Tony Christie could sing any song on a Radio Show every Saturday morning back in the sixties. There were two other singers with Tony - Laura Lee and Danny Street, and you had to phone in requesting your favourite song and one of them would sing it. Brian Matthew was the DJ presenter and the show was Easy Beat. It was everybody's favourite then, and I'm certain most older generation will remember it.
I love Tony Christie singing this song, but my husband doesn't like it, so I can only play it here on RU-vid when he is not around. lalalalalala BRILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For God's sake, people...its a love song. It happens to be liked all over the globe. Leave whatever politics that drive you out of it and just enjoy the music.
ahh.. it reminds me of the summer in 2007 in Golden Sands in Bulgaria with my x girlfriend. this song was played many times in the karooke places:) the best summer ever :)
I remember seeing Tony Christie on his first TV appearance (Des O'Connor Show or similar) Great voice and some great singles. Shame he NEVER seemed to credit Neil Sedaka but keeps referring to it as HIS song...

I understand he has and he has also been made a Freeman of the City! Thanks to people like me pestering the city of Amarillo to thank this guy for putting a down and out American city on the world map!
lol! My parents were talking to some Brits in Mexico one time, & when they told the Brits they were from Amarillo, they were all like, "You're from Amarillo? Oh my God! What is it like down there?" My parents respnded, "Um...It's dry, windy, & flat with no trees." and the Brits are all like, "What?"

You've got to be kidding me!!! Vegas showgirls!!! (I'm from Vegas) Totally detracts from the great execution of the song. Jeez, I'm so tired of these shows that think they have to supplement a great song with such cheezy "eye candy."
there's no reason to say how you hold european culture. most would take this as an insult even though you may not mean it that way. don't tell people their values and culture are worthless. i'm from dallas, but they've been around a lot longer than our culture.
