If anyone is wondering why the clock gets more time at 10:58, Danya mouseslipped and gave away his queen. His opponent was nice enough to start another game from the same position. Props to him and the editor for making this look seamless!
“Decisions: what do they lead to? They lead to mistakes. They lead to regrets because you start weighing the pros and cons.” Existentialist philosopher Daniel Naroditsky on the banal horrors of everyday life
Danya could easily charge a fee for educational content of this caliber. I will always greatly appreciate his generosity in posting this online for free.
In the early 80's I was a pretty serious club and tournament player as a 1500 C class. Family/Dad life became the replacement and disqualified that lifestyle. I studied books and magazines with no idea how to get good. One time I drew a blitz game with a master by having memorized a great magazine content QGA game. Might have even been the Oregon Chess Federation's magazine? But by once I mean once. All that hopeful work for once. This video, although I still have a half hour left to go, is by far the best coaching I've ever had. Great young man with wonderful communication skills, and a superb teacher. Big fan.
the_chessologist will eternally be proud of how his game against GM will be remembered for eternity on RU-vid as a lesson for everyone else props to you for letting this valuable lesson exist... you already a legend sir.
I think I’ve had maybe 1-2 teachers in my life that display such a vast repertoire of sincere pedagogy that at first glance, could be mistaken for salesmanship or flattery…. but the way you are able to give intermittent quizzes that both explain the concepts, test the concepts critically, while being fun and entertaining - it’s extremely impressive! I don’t know who taught you these methods, if some of them come naturally? But it’s certainly a gift for us! Thank you and your Jedi elders for teaching in such an inspired way!
Nice comment. I imagine his methods come from a lifetime of playing a game that he is passionate about. The way he is describing moves is how Grandmasters think in a fraction of the time it takes to explain them, but his love for the game and passion to pass on his knowledge is how he teaches so effectively.
I started playing chess in a club and had my first official game yesterday. Thanks to your videos I was able to navigate an opening I’ve never really played against and eventually won the game. Just thinking „think like Danya“ helped me a lot. Thanks again, I really appreciate your work!
Absolutely love Danya’s speed runs. Not only do you get insight into how he selects moves in real-time during the match, he always goes the extra mile to share post-match analysis, sidelines, and historical context. Great content, thank you!
I have been a subscriber since Covid first started. After hearing you say hundreds of times "Biting on granite", it was such a pleasure to hear for the first time "Bxc3 breaking the granite".
Man these videos are gold not just for beginners and intermediates but also for advanced players...thanx Danya for providing a quality content for free ..love from india❤❤
I will sub to your channel from 5 different accounts, you’re a very big teacher for me, please continue with this speed run because nobody seems to have the discipline to explain and share authentic chess knowledge in rapid games like you’re doing, i hope you a lot of Success Daniel
Best format for me to learn how chess GMs think like and how to adopt the same way of looking at a position. It's a 15 min rapid game, so quick, but slower than blitz where the teacher cannot simply go into detail on every move. The explanations are really great and clear. Thanks Daniel! Keep it going pls...
Minute 23:00 was very touching, Danya. Here it is, my subscription to your channel :) Thank you for the great content. I'm playing the Jobava in the chess club now. I haven't forked R&Q very often... yet!
"What I will not do is give you a 45 minute overview of the Jobava London"... meanwhile the analysis section is almost exactly 45 mins long, LOL -- and I love it, keep up the amazingly thorough & educational content!
Sorry Dan I took a long time to subscribe...but I liked your honest statement " This is what I do for living." It is very hard to find a person who confesses this so easily. I learnt a lot from your explanations which helped me to improve a lot. I am a 1930 FIDE from India. Thank you.
Brilliant explanation and coverage Daniel, thanks so much for sharing us your thoughts and idea's. Keep up your great work and vids & loving to see a new Speedrun
The best chess content creator, by far! I often feel bad that I can’t reproduce that magic when it’s my turn to play, but obviously not everybody is a skilled GM like Danya.
I always give you a like whenever you upload a new video sensei. This is one of the ways that I say thank you to you for all of this instructive material. I would definitely give a gazillion likes if I could. I wish you reach your 500k subscribes goal by the end of this year. Kudos sensei Danya.
By far the king of teaching chess. I have followed many creators for a long time and there is something extremely special about how daniel explains himself and complex ideas. I would nearly give an arm for some private coaching lol
"something a little more spicy" "gives us a little more to chew on" "this move has a little more meat on the bone" "biting on granite" "let's spice things up a bit" "this is a very tender square" Can someone please get this man a bucket of KFC
at 18:48, it can be argued that Qa5 would benefit black by baiting c4, as white tries to exploit the x-ray from the bishop. The queen could easily retreat back to c7, and as opposed to d6. The end result would be a safer queen behind the knight and the black bishop on g7 is no longer biting on granite.
Does anyone else hear audio glitches periodically, e.g. at 1:34:18? It might be my headphones acting up, but I wanted to make sure it's not Danya's mic. In any case, this was an absolutely amazing game and analysis, probably my favorite speedrun video yet!
Consider the difference between "type I and type II error" vs "false positive and false negative". Discussion (and maybe recall?) is much harder when just labeling kinds with numbers. Whereas, say, 'collinear move' does need to be explained, it's easy to recall once it has been explained. Perhaps "Physical prophylaxis" vs "Effective Prophylaxis" (physically prevent the threat, vs prevent the effect?) would be easier to recall.
Akobian knows more and is able to share knowledge in all aspects of chess. Danya is only good in his attacking chess style and knows the theory for such play but every time he plays the London or any positional opening, he gets outplayed (check the bullet championship where he got crushed every time he tried the London whereas his buddy Bortnyk showcased a much better understanding of that opening and got better positions out of the opening than Danya). I used to think Danya was the best chess teacher as well, but then you realize he is a tactical beast but hates dry positions and it shows in his lack of interest and understanding of them (hence he doesn't even try to play the standard London but instead the Jobava version and hopes to get some tactical shot).
What a perfect end to a good week! Love watching your videos and have learned so much from them. Also my wife loves falling asleep to the sound of Naroditsky chess videos.
I saw f4 during the game and was wondering why you didn’t mention it. Great analysis anyway, probably the best chess instructor on RU-vid, thanks for the free lessons.
Hey danny just want to thank you for really really getting me into chess, I recommend your videos to all of my friends. Thanks for all the brilliant content.
Love your work Danny. Just some encouragement - one of the nicest guys in the chess ether today - full of useful insight and just comes across as such a decent guy away and at the board.
What I enjoy, apart from the stellar commentary and insights, is that your opponent recognized he was playing an extremely talented player and wished to continue the game. I am only 1750 but when I get the opportunity to play against much higher rated players I relish it.
This was another great game! The patience and knowledge to move the King closer and bring him into the game to assist in the Endgame is very great! Something that I have to keep in mind myself.
I’m really not understanding why 500k subscribers is out of reach. This is certainly some of the best educational chess content available on RU-vid. No doubt. There are accounts with far more subscribers offering FAR less value.
You say you don't understand why 500k subscribers is out of reach, but I see it very differently: to me, I don't comprehend why half a million subscribers is beyond attaining. But while I vehemently disagree with you, I (sort of) respect your right to your opinion, and I don't (necessarily) consider you a foe.
