The Victorian
Sitting on 112 acres, the original farm property dates back to the mid to late 19th century. While the Victorian house itself and original barn were built in the early 1900s.
The home had two towers, one on the front of the building and one on the west side of the house. During a time of neglect, the west side tower had began to pull away from the house and had to be removed. The owners at the time also removed all of the brick and added siding as a replacement.
In the early 1930s, the original barn burnt to the ground in a devastating fire. The owner at the time was later charged with arson. He thought that if the barn burned down, he could use the proceeds from the insurance claim to pay off the mortgage. A replacement barn was built years later and still sits on the property to this day.
Several years ago the property was sold to a development company and the buildings have sat abandoned and decaying ever since.
Unfortunately, the house is not protected under the heritage act and it will almost certainly be demolished in the future when the land is redeveloped.

Hey James, Wouldn't it be cool to live in a house like this that has been completely restored to it's original condition .. wow ! Another fun explore ....

The staircases were so so beautiful. The little alcove with the bay window was cool. I can’t imagine what this house was like in its prime. The updates they did seemed poorly planned and not in keeping with the aesthetic of the home. It would be so amazing to have the wealth and the knowledge to be able to lovingly restore this home to its original finery. Too many are lost. Will there be no examples of history left standing for others to appreciate soon. Thank you for sharing James!

What I love about your videos is how you appreciate and film the architectural details in the house. Other Urbexers just focus on the stuff in the house. This house was amazing. So sad that it is left to rot.

The front door was absolutely beautiful! Such amazing detail on all the trim work throughout the house. I hope you were able to clean the mud off your boots before you got back in your car. They were pretty caked. Lol Thank you for documenting and sharing this amazing piece of history. We always look forward to seeing where your adventures will take you next. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride. You rock! 👍

I would have loved to see this home back in the day! The moment they decided to replace the brick with siding it all went downhill!! They tried to modernize bits and pieces of it, instead of enhancing all of the beauty that was already there. Your old picture of that banister was beautiful. Such a shame to see it in that condition.
@StaticSpaces

At one time this was a amazingly beautiful home! It became popular in , I think it was, the 50’s to paint gorgeous natural woodwork white. Then came removal of ceiling light fixtures, leaving only the plaster medallions, in favor of area lamps. The insults to this house continued with a remodel using modern ceiling fans, shower doors and garish bright colors. Additionally the kitchen floor was probably covered with a indoor/outdoor carpet - that would explain the wood put down over linoleum. I bet under the linoleum is oak flooring. It is both a pleasure and a sorrow to view such things, no? Especially when we know it will not be redeemed. New sub here. I enjoyed your tour style. Thank you!
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 5 месяцев назад
Well, the wall paint I can live with since that can always be easily changed but painting over stained wood or putting linoleum or laminate over hardwood is just kind of ridiculous. But again if the original floor is still there underneath, then it's not a huge deal either. Really glad you enjoyed the video and hope to hear your thoughts again in the future!!

Really enjoyed this one! The wood lathe ceilings, scrollwork mouldings and sconces were amazing. The mud room was so classic for a farm and the kitchen amazing. The heat vents to the upper floors were very impressive and so classic for the wood heating system of the day! Thanks for diarizing these older beautiful homes! They are now saved in there own way for posterity.

Hi James! These farm houses are definitely my favourite type of explore to watch. I’m sure I comment that every time you upload a place like this, but I really do, especially when there are so many original features like this. Really bugs me though when people attempt to renovate and do a really crap and cheap diy job and then up and leave. Weird layout in some areas. All of the features that are original are the best bits. Thank you for the video!

Ya, I mean I understand, renos are expensive but it begs the question, why would you move into such a nice house if you couldn't afford it. I mean, maybe it was the company that owns it and they were renting it out. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks very much for your comment!!

Loved the huge kitchen! Also loved the staircases! Beautiful craftsmanship! I thought the orange room was wild but that Pepto Bismol pink was atrocious! I usually like color but that was too much! I’m sure the house was exquisite back in its heyday! What a shame that it is gonna be demolished! Love that you appreciate the intricacies of the staircase! Not many appreciate the workmanship of those woodworkers.

Beautiful home. I am beginning to think these so called "Developers" are really buying up these beautiful places, farms ect, so no one can purchase these pieces of land and restore these beautiful historic homes. How many have we seen, that have been bought by developers and nothing is ever built in a lot of these farmsteads, they are left to rot and no one can buy these places and restore them.
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 7 месяцев назад
Well part of it is they buy in an underdeveloped area at low cost in the hopes that one day it will be a much larger profit. They are a business just like any other. Either way though, a house as nice as this one, should definitely be saved. Thank you very much for your comment!!

Hi James, hope you had a nice Boxing Day. The wood work is nice. The back story of the man catching the barn on fire was interesting. He wanted to try and rescue the property. I know how much you appreciate a good stair case it is a shame the mindless damage someone did to the banister . Do they have a wasp nest or was it bees ? I hate wasp. They are mean hateful buggers. The widows walk I think? I was asking that myself. Can you imagine this home in all her glory when the wood work, and floors were polished and shine, 28:43 bet it was beautiful. I wished the tub had been a soaking tub with feet. Thank you James for showing us this muddy but interesting property!
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 7 месяцев назад
I am 99% sure they were bees. So there probably was/is a very large bees nest in the walls somewhere. Yes, I looked it up while editing the video and it is known as a widows walk/watch. Although from what I learned it doesn't fit the original definition of the term but moreso the modern updated one. That's the only thing this place was missing, a claw foot tub! Thanks very much for your comment Cee Cee!!

Yeah, those high baseboards were actually common in the big old mansions. Those....renovations and... improvements, lol?I used to sell real estate, and we always put in the property listings, "quality improvements," because many homeowners' ideas of improvements were often GHASTLY.

James, I appreciate you showcasing all the great molding and those amazing baseboards. I hope you got all that clay/mud off your boots. Did you film in the barn? I was just curious to know if there were any "treasures" in there. Also, with all those dead bees, I would bet my last loonie that there were hives throughout the interior of the walls. 😀🐝
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 7 месяцев назад
So, I did find the barn but the footage was old and extremely shaky, so I decided not to include it. It was pretty much empty anyway but I did get that one photo included in the video. Took a bit of cleaning but I did get the mud off, yes. I think you are right about the hives too, I was thinking the same thing when editing the video. They were honey bees too as far as I could tell. Thank you very much for your comment!!
