Then the eggs hatch inside the pouch. 3 - When the young are ready to be born, the male seahorse expels them with muscular contractions. Typically, seahorses give birth at night and are ready for the next batch of eggs by morning when his mate returns. To conclude, the word "pregnant" literally means to carry developing offspring within the body. Ergo, male seahorses do get pregnant. The process in which it happens is just different.
