Yeah, most of these facts content creators always mix up “Malay” and “Malaysian”. Malaysian is the nationality, Malay is a race. So at 0:50 the correct sentence should be “…all Malays are Muslim” but he said “…all Malaysians are Muslim” (which is totally incorrect) and at 0:56 he should’ve said “Malays are not allowed to change or abandon their faith…” but again he used the word “Malaysian” (which already is a big incorrect fact!) Also the non-Muslim “residents” he referred to, well we are all simply known as Malaysians (we only refer to non-citizens as residents). 😅 No wonder so many tourists new to Malaysia usually have so many misunderstandings about Malaysia 😅 Hope this admin sees our comments and corrects his own misunderstandings. Anyways, these are most of the religions practiced in Malaysia: 1) Islam (majority) 2) Buddhism 3) Christianity 4) Hinduism 5) Confucianism 6) Taoism 7) Sikhism 8) Animism (paganism) (indigenous tribal beliefs)

Not all Malays are born Muslims. There is a small but significant number of Buddhist Malays along the Thai border specifically in Kedah and Kelantan. I didn't know they existed until I met my boss's wife (my boss at that time was Swiss) and her family. Most people are aware of Hindu Malays in Indonesia especially in Bali but few people know that there are non-Muslim Malays in Malaysia as well.

​@@slebetman then these people are simply known as bumiputra. Our constitution is very clear on that. If you are not muslim, you can't be malay. Can't say the same for indonesia. But are you sure they are malay? In indonesia malay is just an ethnic group, not a race. Unlike malaysia, they dont consider jawa, bugis, etc as malay.

If there is freedom of religion in Malaysia then why are Malays constitutionally required to be Muslims? It would seem that Malays do not have freedom of religion.

It definitely reflects Malaysia's past history. The Malay Archipelago have accepted people from different continents since hundreds of years ago. They came, got married and assimilated with the Malay culture. And of course most embraced Islam. It is just that with the establishment of Malaysia, they just made it official. Someone that practices Islam, speaks Malay & embodies the Malay culture.

I prefer Bumiputra land, because indigenous people of Sabah and Sarawak are not etnically Malay. You should use "Malay land" only on peninsular Malaysia. When you use term Malaysia, Bumiputra Land is a correct term.

Malaysia comes from the combination of the word 'Malays' and 'ia'.... which 'ia' means the land. So Malaysia is 'the land of Malays' and previously known as Tanah Melayu. Other countries and have similar 'ia' at the end is like Tunisia, Algeria, etc

And did u know how difficult for Malays to work in some companies where u have to know certain language imposed to be employed.

I don't know why lately, everyone try to be so religion centric. During the 80's/90's, it was just Malay, Chinese and Indian. Malays lifestyle is very different from the typical muslims also that are so conservative - Malaysia is in Asia man. You think Malay, you think ketupat, kebaya, joget, sheila majid and satay. Chinese and Indians stood to their inherent original culture/lifestyle like last time.

The Malays in Srivijaya and Malacca empire are strict and upheld religious identity. Buddhist in the time of Srivijaya and Muslims in time of Malacca. The Malays you see after British empire left are mostly Malays coming from Indonesia. Many of religious Malays had been killed by British and Communist.
