Thanks for this. I've been thinking of trying linux on a spare PC for my FT8. 73, K8JLW

Another great vid! I've been running a FT8 monitor station with an RPi4 and it worked great. Also, shout out to Chocolatey, the Windows package manager! Quite a few ham tools on that too.

I have a 15 year old laptop from my brother in law given to me for free. I put linux mint on it, got SDR++ and im on my way. Definitely easy to install and get up and running for receiving.

Great vid! I’m running ArcoLinux (Arch based) in my shack. I’m almost to the point of dumping Windows all together. My only complaint is that Debian repositories are very dated. I understand it’s for stability reasons but still frustrating. I would love to go to a Debian based distro after a few more update cycles. I do FT8, SSTV, VHF/UHF satellite, SDR listening and some packet radio. My software lineup is very close to what you mentioned in the video. My computer also controls a number of SDRs and my FT991A. Performance on a 12 year old desktop rivals my custom built upper end Windows 11 PC. Thanks for you effort in making a well thought out and produced product! 73 Alan/KG9PN

Thank you for actually giving Slackware some credit by actually showing in the beginning that it exists. So many videos about Linux act as if it doesn't exist. Will the Windows programs work under Wine?

I would like to have wsjt-x in Android! So I can easily decode out in the field. I use a raspberry pi with hampi image but if I connect my usb audio card the radio fills up with noise.

Thank you. I am pleased for your clear, unhurried delivery style. I've loaded Ubuntu 20.04 and from this tutiorial learned that JS8Call was available in software that came with the programme. None of the serial port options in JS8Call allows my HP Elitebook and my Icomm 7300 to communicate; I get a 'HamLib' I/O error while opening connection to rig. If you can direct me to how I might remedy this I'd be grateful. Robert - ZL2JED

You need to add permission for your user to access serial ports under linux. On Ubuntu you should add your user to the group 'dialout'.
