A 2nd time record spotting of the elusive Pallas's Cat at Tsokar Lake in Ladakh by Ancient Tracks (www.ancienttracks.com/) birding group from Italy Mr. Francesco Family on 20th August 2019 lead by our wildlife guide Mr. Namgyal.
This lone cat was found hunting in the lush green grassland of Tasabuk area of Tsokar lake in the morning of 20th August 2019.
Earlier in Feb. 2019, a group of wildlife photographers also spotted Pallas's cat in the area.
As per local information, there used to be many Pallas's cat but with passage of time and modern developmental works in the region in the form road construction, new mini trucks used by the nomads and due to more flow of tourists in the region, the number of this cat was seen declining and there was time when experts thought that this cat is lost from this habitat.
Good news is that this hotspot of wildlife of Ladakh called the Tsokar basin is still hosting many an endangered species of wildlife of the region, including Tibetan Sand Fox (again recorded by guests of Ancient Tracks (www.ancienttracks.com) in 2018 in the region with the same guide Mr. Tsering Namgyal Raja)
