Not sure whether you guys have been to Pahang and Terengganu, but you should try them if you haven't. They are quite under rated as compared to KL, Penang, and even Borneo. Both have the longest stretch of beach in Malaysia and perhaps some of the most stunning ones too. And the plus side is, not many people hangout on some part of the beaches. But be cautious and don't swim in Terengganu because the steep shores have claimed many innocent lives. However, you can find beautiful islands with pristine beaches that you can swim, snorkel, scuba diving and even just relax (sunbathing) in Terengganu such as Pulau Redang, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Kapas, and Pulau Lang Tengah (pulau literally means island). But if you are short of time, you can swim straight away in Cherating beach which is located in Pahang. The ambience in these Eastern Coasts of Peninsular Malaysia can be so laid back and you can experience the "Kampung" (village/country side) hospitality if you try your best to mix around with the locals. And if you guys happened to have more time, try to visit Kelantan state as well to complete your East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia trip. Hope you guys will be back to Malaysia when this pandemic ends.

Strangely enough, by Western scientists adding the suffix "sia" after the word "Malay" (I just Googled it), they might have accidentally stumbled on the original meaning of the name Malay via the Samoan culture. On the Island of Savai'i in Samoa, there exists the oldest monumental structure in the South Pacific called "Pulemelei". It's a pyramid or mound made out of rocks. When curious foreigners ask the locals about its meaning some reply that long ago the mound was used as a platform for catching birds, likely reasoning this because they are associating the Samoan word for Trap/Snare "Mailei" with the "Melei" in Pulemelei. But I think Masaman's connection between the Tamil word for mountain "Malai Ur" and the word "Malay" lies behind the name and meaning of the word Pulemelei. Pule in Samoan means Chief or Leader, so if Melei really means Mountain/Hill, then Pulemelei would mean "Mountain of the Chief".

Or the word Pulemelei could mean Chief Mountain, or Supreme Mountain/Hill instead.

The oldest living human in Malaysia is "Perak Man" who are 11,000 years old. Malaysian government even give him identification card. He is of "Australomelanesoid" race.

Hello Mohd, i am from the Philippines and i was just curious about the lessons being taught to you there in Malaysia about the origins of Malays and Bumiputera people. Here in the Philippines, children are being taught a theory that various waves of Malays and Indonesians migrated to present-day Philippines and thus became the ancestors of Filipinos. The author of that theory was Otley Beyer, an American professor who migrated to the Philippines during the 18th century and thus many Filipinos believe that we are considered "Malay". However, thanks to the works of William Henry Scott and recent, more accurate research findings, Beyer's theory was rejected and the Austronesian "Out of Taiwan" theory became more accepted. Unfortunately, despite many accurate proof of the Austronesian theory, many Filipinos cannot let go of the Otley Beyer theory and still refer to themselves as "Malay/Malayan".

​@@datukrajo1807 May I know how old are those Kedukans? I'm a Malaysian Malay and from my reading and understanding, not all Malays are originated from the Sumatera region. In fact, some of the oldest Malay kingdoms in Tanah Melayu, such as the "Kedah Tua", "Gangga Negara", "Chih Tu" and "Pan Pan" emerged as early as 2nd Century. And there have been some population of the Malay people in Tanah Melayu even before the rise of those kingdoms which I have mentioned earlier. You can check about "Tamadun Sungai Batu" articles, which sometimes can be very "highly heated" with claims from some Malaysian Indian (Tamil people trying to claim) that their ancestors are the ones who built those historical places, which of course is nonsense (Lol). In Tanah Melayu (Peninsular Malaysia), there are actually three types or categories of Malay people, but the majority of us here are not aware of this because we simply don't care much about it and it is not in our Constitution. Only those who are keen enough to study or read the history of Malaysia and its people will know it. The three types are: 1. Melayu Jati/Asal = These are the Malays which are the descendants from the old kingdoms which I have explained earlier (modern day Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan & Terengganu). 2. Melayu Dagang = These are the Malays of which their ancestors originated from Sumatera and its nearby islands. The majority of their descendants live in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and could also be found in Johor, Pahang and Perak as well. 3. Melayu Peranakan = These are the Malays of which their ancestors have mixed marriage between the Melayu Jati or Melayu Dagang with foreign settlers or traders which the majority of them originated from the India Muslim traders. I once had a discussion with a Filipino that believes that he's Malay and I told him that we're not ethnic Malays and different from the Malays from Malaysia and parts of Indonesia and he started attacking me for being a Filipino-Canadian thus not a true Filipino. The "Malay Race" was introduced by Otley Beyer and because the term "Austronesian" during his time was not in use, he chose "Malay" to name the groups of Filipinos, Indonesians, actual Malays and other natives of maritime Southeast Asia. So it would be more accurate to refer to Filipinos as "Austronesian" instead of "Malay race". Also, go to Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Also, Chinese in Singapore and Malaysia are mostly of Southern Chinese stock. I don't know if u notice it, there are a number of Chinese in Singapore and Malaysia who can be mistaken for Malays. Cantonese people today are quite genetically different from Northern Chinese, as they've extensive Tai-Kadai admixture. I've just been to Indonesia, and the ethnic make-up is very interesting. Some look classic "austronesian" while many you can clearly tell they something else as well. A lot of them have more melanesian traits, very atypical of other SE asians, some have more arabic traits as well. It's also very interesting to see that every island is basically its own country culturally, religiously and ethnically.

For example, people will ask where you're from in Bahasa Indonesia. And if you're both from Central Java, then usually you switch to speaking Javanese. I studied a bit of mainland Southeast Asia and ancient Khmer history and I think from the Khmer point of view, the other main kingdom in the region was Indonesian and centered in Java (if I remember correctly). So it would make sense, since Javanese were around at the same time as the other Austria-Asiatic kingdoms. People from eastern Indonesia may be geographically closer to Austronesian and Melanesian cultures.

I agreed with your statement. The early population of Malaysia was from the mainland from Himalayas & Yunan. In the ancient human civilization, also known as Stone Age era (some 3.5 millions year ago), nomad was the way of life. Peoples walked from one place to another to explore new habitats & foods until certain time. After the communities grows bigger, some of them continue to the nomad life to explore new area for food & shelter in the mainland. This process repeated until human reached to new era of civilization where they know how to built raft, small boat & ship. This era started some 65,000 yrs ago according to wiki. I believe during this era people started to explore new area by sea using boats. Some of them prefer to occupied the nearest islands near to the mainland due to easy to find source of water & foods. I believe the Malays from the Malays Archipelago including Sumatra are originated from the mainland.

@@aimanmarzuqi4804 after 350 years we dont use the language anymore. I personally know many words that still remain in our community vernacular. But I dont know the grammar of Bahasa Melayu.

I am already in my mid fifties, but I know that my children would know much less Melayu words than what I do.
