@@zhinka1 Who told you that? They care for their injured and weakest members of their herd. They even mourn the loss of their kind. Haven't you heard or read of several Indian news reports of elephant herds meeting a grisly accidents on train tracks? That's because the young gets scared of incoming trains honks and stand paralyzed with fear and the whole herd try to save that one elephant becoming the collateral damage of the accident.

@@zhinka1 I spent some time with a grad student doing her PhD work on behavioral aspects of Asian elephants. Why do you ask? Also, I'm always disappointed that whenever elephants are talked about, everyone assumes it's African elephants. Asian elephants are also endangered and are as majestic as their African counterpart.
