The "public" better not know about "Porcupine Tree" (especially Steven Wilson). Their music is not for publicity. If it was, they weren't "Porcupine Tree", nor Steven Wilson.
IMHO: greatest of all time bands; yeah, Porcupine Tree is "Top Drawer!" Suggest reaction to Routine or Anesthetize ... this was Not a one hit band. Kudos, Steven Wilson!!🤭
Funny story. A few years' ago, my wife and I went to see Porcupine live. She's not a big fan but I am. The gig was over 3 hours long and their first track was 40 minutes long without breaks. My wife said she was going to the toilet. I got absorbed in the concert then there was a break of ten minutes. I looked around for her but couldn't find her so I figured she was sitting at the back somewhere. I watched the rest of the gig and then left. My wife was sitting outside on the steps leading up to the venue. I said 'how long you been here?' She said 'since they started. I got thrown out for smoking in the toilets'. :)
I took my then girlfriend to see Rush in LA 14 years ago. Lit up a doob and had a rent a cop shine a light on me and told me to come with him. Thought I was going to get the boot. He yelled at me about no smoking, of course half the people we lighting up, but he thankfully didn't kick me out.
I accidentally saw Him Steve Wilson In Mexico City a friend and I. STEVE Wilson live GET ALL YOU DESERVE Holly Crap Blew anything I was listening to or seeing Thought I still listen to the other groups but If all were playing the same night down the street I'd go to the UK just to see Steve Wilson Porcupine Tree last so called last concert in America was at the Greek Theater Wow but I am sure they still have 1 or 3 reunions left in them! John Gavin Harrison & my Boy Colin superb 👌 🙏🌍🫡😁
Love seeing people discover this incredible band. They have a large deep discography that's full of amazing songs. Steven Wilson, the creative force behind this band is now a solo artist and his solo stuff is also well worth diving into. You really can't go wrong with any live track from these guys. Some of it is spacey and psychedelic. Some of it's heavy. All of it is worth a listen.
That's an excellent analysis of Porcupine Tree's sound. Once you start listening to their music it's hard to stop. Here is a link to Steven Wilson and his current band playing at The Royal Albert Hall. It's amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-277HZDjtgGU.html
Porcupine Tree are my favourite band, but in watching folks react to hearing them for the first time, I've learned to appreciate them on other different levels. Thank you for this, and I'm really glad you enjoyed them.
I was at this show! Park West in Chicago. This was from the first night. They taped 2 nights, with 2 different set list to combine into the dvd. Check out Steven Wilson! He is the lead singer and master mind of greatness!!!
Lucky duck. I got to see them in 2010 in Miami. Unfortunately they didn't play this song, although they played the "pills in me" part from Anesthetize. But Arriving Somewhere is such a monumental song I wish I had seen it live... somewhere.
holy crap. I JUST got into this band, totally by accident. "Fear of a Blank Planet" was playing during the end credits of an (ironically) X-Box game called "Control" - ran to get my phone and Shazammed it. Can't get them out of my head. That was a month ago. I haven't been THIS happy since i first heard Kings's X on "Gretchen Goes to Nebraska" - and that was over 20 years ago.
This is defenitely my all time favourite band, saw them 40+ times live since 2000, for good reasons. Totally incredible stuff, happy to see others discover and dig it. Thanks!
GOAT! I am 64 and this band is truly the best I've ever come across. I've listened to many genres and of course love other artists and bands, but PT take me on a journey and give me the feels every time. PT have so many great tracks, but others you must react to you as you go down the rabbit hole include Anesthetize, Fear of a Blank Planet, Hate Song, Dignity, Chimera's Wreck - and these are just the tip of the iceberg.
This is the song that got me down the Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson rabbit hole in 2008 but I really started listening in 2012 and that was IT... I'm 2 yrs late but I love seeing other ppl find and react to this gem of a band and I hope you listened to more since then! 🤞 This one takes you a trip eh?! Much love to you my friend and to all still left on this fucked up planet! ❤💜💙 from Ontario, Canada
Their musicality is incredible. One of my favorite bands if you're in the right mood. It's very atmospheric. Steve Wilson is a musical genius. I recommend you check out some of his solo material too. Keep up the good work of sharing music.
You nailed the description of how this song is perfectly balanced to carry you on a euphoric eargasmic ride. I smile and move every time I listen to it...
It doesn’t get any better than Porcupine Tree. They make absolutely amazing music and are phenomenal live. Check out Anesthetize, Cheating The Polygraph, The Sound Of Muzak, Hatesong, Time Flies, Dark Matter, the list go on and on. This is a rabbit hole well worth exploring!
INCREDIBLE tune. Incredible band - Porcupine Tree. Incredible songwriter - Steven Wilson. His solo stuff, and other bands or joint efforts (IEM, No-man, Blackfield, Storm Corrosion)... ALL are amazing, and demonstrate the multiple talents and many facets of his musical gifts!
I am an early days fan, from the start and so many times, to so many people I tried to make PT be descovered, i really enjoy seeing you guys getting to at last, listen the masterpeice builders of modern music, for me they stand with the best bands ever!
Your reaction is outstanding! I love this band. I've only discovered them about 6 months ago, and oh man, what a treat you have in store... Also Steven Wilson's solo work with a touring band..... Thank you. Loved it, a new subscriber! 🎧
O hells yeah brother! This is the best band in the world so many legendary tracks , my personal top: Dark matter, Trains, Blackeyes . The singer went solo and he has some incredible music too : routine, drive home , pariah . the raven ... awesome!
I have not heard one yet, even with Steven's early stuff you could tell how well he understood how certain sounds create moods and how repetition is necessary
Great band, good song & performance. Steven Wilson is a genius & Gavin Harrison is a beast. Check out 'Hatesong' from this same concert, it's killer, blows this song away! It's titled; "Porcupine Tree - Hatesong (HD)"
Rather Anathema sounds like them. Steven Wilson, the singer of Porcupine Tree, mixed Anathema's album We're here because we're here. They also joined the label Kscope then that was founded for Porcupine Tree.
I know this thread is old, however if you really want to hear the best of PT and Steven Wilson I recommend you start with their back catalogue. Listen in date order. You’ll see the progression. There isn’t a bad album. Steven Wilson does a lot of re-engineering for many bands and if you can find his old PT albums re-engineered in 5.1 listen to them. After listening to all the PT albums then listen to Stephen Wilson’s solo stuff. Every album is a trip. He uses the best musicians and he is an auteur in regards to music creation. Best advice - listen to the physical CD/dvd/Blu-ray/vinyl through the best headphones you have or through a 5.1 system with loudspeakers. You won’t regret it. Streaming won’t do it justice. Then once you’ve heard all the studio albums listen to the live ones 😂 Then you’ll be a SW stan.... 🤘🏼
I guess I should add a list of other songs of theirs that I really like: "Radioactive Toy", "Buying New Soul", "Russia on Ice", "Lazarus", "Mellotron Scratch", "Sky Moves Sideways", "Every Home is Wired", "Even Less", "Piano Lessons". If you might like something more psychedelic, try "Voyage 34: The Complete Trip".
Such a talented band. Gavin Harrison is an absolute beast of a drummer. This song doesn't necessarily showcase that, but if you listen something like Anesthetize, you'll hear some pretty amazing top-shelf drumming.
I loved your reaction, I had the same😱! PT is my favorite band. Dig deep on RU-vid because there are so many songs you will love. Buying new Soul SHESMOVEDON Fadeaway (the last 2 were remastered in 2016) Even less Russia on Ice And so many more. I can’t get enough!!
This song is definitely a journey. I discovered Porcupine Tree like 6 months before this album dropped. I often discover bands after they've already stopped creating new music. So, this was an exciting time to be a fan, as I actually got to experience a new release.
PT are awesome . The start of something beautiful is fantastic. Hate Song (LIVE) is an absolute jam that showcases the great talents of the whole band , Gavin Harrison (my fav drummer of all time) is beyond great . Way out of here (LIVE) superb . Then two tracks that are linked together and should be played as a two part review : Normal + Sentimental ♥️
Oh yea hatesong live is just amazing. I do like the sax solo in the old version tho. But it just doesnt compare to Steven, gav, richard, colin's virtuosity ahahhahah
Porcupine Tree and The Pineapple Thief are my two absolute favorite bands. Same drummer Gavin Harrison is now with TPT since PT split. Brilliant writing and musicianship throughout.
This is the first reaction video I've watched because I love the song. I knew the moment I heard the guitar I was going to listen to it thought. What I appreciate that you did is not stop the song and talk over it but rather saving that for the end for the most part. Having watched a few reactions videos it seems most people stop the talk to bla which I find intolerable. Glad you enjoyed the song.
Sounds like you like prog. Try Porcupine Tree’s mastermind Steve Wilson’s solo track Routine. Make sure to watch the official video and have several boxes of tissues nearby
To me, this song is EXACTLY describing what it is like to be in a major car crash..."ARRIVING SOMEWHERE, BUT NOT HERE!"...It hit home because I was in one years ago and it really described the sights, sounds and feelings before, during and after the crash...Even hearing the music on the radio and thinking if that was the last sound or not...but then there were so many other sounds in the song as well that described the crash, not just the lyrics...The violent guitars as the crash and the chaotic atmosphere surrounding the crash mixed with the serene sounds in the music and how both sounds tend to go back and forth as if you are almost in a weird other world were you don't understand you are really in the moment, but the violent guitars kick in and another part of you is in the chaos of the moment...It's as if you are weirdly numbed (literally for me and metaphorically) in between a peaceful place outside of yourself and an atmosphere of chaos...almost as if nothing is really happening, but everything is happening all at once...and the time signatures of the music slowing down and speeding up and switching between the peaceful, otherworldly sounds and the harsh, violent, chatic guitar riffs... There was even a part describing being in the hospital (I think the person in this crash had some sort of surgery...something about the heart and cutting)...I was just taken to the ER at that time (but that's neither here nor there)...the song also describes the after effects in life and in your own body of said car accident and saying things like, "My life is simplified" (in a way it is and it seems to be, but it's not simplified as well)..."My dreams are comprimised"...Things like that!... Yeah! I feel like the song lyrically and sonically/musically, is describing the very experience before, during, after and going forward through life being of a major car accident. ✌️🤘🖖🙏🏽... This song was VERY well put together and the singer (the guy who sang ROUTINE...Steven was it?) has a very cool voice and way of putting a story together and his choice of notes and tones of voice was very well thought out and sounded nice...He can sing for sure! The music was really good...The shredding guitar was very cool and the dreamy, slower tones were great as well... In some ways this singer with his solo work and Porcupine Tree remind me of THE POSTAL SERVICE. Gives me a similar vibe and the music and story-telling in some ways feels similar, but also unique to each bands own sound...I saved this band and his solo stuff on my music Player...because it's good AND me and my dad love THE POSTAL SERVICE and while they are two different artist and sounds, they give off a similar vibe and I'm positive my dad will dig this artist and band...Me and my parents connect over music, so this will be cool to show my dad cause he misses THE POSTAL SERVICE and this is right up his alley as far as that type of music is concerned...Also, his FAVORITE band is PINK FLOYD and this is different, but a similar vibe as well...Also reminds me of GOTYE (if anyone has heard more than just his main song and how artistic and vibey his other songs are in a similar way)...Not that it matters to anyone really 😂😋, my dad is just older, so cherish the good times when you can. 😊...it's cool to find good music you can share with others and bond over... Music brings people together and makes you think or just jam out and have a good time and I think that's cool. 😎😎😎... Yeah, that was quite an essay! If I was back in school...A++ cause I totally hit the word limit! Go me! 🤣... Also, if you got this far 😋...check out THE POSTAL SERVICE or GOTYE (if you haven't already! 😋...I'm new here, but I liked your reaction...I dig reactors who are just open to music in general and have sincere reactions. 😎)...Their popular songs are good, but the rest of their songs are quite artistic and GOTYE is or was an art school student in university so his music videos are REALLY creative as well...If you like Porcupine Tree...I'm sure you'll like THE POSTAL SERVICE and GOTYE! 😎😊😎
Anesthetize, A Smart Kid, Russia On Ice, Don't Hate Me, Buying New Soul , and on and on with so many great songs. Top of my play list with Opeth, TOOl, SOEN, Klone, Katatonia, The Pineapple Thief, and number 1 Porcupine Tree.
My favorite PT song. Like many, you don't notice the dark undertones of of the lyrics, due to the music. This is a song about Death, and what comes after?? I want this played at my service.
The name, Porcupine Tree, sounds silly, because it was a joke. The lead singer invented a fake "legendary" prog band and created some mix tapes of their back catalogue. That was the young Steven Wilson who turned out to be a musical genius. Self taught singer, guitarist, keyboardist, engineer and producer he was PT for the first albums. By this concert, PT had been going for over twenty years and were to be taken very seriously. Wilson also does solo work and side projects No-Man and Blackfield. All next level. Wilson is probably the best song writer you've never heard of.
Steven Wilson is a Primordial Genius. Check out that entire concert. It will blow your ass way, Bro. Thanks for reacting! Check out the songs "Open Car" and "Even Less".
