These easy fantasy trees are so fun to make, and I bet you have most of the supplies in your home already. Make a few of these for your next tabletop game session or dioramas. Loaded up with a bunch of fun little details they will have your players staring at them in awe! I also make use of some Woodland Scenics products, and a few small animal miniatures to really add some life to this tree.

🌳 Nice tree. Here is a tip, before you add the hot glue bark, glue strands of unraveled jute twine onto the trunk. When you start to apply and streak the hot glue it basically saturates the strands of twine and draws them into the streaked pattern. It makes a much finer and less-blobby finish.

Agree with John, they are easy if you have the patience, for the gluing, e.g. However, that’s about $30 worth of supplies. It’s reflected in the quality but can be daunting if you needed a forest. Poly fibre is great for vines & moss when it’s stretched to an almost imperceptible thinness. Have you tried these trees with a thinner layer under the clump foliage? It would probably still hold the clumps like a mesh. For a ‘fantasy tree’ though, the carpet coverage works well. 👍🏻👍🏻, as usual

great video, nice trees! When painting on top of the hot glue a great primer to use is a 50/50 mix of PVA glue and wall spackle. It takes paint really well and dries with a slight flex so that it won't crack over time.

would be awesome for a specific ancient tree in an enchanted forest but imho i think they are way out of scale for 25mm ttrpg awsome build and when my party enters a druid stronghold or dryad forest this will be a centerpiece for it!!!!also would it be better to use a spray like super 77 over there tacky glue?
@TabletopWitchCRAFT
@TabletopWitchCRAFT 4 года назад
Yeah, this is more of an "Elder" tree for my campaign. I have other plans down the road... I'm not sure how well the spray glue would work. The nice thing about making up your own mix you can paint on is that it will soak into the clump foliage for a great bond. Using the spray you would have to put a ton on. It went on real easy making my own watered down mix.

I’m definitely a newbie when it comes to this kind of thing, so I was a bit confused by the “old classic” kind of references you made. I’m also not sure what the spray you were using in conjunction with the hot glue when making the bark was? I think that was my main confusion. There was one later I was confused about too, but I’ve lost it now, aha;;

Thank you. It's hard to put a solid number on it because only a portion of packs of things were used. The only thing that you would have to buy to make the base tree that you most likely wouldn't have at home would be the clump foliage. Each pack was about $9 but again, I didn't use it all and it could also be substituted for other items if you wanted to save the cash.

Your stuff looks amazing, but I have to admit I don't enjoy your videos as much as some other crafters because I usually come away thinking the builds are too complex and require more precision than I can muster with the skills I have so far. But your thumbnail said easy, the title said easy, so I figured I'd trust it and take a look … and whoa. I mean, I'd go through every (mini) stick of glue I've got and not be finished, but yeah, I do have all the stuff needed to make the dead tree. And I could have the stuff to make the live one in 24 hours. And yeah, I could do this. I'm floored by how freakin' sweet it looks, and I could totally build it. I might need to. 😃

I have been looking at these for a while and came up with a midification im going to try if you cut the stem in half creating a top and a buttom. You could place a metal disc with a center hole, normally used for constryction. Placeing a small magnet in the center hole of the metal disc. This would create magnetic tress where you could remove the top when you needed to see what was below. Also making it easier to store. What do you think

Looks great! Two things though. 1 - putting green-stuff on to a painted surface can easily break/fall off. Superglue would help but it's still on a painted surface, which can crack/chip off. 2 - as an alternative to hot-glue, you could try over-bake sculpt clay, it's usually pretty cheap. Depends what's cheaper, glue or clay. Great ends result :)

@@TabletopWitchCRAFT I'm picking up some aluminium wire in different sizes to do the same sort of builds. One other thing I noticed, if you want to save some $ on the bulk of the leaves under the nice clump greens, instead of using hobby product, you could use cotton wool, and just air brush it dark green. Haven't tried it but might be worth a try?

Pretty amazing!!!! Did you mix mod podge and black paint? What is the mixing ratio of mod podge and black paint? and What kind of black paint you used? Thank you...
@TabletopWitchCRAFT
@TabletopWitchCRAFT 4 года назад
Thank you Edith. The ratio isn't an exact scene. I just mix in the paint until the mixture is close to black, not grey. It's probably close to a 50/50 mix. The exact black paint I use is listed in the Amazon Links in the video description.

Personally, I'd suggest skipping the foil, use toilet paper with watered down white glue since you're using hot glue. Foil carries heat far to well and burns are not fun to deal with there, and if it's hot enough, that can take off layers of skin in painful ways. I've done a lot of trees using TP rolls, just capping the top end of it rather than building a canopy...they work great to represent a redwood or similar type tree, while allowing you to skip needing to deal with the canopy on the tabletop.
@TabletopWitchCRAFT
@TabletopWitchCRAFT 4 года назад
Interesting concept. I only used a small amount of hot glue to hold the foil together. The glue covering the foil and paper towel roll is really what holds it all together. If I can avoid a technique that I have to wait days to cure I will... not to say I haven't done that before. Cool tip though and thanks for sharing.
@AzraelThanatos

@@TabletopWitchCRAFT The time part of it isn't actually that bad, and it's normally ready to be coated the next day, less if it's a warm/dry day that you can speed the dry time with even more. Each time I've worked on them, I've done a pile of them at a time, including things like stumps and hollow logs as scatter...and one really big one by working several together to make one with a tunnel through it.
