Amaryllis season is sadly over. But that doesn't mean just chuck your bulbs in the trash! In this video I outline how to care for you Amaryllis bulbs in the off season so that you can give them what they need to produce flowers again the following winter season.
These lovely house plants should be found in every home. They're stunning and with just a little care you can have them flower year after year. This video is full of tips for your Amaryllis success.

Actually I livein the SF Bay area, Where our climate seems to be very different than most of the country. I maintain four big pots with multiple amaryllis bulbs in each of Them, they just go dormant on their own and bloom when they are ready. In this climate, I get lots of gorgeous blooms from the end of April through the beginning of June -people can see my porch from a block away!

Do you just leave them in their pots forever? I would think they would become root bound. How do I know if or when they might need a bigger pot?
@plantvibrations
@plantvibrations Год назад
Yes every three years you can pot them up to the next size and give them new soil

Mine has bloomed every Easter. I thought it was a lily til I was corrected this year. This year 4 blooms. After the petals fall off, are those new bulbs at the top? I am moving and was hoping I could take the tops and plant them. Would that work? (Southern california)

Wonderful video reinforces what I have done for years. Now what do I do with bulbs proliferating in containers? Can/should they be separated or just left happily snuggling with 6-8 in a container? Thanks1

another "Blast From the Past" timely video :) I once gave a Beautiful Dark Red Amaryllis (in spike) to an Elderly neighbor. When asked later in the Summer how it was doing... she said she threw it away after flowering thinking it was dying.

SO, I just checked under the box (to make it dark) and my amarylis has grown 2 very pale leaves. What should I do now please? I planted it on New Year's Day 2022 and had some lovely blooms but why these very pale leaves now?? BUT I did not feed it at all since planting it!!!
@plantvibrations
@plantvibrations Год назад
Totally normal. When you’re ready to take them out of dormancy just cut those leaves off!

I don't agree with you about removing the stem while the flower is still alive, each flower has what looks like a little bulb at the end, that is a seed pod. Just leave the plant alone until the seed pods dry out and open. Then cut the seed pods off first then remove the stem. Hope this helps. I've have several Amaryllis plants and have been raising them for over 10 years.

Why allow a seed pod ? It uses all the plants energy, when it should be devoting that energy to leaf production/future flowers.
