Optical illusions!! At 1:19 (Shady Optical Illusion) there are 4 shades of blue going from lightest to darkest (left to right). If the transition point between the shades is covered, our eyes and brains can't process the difference between neighboring shades. We see them as the exact same shade even though they are different.

This is the kind of videos I like. If you search "optical illusion", every video is a stupid countdown with some annoying narrator talking incessantly, throwing in maybe a 10-second clip of the actual illusions throughout his ramblings. Your video showed the awesome illusions without all the extra. Thank you for this upload!

Awesome stuff. Of course some illusions are easily explained (0:18 our brain takes the perspective into account, 0:42 the diamonds go gradually darker from top to bottom abd the all white background on the top further helps) and others only work in 2D - but a few are unexplainable and mindblowing to me. For ex. 0:29 or 0:59. Must be an evolution thing. No straight lines and 90º angles in nature, so our brain isn't fully preparted for certain geometric shapes... I guess.... thanks for uploading!

@lanebaguss14 I drew it w/ pencil and then painted it on the back of a leftover piece of vinyl flooring. I mounted my video camera on a tripod and used its lcd screen to come up with dimensions for the cube. It's anamorphic so that meant a lot of trial and error while drawing it (walking back and forth from the camera to the vinyl and making tons of adjustments until it looked like a perfect 3D cube from that viewing angle). It looks completely different in real life of course.

If you cover up the transition point of the shades, your eyes and brain cannot process the difference between neighboring shades. You see them as the exact same shade even though they are different. @n00bhxX0r All the diamonds are exactly the same. They each have the exact same gradient that is ligther at the top and slightly darker at the bottom. Our brains automatically process the 3 rows of diamonds as going from darkest at the top row to lightest at the bottom row (even though they're all exactly the same). It's really simple but we just don't see it that way. Hope that helps :) Thanks for watching and commenting!

@2old4thatsuXx I drew it in photoshop, printed it out and then handcut 200 tiny pieces of paper. Then it took me over 4 hrs. to place them all perfectly in that pattern before I blew them off the paper. I don't have a link for that one. That was just about the most tedious thing I've ever done in my life.

@BallisticNinja10 i get the pencil one i think... the papers are all the same color, just at different angles, therefore different lighting on the paper, so the pencil make 2 different pieces look the same cause they are both weighed down to the same angle

@DzoniDiVaio All the diamonds are the same, they have a gradient from light grey at the top to dark grey at the bottom. Look closely. That is why it makes it look like the row of diamonds below is lighter, because it is below the dark half of the ones above.

@BallisticNinja10 if u watch it before he put the pencil, u can see that the blue colour is darker from left to right. but after he put the pencil, u'll see that left and right of the pencil is the same level of blue colour. sorry for bad grammar.

@issabella1117 just proving that the 2 tabletops are the same size...most ppl see the left one as being longer and thinner than the right one.
