(TRY THIS) The tops of the diamonds are lighter and bottoms are darker we know this because you can easily make out the diamond shapes otherwise the color would fade down evenly and no distinct shapes would be seen. Since each diamond is beside other diamonds 1 diamond half below and one half above each other diamond on every side it creates a gradient color illusion but the trick is the shading of the diamonds. if you don't believe me then try this cover the top row of white diamonds completely with your hand or something and slowly scroll the web page up or move your hand down and watch the bottom tips of the diamonds on each row change to the darkest shade of grey just like the top row. All the diamonds except the white ones are the same color its just there shading and arrangement that tricks us. (note. The bad grammar in this comment is trade marked as a stile)

I draw most of my illusions in Photoshop, but it's a drawing program...not a "make things fake program", you know what I'm saying? I created it in Photoshop but it's 100% real. It's an optical illusion. Thanks for watching.

No. Each diamond is exactly the same(including the one that I moved around). Each one is slightly lighter gray at the top than at the bottom. This creates the illusion. The white at the top starts the illusion by telling your eyes that the top row of diamonds is darker than the row below it (the contrast makes that top row look darker)..hope this makes sense. @PandaMagicFTW None of my illusion videos are fake. Take it into Paint or Photoshop, select any one of the diamonds and move it around. You'll see proof that you can't deny.

The real tone is the second full mid tone from the top. Notice when he moves the optical diamond to the top and bottom full tones of gray diamonds the color is slightly lighter than the top and darker from the bottom. Great trick, especially to use at partys where there are drunks. Thanks for the trick.

@pokenei Its basically what your eyes strain to see. When two contrasting colors are placed side by side your eyes will adjust to compensate for that dramatic difference by making it seem like one is darker and the other is lighter. But once you move them to a group of similar colors, your eyes relax from the contrast. Same effect if you wear white to a funeral, you're basically radiant.

it could just also be some wierd reflective material that looks different depending on what angle you're looking at it from. there's alot of materials that do that.

makes sense, the light way up top makes the top diamonds seem darker. The bottom diamonds are surrounded by darker diamonds, making them seem lighter. The point is that they're all the same diamonds and they are formed in a way that the top is a shade lighter than the bottom.

@HuanManwe All of the diamonds are exactly the same. They're all grey but they have a gradient (each one is slighlty lighter on the top than on the bottom). The way the pattern of them is arranged, our eyes and brains process the rows of them as looking like dark, medium, light in that order from the top row to the bottom row. Also, the white at the top helps to start the illusion by making the top row look darker.

Your English is great. Feel free to leave comments on my videos any time. All of the diamonds are the same. You're right. Each separate diamond is slightly lighter at the top and each one gets slightly darker and darker as you go towards the bottom. There's a gradient on each one. The white at the top helps to make that top row look darker and that "starts" the illusion. Again, thanks for the comment and stay tuned :)

No, the triangles at the very bottom are a lighter gray than the diamonds are. That just helps the illusion the same way that the white triangles at the top help it.

All the diamonds are the same color but they're not monotone. They're all litle brighter at the top and darker at the bottom. Then it makes an illusion that the upper row is darker then the lower. The first row is laid over white background, then even the brightest part at the top looked dark, that's why it appears the darkest row. Nice trick!

Illusion, it changes color whenever he puts it on a different shade. Basically, that paper is only one shade, but it keeps changing as he moves it from darker to lighter, etc.

You aren't thinking about the lighting used to film the video. This ads a bit of yellow hue to the diamonds, but they are all the same. The lighting gives it a different color value on Photoshop. They have a grey gradient, but the yellow lighting produces a color not found on Photoshop. Try to select one in Paint and then move it around on the other diamonds. You'll see that it's not fake.

@xxflinkxx That's just how it appears, there is no gradient to the color at all. Where the optical illusion comes from is the half diamonds on the top and bottom of the page. Those are a different color than the rest of the diamonds on the page and there is one diamond whose tip touches both the white halves on top and the light grey halves on bottom. This is what creates the initial gradient illusion and your eye interprets the rest of the diamonds as reacting to this first illusion accordingly

Good work, you're right :) That's the only reason this works. The white at the top helps to enhance the contrast and make the top row look darker. The rest is all due to gradients. Each diamond is exactly the same and obviously has the same gradient. Our brains are just REALLY fooled when we see them in this pattern and don't know about the gradient. All diamonds have the same gradient color (top = light, bottom = dark) Because the way they're aligned in the square, and the addition of the white triangles, our eyes fool us to believe they're different colors.

I think either the plane on which the paper is laid on is the light is angled at a certain way that creates a gradient of light.

there are certainly shades of grey. grey is a combination of reflective white and absorbent black. the more black, the darker grey. the less black, the lighter. true grey is in the center(even amounts of black and white) but that doesn't mean you can't tip the values either way. as long as there is not "Color" present, it is a shade of grey.

@greeenpro2009 Using the color palette tool on MSPAINT or Photoshop, you can see that bottoms of the lower pieces *are* actually lighter than the bottoms of the top pieces.

Take the image into paint. Play with it a while. Copy the top layer and keep duplicating it upwards. Eventually you'll see that all the diamonds are the same. It is because of how the diamonds shading grows from lighter at the top to darker at the bottom that the illusion is created. Once you know that, you can look for it, and see it without the illusion.
