If you're craving authentic Chicago deep dish pizza in NYC, check out Emmett's Pizza in the West Village, New York NY!. Emmett's makes amazing Chicago style pizza, as well as Chicago hot dogs, and homemade mozzarella sticks. While everyone loves Chicago style hot dogs, a lot of people don't respect Chicago style deep dish pizza in New York. They think it shouldn't count as pizza and is more like a pie or a casserole. I used to be in this camp until I ate at Giordano's and Lou Malnati's in Chicago and I realized how great this style of pizza can be! Please don't knock it until you try it. Whether you think it should be considered pizza or not, it tastes delicious and that's all I care about end of day.
So next time you're looking for great pizza in NYC, you're looking for great restaurants in the West Village or great restaurants in Soho or great eats in Greenwich Village, swing by Emmett's pizza! It's definitely on my list of great eats in New York City!

I'm born/raised in Illinois/Chicago and I'm pickin up what this N.Y. cat is layin' down. The Chicago Deep Dish is a heavy mess. I never had actual N.Y. pizza. I'd love to try, and New Haven, too...looks awesome!!! For great pizza, go thin and win! Coal fired a big plus!

Lou MALNOTIES is really good . Bottom is all a sausage layer then you get the cheese and sauce . Ask for extra sauce on top and you will love it. I like all pizza and there’s is good . Being from Chicago Area and born there I know we have the best food in the world here .

Hi, I want to understand something: did they make you order a pizza with two flavours? I understood that half the pizza was Meat Lovers flavour, the other half was cheese, what's it called? @@NYCOPERAFAN Hard to believe. Some chains are really hard to beat. David’s cookies was one of them. I just don’t think I ever like any Chicago more than unos nor do I think anyone can outdo unos when it comes to deep dish. Just as I feel no one will ever top David’s cookies.

@@Ben-bs4od I've linved in Chicago (for 11 years) and New York for 18 and have eaten at both many times (as well as Gino's East, Lou Malnati's, Pequoud, Connies, Giordano's etc.) and Emmet's is VASTLY superior to Uno's (and most though not all of the Chicago places I mention). Uno's is to Chicago Pizza what Macdonald's is to hamburgers.

@@NYCOPERAFAN I will take your word for it. Most Chicago pizza tastes like nasty cornbread with cheese and sauce or some type of semolina dough or pasty mealy concoction. I actually don’t ever eat Chicago pizza anymore for this reason. I rank most below the big chains like dominoes. Well below any and Nj coal fired thin crispy pizza. I am in the Dave portnoy club when it comes to anything but New Haven or thin crispy ny style. The best neopolitsn would be a six of ten. The best Chicago that isn’t unos would be a six of ten. And the best ny would be a nine of ten. But for me on a certain day when I want the taste of croissant pizza Unos does it for me. In the same way I have never made any homemade recipe better than David’s cookies stores. I think unos transcends fast food chains like dominoes and little Caesar’s. For me it is a unique deliscious soft pillowy buttery croissant like experience much like eating fried dough creations in a street fare. And chain or not I would probably only go to one of your suggestions that had that same buttery soft crust. If it is doughy or mealy or thick and heavy I couldn’t eat it. What is the most like Unos of the ones you mention. Is there an online recipe for Unos dough I wonder. If you have ever had frozen Chicago pizza you know how bad that style can get.

I agree. There are some really impressive hotdogs in New York if you search around. My personal favorite is the hotdog from Katz deli and it’s their own in house brand……..Chicago also has great hotdogs too if you snoop around the city. The hotdog from Wrigleyville Dog near Wrigley Field is excellent too.

Deep dish pizza can be good but the reality is that most Chicago people actually do not like deep dish pizza or not enthusiastic about it. Most people don’t know this but thin crust pizza or thinner crust also exists in Chicago too and locals gravitate to that more.

No. Just- no. I’ve tried eating Emmits after a coworker who’s from Wisconsin raved how great it was- it’s basura. It’s just way too much stuff, it doesn’t even taste like pizza. It really should be called something else. I guess this must be a midwestern taste thing that you have to grow up with. And the hot dog thing - again with all the stuff on it- just get a side salad & eat a hot dog the way the it was intended: mustard.
