With Halloween just around the corner it's time to create an amazing haunted house for tabletop gaming or dioramas out of mostly foam and some other cool supplies from ShiftingLands.com. Gerard Boom of Shifting Lands collaborated with me on this build to help achieve its final result! This build is filled with all sorts of horrifying details right out of your favorite classic horror film!

Dude, that was EPIC. Fantastic build. I would say "as usual" but there was nothing usual about that! Amazing stuff. LOTS of things to take away for smaller builds as well! That jack-o-lantern was really cool, and all the little touches (as usual, lol) were great. And that Shifting Lands announement! WOW!! Even though shipping from the US to Canada still kinda sucks, I'll be interested to see how much cheaper it will be. Great news there!!!

I'm now about 7 minutes in to the video, but 3 stories in to the build. This is absolutely doable for anyone to re create even with just dollar store foam and an razor knife. John makes this more accessible than you could imagine. Just start and you'll understand.

The shingles part had me in tears 😭 here I'm cutting each individual one like a peasant ... But honestly this was amazing. I think it's difficult to top this ... But you probably already have something bigger in mind don't you😂😂

@@TabletopWitchCRAFT I should be on Facebook next year I'm planning several trips one big one to the US, hoping to do a blues tour of the deep south, there's also a few Horror movie locations I wish to visit the Nosferatu is just one ( did you know the same castle was used in the BBC version of Dracula last year you can see it featured heavily in that 3 part show, they even use the iconic flight of stairs from where you got your pic, and also the door frame as well all in full colour!) b I am planning trips to Transylvania And the real Graf (Castle) Frankenstein in Germany. there are also a few UK locations such as the Hammer studios and the place where the wicker man was filmed. As you probably guessed I'm a huge Horror fan. oh by the way Maine New England???? Horror central for the US H P Lovecraft Edgar Allen Poe and Steven King country?

Although I actually prefer scratch-building over having precise plans, I have to say that the quality of the final product is just absolutely amazing. So impressing. This could be used for a haunted house horror movie. Hope you sell lots of the plans.

This is so cool! I love how easily you make the foam work look. The main tower you referred to was called a belvedere, and traditionally it was used for women to watch for their men returning from war!

You've GOT to run a CoS/Ravenloft one-shot module!!! For the last 2 weeks I busted my crafting butt to write the Ravenloft one-shot, building a castle, and props for my DnD night, just this past Thursday. It was AWESOME! Our group LOVED my CoS/Ravenloft set, castle, and module!!! It's so rewarding when the players go nuts for a project a DM works on!!! When they have fun, how can the DM not have fun?! Now they want a Ravenloft/CoS one-shot every Halloween! Do it! Cause you and your players will have so much fun!!! And as always... AWESOME BUILD!!!! THX!

minute 31:48 - the movie of course is Nosferatu, a 1922 movie by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau :) ... awesome build, dude. I thought your castle and the collosseum were already fantastic (and they are) but this one just is beyond compare. What a fantastic model and video!

I wish I could build one of these, so I could play rpg, but I never met anyone in my town that plays rpg. Ps.: If you're confused why there are no rpg players in my town, this kind of game isn't so common here in Brazil

I don't know what the restrictions may be with shipping large quantities of that overseas, but if there was a stable stateside source for that stuff that would be epic! I would bet even folks like Jeremy from Black Magic Craft would buy that for his builds, since he loves it too. On a different note, your videos just keep getting better and better! I find myself looking forward to the next one frequently, especially your major builds like this one, the dwarven tomb, and the coliseum. Thanks for all you do for the crafting community. Your work is inspiring! Now, just need to wait for the US Shifting Lands to get off the ground. I love Gerard's tools but the shipping is prohibitively expensive. Dude I genuinely mean this with all sincerity......this is by far the MOST EPIC build ive ever seen for table top gaming, the detail is so far beyond what one would imagine it to be, as a horror fan I love Count Orlok in the window, and the editing in the Montage has a really awesome creepy vibe to it, deff had some Hitchcock vibes to it! John, an absolutely awesome build. I think of this as being used for Hell House (Durst manor) in Curse of Strahd. This is great news about Shiftinglands USA. Oh and I see Nosferatu in the window, great choice. I like the silent version and the version with Klaus Kinski in the late 70's-80's.

I use XPS Foam here in the United States... I believe you can find Styrodur where you are, that stuff is perfect!

That's just gorgeous. The small details like the broken window or those flickering lights really turned it up a notch. And omg, that Rosetta window... Gotta be honest, I think you could have done better shingles yourself. This pattern of long/short/long/short just doesn't seem right... But yea, I can see how saving you a ton of work has value as well. :) Still looks great with that paintjob though. Great video sir!

The roofline shingles should be trimmed off, they don’t usually extend past the roof itself. Also it’s supposed to be an old house right? it needs some broken and crooked shingles, holes in roff etc. I love the build! So amazing.! Keep up the great works, you are an amazing artist!

Fun fact: XPS foam is semi-illegal to use in construction in my country. Turns out the stuff release cyanide gas when burned, so we only use it encased in concrete. Masks and ventilation won't cut it guys, don't burn XPS foam with an open flame. Hot wire cutters melt, they don't burn, so that should be okay.

Yep you don't want to be lighting it on fire. Using a hot pin is pushing it. I have a 5500 CFM fan that I work under along with a really good P95 mask.

I am curious why you didn't trim the first row of shingles. Typically the first row should be flush with the roofline. I realize that this is for fantasy gaming but it looks kind of weird. Otherwise, a great job.

Beautiful looking piece. I’m guessing they to see the table at some point. With the “blank interior floors,” a person could use wizkids walls to make rooms and other terrain.

so I bought the blueprints for the mansion and I'm having fun building it but I was just curious as to what size windows I should order from shiftinglands. it may take a long time to get here and I would hate to get a size too big or too small and reorder. lol. any help from someone would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi David, thank you for your support. I'm not sure where you live, but you can order them from ShiftingLandsUSA and the shipping is pretty fast here in the US. The best bet is to measure off the plans to get an idea of the windows. There are quite a few in this build. The packs don't come with sizes on them and I used what Gerard sent my way.

Amazing, as always. This house has great re-usability. As you mentioned, it can be used for curse of strahd but also would be great for pathfinder rise of the runelords adventure path chapter 2.

I heard that the closest type of foam to styrodurr available in the US is Foamular 400, which is meant to be about the same density as styrodurr.

Hi buddy , when your surface area is to big for hot glue your using wet tacky glue i see , if your looking to stick it without waiting on it drying use tacky glue like your doing but put it on both surfaces and let it go off to its clear state then put both surfaces together and itll stick straight away rock solid , in other words contact adhesive for foam...😉

There's an architectural trick where they vary the size of the shingles as they go up the roof, with the largest shingles on the bottom row and the smallest shingles along the top of the roof. It gives the illusion of the roof stretching up higher than it is. I wonder how that would look on a miniature.

For chimney pipes I use brass pex end plugs from the hardware store I paint on some vinegar and it puts a nice patina on them they look great on brick or stone chimneys
