet continues to be wonderful genuine. Admittedly I'm sad there will likely be no Call Me By Your Name sequel now. But I'm over armie hammer.
Well, well, well lookee how nervous Mr. Hammer was with the initial question. However, he goes on to effectively explain "power-ism" in the industry. As if from personal experience. (sarcasm) Ha!
lot of pandering in this interview. chalamet doesn't wanna talk about how his race has given him opportunities over Asian men, whom the media and Hollywood has historically framed as "undesirable" or erased altogether.
They both answered in a very eloquent manner, and props to Timothy for politely refusing to answer her intrusive and rude question. Also, I gotta say I loved Armie Hammer's answer about sexism. I agree, it comes from an abuse of power, not the nature of men as a gender.
lovely A no.. it’s mostly men.. bc most of that power is in the hands of men, w is probably how dozens and dozens of women were abused and no one said a word...
You can always tell the dudes who are just talking out of their *** when asked to comment candidly about misogyny, because they have things to hide or just aren't genuinely invested in the topic but trying to look impressively earnest about it- shifty eyes galore. In this clip, you can see that Timothee is entirely genuine and has thought meaningfully and introspectively about the topic, whereas Armie has a lot of complicated language to sort of beat around the bush without saying anything in particular or making any personal connections to it. It's a shame, because I think Armie really has truly great amount of charisma, talent, and stage presence in films as well as an amazing tone of voice- he is FANTASTIC in Call Me By Your Name alongside Timothee. It would have been really cool if he hadn't abused women and had more of his s____ together so that fans didn't have to go through hearing about all this vile stuff after witnessing such an incredible film. Timothee has had brushes with some really crazy scandals by association, and he just keeps proving himself to be a class act, a legitimately compassionate person, and the most adorable little bean. I am a BIT older than him, so to me he'll be a baby child until he's at least 30- don't @ me for it.
If people are dumb enough to shit on Timothee and the rest of the cast of ARDiNY,they should also bash Kate Winslet,Joaquin Phoenix,Cate Blanchett,Emma Stone and anyone else who has worked with Woody Allen after the allegations.
A directors actions of crime accusations, shouldn't fall on anyone as to take a role or not. It's a career move about the arts, if taking such a part, why accuse said actor on someone else's involvement in a crime? I understand an actor accepting or refusing a part on misconduct if a director, either way it is business, not a decision on morality.
I think a lot of people, specifically men, have not been aware of the extent of sexual assault, abuse and harassment in society, but with the #MeToo movement coming about, and people being more open and honest about these kinds of things, the world has taken a step back and started to self reflect and have conversations with each other about how to fix this. Honestly, I like Timmy but considering he's lived a pretty privileged life in terms of his race, gender, financial situation, I don't think he's ever taken the time really think about how his actions can contribute to the state of society. For example, I used to meat and buy products that had been tested on animals, at the time I knew there was controversy but never took the time to sit down and really think about my actions, my life is now so different because I understand more about the issues at hand. I think he was pretty ignorant (as are many others are) to the extent of the situation, and I'm glad he's taking steps to learn, understand, and attempt to make up for his decisions.
So then is everyone who has ever worked with a predator also a bad, inconsiderate, selfish person? This is getting ridiculous. I understand we do not want to support sexual predators and should choose not to work with them. However, why each individual chooses to take a JOB is personal to him or her. Do we have to ask EVERYONE who has EVER worked with Allen to explain/defend themselves? I guess the press wants to publicly shame them for working with the likes of Allen, Weinstein, etc.
Besides, people who worked with WA did NOT evidently work with a predator. Someone is guilty of a crime when it has been proven beyond doubt. WA was not even charged with that crime, because after the allegation was investigated thoroughly by multiple parties, the prosecutor did not find enough ground for a formal charge and did not prosecute. It is irrational and inhumane to start a social outcasting process on people only based on 'beliefs' that they are guilty, or based on the severity of the crime from which he was acquitted.
I'm so proud of Timothée's statement and I just hope Selena Gomez does the same her mom had advice her Not to work for woody Allen but she still did it :/ she is so immature!
She never will. Selena Gomez is one of those stars who, much like Taylor Swift, somehow benefits from the current status of female empowerment, all while being the complete opposite of a feminist. Selena and Taylor are high and dry, VERY comfortable in their extreme success. Selena's blunder around the Black Lives Matter movement was embarrassing, but she showed her true colors (which is that she could not care less about current REAL issues) (which is probably also why she deleted the tweet - bad PR). When directly confronted about working with Woody Allen, all she had to say was that she didn't really how to respond to it, said that she wasn't trying to back away from it, but then did exactly that by dodging the question and giving a non-answer. Her previous manager literally said her entire team advised her against working with him, but it fell on deaf ears. Her own mother has publicly criticized her, so I think that says enough about what a bratty diva she really is. She cares about money, and that's it. She had ALL the information about Woody Allen, was advized against working with him by multiple people, and still went ahead and did it.
Does the fact Woody Allen was never charged and found guilty mean anything in this case. If you're going to have a go at Selena Gomez at least have a go at every actor that's worked with Woody Allen since 1992 or even more so every actor that's worked with Roman Polanski since 1977. It's possible for a person to be accused of a crime and to not have actually committed it. If Selena Gomez chooses to work with Woody Allen that's her choice and her choice alone. She's being a lot less hypocritical than those who have worked with him and then immediately acted as if they never heard of the allegations made in 1992. No one in the media gave a shit about Dylan Farrow four years ago when she complained about Woody getting the Cecil B DeMille award at the Globes but now because they assume that Weinstein is guilty this must mean all people accused must also be guilty despite it being a different person and a different set of circumstances. People who worked with Woody and are now distancing themselves from their collaboration with him are just trying to make themselves look like they're taking the high moral ground. It's complete cowardice and hypocrisy. If you thought Woody wasn't a child molester before you worked with him why would you suddenly change your mind afterwards. There's been no new evidence presented since 1993 so if the law say's he's innocent why would the film industry be any more knowledgeable about the case than the relevant legal authorities?
even if he was never found guilty, just look into how his current wife became his wife. It's all creepy and gross. If I didn't see you eat the donut but there's chocolate all over your mouth and a missing donut. We can all safely conclude that you ate the donut. You'd make a great lawyer btw. I just empathize more for the victims than the abusers. Sometimes a lack of concrete evidence isn't enough to ignore a crime. How many abusers have gotten away with their abuse towards others. There's a reason why victims won't speak, let alone a child victim. Ant that's what Dylan Farrow was. An innocent victim. Woody Allen can deny it all he wants, but in the end he stilled married his ex-wife's daughter. And that speaks volumes to his character, even with a lack of evidence.
If you don't have concrete evidence you don't have a case. Marrying your ex wives daughter doesn't automatically mean you abused your seven year old daughter however much a person would wish to believe it does. I'm not saying Woody Allen didn't do the crime but if you're basing someone's guilt on an assumption you have an unsafe conviction in a lot of cases. A person could make an assumption that Mia Farrow coached a seven year old Dylan into making a false allegation as Moses Farrow believes but that also probably wouldn't stand up in court without concrete evidence. I would accept that Woody and Soon-Yi acted in a pretty horrific way in the sense they broke up a family and permanently damaged the family unit but I would remain in doubt about the original allegations especially with regard as to when the abuse is alleged to have began, namely after Woody had left Mia for Soon-Yi and not before then.
Timothee’s first answer was key. Without overwhelming evidence we should presume innocence. But our everyday interactions must involve using the power we have responsibly, and in service of those with less. Including naming harm when it is witnessed, intervening when necessary, offering support, or one’s role as an ally. Directly confronting and escalating severe situations, but mostly, educating and facilitating better understanding.
Okk Woody was once accused of molestation that's a bad side of his character but this does not change the fact that he's a legendary director who takes the best out of the actors working in his films.. (note:- I'm not talking about Scarlett Johansson)
Woody Allen was NEVER accused of molestation. The one and only allegation ever made was dropped after several investigations yielded the conclusion that he never molested anyone. The allegation did not make it into an accusation, or charge.
Bullshit answer from Tim, I like him but he bottled the answer and like so many actors put money over morals. Hope he’s learned from this and Doesn’t work with another abuser
New normal: accused = guilty, even if the mattter has been investigated professionally, litigated in the courts, and zero evidence has surfaced to corroborate the allegation. That is scary. People reflexively believe the accuser for two reasons: (1) they want to show support for victims; and (2) they cannot imagine why someone would make up a false accusation. Both are honest instincts, but the truth is, a certain percentage of accusations are false or inaccurate for all kinds of reasons. Real abusers should be buried under the prison, but people need to care more about evidence instead of jumping to conlcusions.
Thank you, CNN, but please in respect to the actors involve, let's give Timothee and Armie, especially the Director Guadagnino, the chance to JUST TALKS about their movie "CMBYN" and that goes with all the other interviewer, the movie (CMBYN) has attracted good (mostly rather) and bad review, because it has that intriguing love story, otherwise you wouldn't waste your time having this two amazing actor in front of you being interviewed with one of your best-awarded lady in your company.
