When the Amaran oroginally came out it was noisy and a few other issues. Aputure listened to reviewers and updated the light's internals while keeping the COB LED the same. The new Amaran 200d S is a mark II that features all the same internals of the v1.1 but makes use of two colors of blue to help increase its CRI, SSI, etc. Both are aweaome lights but definitely worth the extra $50 or so on the S version as it's a noticeable improvement (honestly, it looks better than some of the actual Aputure lights I've used and the plastic case is no biggie if not abused).
Replace cheap plastic handle with a good metal one that fits, I used the handle from an old impact reflector holder I had laying around. Looks better, functions better.
Your unit probably shipped with the latest firmware which fixed the fan issue Very informative video! Trying to make a choice between the 200x and smallrig rc120b. Leaning towards the smallrig one because of a carrying case and a way cheaper option for powering by battery since I want to shoot outside
I got the 100x and like it a lot! Though I think I may need to go brighter, so might retire that from my key to a hair/rim light, and get a 200d/x as a key. Not sure if I really *need* adjustable temperature but I try to cover as many bases as possible when I buy things.
Something I should have mentioned is the same daylight balanced light in a bi-color config is going to be less brightness so if you're going for a serious boost I'd go daylight, but that's just me. Which softbox are you using?
@@SamuelJamesVideos I decided to go for the LightDome II, seemed like the best option and hopefully will last forever. And yeah I didn’t think I needed the extra brightness at first but the soft box does cut it down by a lot. May get the 200d myself.
