From my perspective, I think the real meaning of this song is actually not only about motivation or love. It is about the real nature of human being and how should we see ourself and the world. Amazarashi is neither a pessimist nor an optimist. They see the world as it is. They are a realist. This song tells a story about a young man who is really into painting. Even though as we all know, he is a starter in the art industry. No one knows him and his painting doesn't have any impact at all, but still, his girlfriend supports him. From the beginning of the lyrics (if you're curious, some people post it on the comment, scroll down and you can find it), we know that the inspiration of his painting is actually his true self. Ever since he was little, he paints a world that would surround and capture him. He likes painting that was because everyone praised him for it but now, the only one who praises him is his girlfriend. The reason his girlfriends fall in love with him is because of his view on the world. No one knows him, no one acknowledges him and yet he manage to see and believe in a world where people hold hands and support each other. As time passes, his painting starts making sales. More and more people recognize and acknowledge him. And of course, he becomes even more motivated. As always, the inspiration of his painting is his true self. The conclusion of human being that he is trying to find through painting and the conclusion that he takes is made into his next masterpiece. He is going to publish a painting about the dark and horrible side of human being. After he published it, people start getting angry and ridiculed by his painting including his girlfriend. From the public perspective, humans don't like to admit their monster inside. It is an insult for them saying that human is such a monstrous creature. That's why the public is angry and hate his painting. But the person who is truly disappointed by him is his girlfriend. She supports him from the beginning of his journey. And yet the world that he see is a world that only shows human bad side. It's like all her kindness, support, encouragement is not part of his world. So she chooses to leave him. (Of course, all of this is a metaphor). All of those events pass. He continues to paint by himself. But this time, it is different. He paints with an empty heart. Not knowing what he is painting and for what reason. Eventually, he realizes that human and the world is not only about cruelty, brutality, and violence. He forgets the world that he used to believe because of the pain and frustration of his early career. And the most fatal mistake is that he forgets that he has a girlfriend who always supports him regardless of the situation. He simply abandons that and concludes that the world and human being is horrible. While the reality is, human is not only capable of horrible thing, human also capable of great love and cooperation. He starts painting again with this new belief in his heart. As time passes, his painting is sold for the first time. And the buyer sends him a letter, saying "I was right to have believed in you". This is definitely from his girlfriend. That's the end of the song. We are always taught to be an optimist and denying that there is this beast living inside us. But without acknowledging our horrible part, we end up lying to ourself. Without knowing our dark side, we could never change our bad habit and behavior. In the other hand, believing that we are just a monster in disguise is also not true. The fact that a mother willing to sacrifice her life for her children is real. In the process of protecting her child, she might be willing to kill if that is the only option for her. Cruelty and love is like the two sides of the same coin. They are different, yet they can't be separated. The meaning of this song is to acknowledge our dark side, learn how to overcome it and strive for our bright side. Enduring misfortune while trying to find a way out of hardship. Because what makes this life worth is the happiness that we feel while enduring pain and frustration. I think that's the message that amazarashi wants to deliver through this very beautiful song. If you read this comment and you agree with this version of meaning. Maybe you can share this song to your friend and tell them the meaning. I think this song is too important to be missed by many.
@@yuyu-ou1vj hi, sorry for not replying for quite a long time. I think my favorite is still amazarashi. Their song is the only one that makes me burst in tear lol. I like most of amazarashi's song but some of them really impact my way of thinking and my life. "Kiseki", "Philosophy","Mou Ichido", and "Tsujitsuma Awaseni Umareta Bokura" those four songs means a lot to me. It shapes a lot of my decision making and my own philosophy about life. How about you?
Very nice interpretation. Though I have to disagree with your take on the girlfriend. When he painted the “bad side of humanity” it says that she complimented his art, saying it was wonderful. She left him because they started fighting more often after the public criticized the painting. The artist was the one who changed due to the fame, I think, and she could not love the man he had become. The lyrics repeat “What changes is always the scenery.” I’m still trying to figure out what Amazarashi truly means by this, but I feel like it’s the morale of the song.
The first time I watched this MV was when I'm still in middle school. That time, I thought this song was so beautiful, and the animation it's just amazed me so much. After many years passed by, I suddenly remembered this song because of my lack of interest in art (I feel like I don't have any reason to pursue art again). Art used to be everything to me, and now it's all gone. I barely have any motivation to hold my paint brush again. After I watched this MV, I was trembling, and my tears just flowed like a river. I relate to this so much. I miss my passion in art. I miss when I hear this song simply just because I thought that was masterpieces, not because I can feel the lyrics.
