AMAZING HARVEST 2023 !!!

Harvest 2023 is now in the books. After over 4 months with no measurable rainfall, the bleak harvest outlook has been put to rest. Harvest, inspite of the cards stacked against farmers here in drought stricken northeast Iowa, has done pretty well.
Both the oats and the hay crops were pretty poor this year. The beans did well on our other place over south now us. Here at home, not so much.
Glad that you could join us for harvest 2023. Pull up a chair and ride along with Matt in the cab of the Gleaner combine as he gobbles up the corn fields.
Slide in with Jay as he hauls his crops to town.
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel and give the video a thumbs up.
Thanks for watching.

Hi Gary! It’s fun to see all the different equipment that is used to harvest. You see so many of the new big combines it’s cool to see an older one in use. That was a fun watch!

Man, that Gleaner is a beast. Nice truck too. I’d have to sell a lot more small grain to justify gear like that. Great video. I just love watching a combine eat corn. We had corn and beans on the farm where I grew up and I still remember the smell of dry corn and the hum of diesels and grain dryers.

@@tractortalkwithgary1271 it seems my other comment got removed. I mentioned that we move 20' headers on the local roads, unless there's a bridge in the way. And that single axles are light.. I was wondering what comment they meant, until I just looked here for it and it's gone. First time I've ever been told a comment was removed. And of course they don't let you know what it was.. and can't do anything about it.. WTF 🤔

Ha, that corn combine scared the hell outta that rabbit. A pretty day for harvestng, G. I didn't know you leased out your land. I just love the smells of a grainery. Heck, it won't be long before you'll have those fields covered in snow. Of course, the change of seasons begets its own set of chores. That combine sure made quick work of harvesting corn. Interestig info about transporting those massive corn combines. Now that you mentioned it, I don't think I ever remember seeing many combines driving along highways intact with the cutter cone heads attached. I did see them running totally intact on some back roads but that was back in the 60's back home in PA. The combines took up the entire two-lane road. Thanks for the ride-along, G. Emjoyed a full-watch. Semper Fi, from Ole Devil-Dog Don. The Few, The Proud.....👍🏽🤠 10/11/23

@tractortalkwithgary1271
@tractortalkwithgary1271 9 месяцев назад
Hi Luc. That’s a good question. Much of this grain will be trucked to the terminals on the Mississippi River, about an hour away. Once there, it will be loaded on barges, for the most part, and carried down river to the gulf to be loaded on ocean going cargo ships. Much will go to China. Some to other countries. Mexico is the biggest importer of our domestic corn. Corn that is trucked to Cedar Rapids Clinton, and other big grain terminals is turned into food products, such as high fructose corn syrup, which is used really heavily in food products down here in the states. I have noticed that Canada is not big on using it. There is much concern about the safety of using it and that may be a topic of discussion for another day. Thanks for watching Luc. Always love having you stop by.
@tractortalkwithgary1271
@tractortalkwithgary1271 9 месяцев назад
Some will go to local ethanol plants and will be turned into fuel. A by product of that is dried distillers grains, or ddg’s. That then becomes another feed source for livestock.

Like the look of that gleaner combine. Corn looks ripe, was it completely dry?
@tractortalkwithgary1271
@tractortalkwithgary1271 9 месяцев назад
Thanks Chad. Jay dumped some loads in that building, what they call the flat. The corn was testing 15.9 so they could just forego the dryer. The other loads they blended in with wetter corn. They dock for excess moisture. They should pay a premium for corn that doesn’t have to be dried. They should... but they don’t.
