Another amazing castle ruin. I'm glad you went there on a foggy day, the fog gives the place an amazing vibe. Even though the view is limited because of the fog, I still think that the view is awesome. This ruin is so huge, so much to look at.

Thanks! It's one of the most famous castle ruins in France and definitely worth a visit (or two) if you can make it over there ☺️👌

Enchanted by the atmospheric affect created by the choice of music...

The absolutely beautiful music is from Alexander Nakarada, an amazing talent. Check out the description for more info! 😀

On one hand, the fog obstructed the view but on the other hand, it did really add to the mood! Loved this castle, nice and big with lots of stuff intact.

What would your arbitrary, subjective castle score be?

@@TheHistoryHikers Probably about an 8 or 8,5. It was awesome! I can already imagine myself reading in one of those alcoves.

Glad we could be of service! 😀 Thank you for watching! Have you heard of some of the other Cathar castles like Montsegur or Quéribus? We got videos on those as well!

A monumental site with the fog making it seem vaster still. And a seriously mellifluous name to boot !

Totally agree! And mellifluous is a very mellifluous word 😄 (had to look it up first 😁)

I wonder how difficult it would have been to supply this castle and if they would have had a garden or well with such rocky ground. I don't envy the peasants and donkeys who had to haul everything up that mountain.

Tha castle did have cisterns to store water (in case of a siege that is essential for any castle). We found no information of there being a garden up there, there might have been something small 😊. In any case supply would have to happen for plenty other stuff and everybody, even the animals, had to follow the same path we took up the mountain. It's quite remarkable and impressed us even more 👍🏰

Stunning great video, curious how many people would have lived there?

Good question. The usual garrison wouldn't have been larger than 50 soldiers, though the large open area could house an army when necessary. To feed all those people you'd have to drag the supplies up the mountain though!
