When I first saw the "A New Hope" special edition in theaters in the 90's, I went nuts for the Falcon lifting out of Mos Eisley before blasting off. Another nice addition IMO.
Look up the Star Wars Despecialised Edition, it's fan made cut of Star Wars that has the quality of the Blue-Ray rerelease, without all the stuff George has added over the years. It's amazing and the making of is just as good
And it isn't even a continuity issue. Just because he's a clone doesn't mean he's going to sound exactly like his dad. Boba last heard Jango speak when Boba was about 10. He's unlikely to have the same accent as Jango, adopting the accent of whatever people/aliens he was around most frequently as he continued to grow up. As for the difference in timbre, it could be due to any number of stresses on his voice. This was nothing but another unnecessary and jarring change by Lucas.
dreamlandnightmare listen Different Jedi don’t even have the same accent even though they all grow up together, accent adoption just isn’t a thing in Star Wars. Whatever accent you have is the accent you get.
The change was totally unnecessary. In ROTJ, when Leia is in her bounty hunter disguise, her voice is completely different (and she's speaking a completely different langauge) until she takes off her helmet. All George had to do was tell fans that Boba Fett's helmet had the same technology as Leia's helmet.
What about when the stormtrooper hits his head on the door, George added a sound effect, an audible "clunk", it's subtle but hilarious especially since it started as a background joke you had to look for to see.
Caravan of Garbage, Sonic X (The Animated Series) That would be awesome to do before the live action movie. If possible... When you can. Please, and thank you.
The only change I don't mind is opening up Cloud City, and even that is distracting. There is absolutely no reason for Disney/Lucasfilm to not release the Original Trilogy unaltered.
An explosion with an expanding ring of fire is called a Praxis effect, because it was originally seen in the explosion of the moon Praxis, at the beginning of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991).
@@ThreadBomb I would say it's good on it's own too. It would seem out of place maybe without more of him after the attack on the death star if he didn't die though. I think if he had been seen a little at the beginning of the film it would have been a more rounded part of Luke's story.
9:46 Here’s your rap, pay me later 😎 Yo My beats are quick and As sweet as a cookie Gonna get Solo and his partner the wookie But first I have a rude word to say Before I kill that smuggler today! Trained for years from head to boot When I see solo I’m gonna shoot. Now Greedo is ready to get funky Times up solo, get ready MACLUNKY
The Han Solo shooting Greedo edit betrays the dynamic of the Han Solo Character. This occurs during our introduction to Han Solo, The Purpose of the scene was to display him as ruthless and resourceful. At this time Luke and the audience are unaware of whether or not he may be trustworthy, and after the audience witnesses him coldly dispatch Greedo, we are uncertain as to whether or not our rebels friends have just put themselves in danger by going with the smuggler. Bear in mind there is a redemption arc for the Han Solo in the third act where he comes back and proves he is more than just smuggler or a mercenary. The original Ewok celebration song was perfect in the original theatrical release of Return Of The Jedi, as was the original song played by the band in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in the original theatrical release of a New Hope. Updating music from a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away was unnecessary. Trying to add a musical score to the ambient environment of another world for the sake of appealing to a contemporary audience is a waste of time. The celebration throughout the galaxy is also a waste. The Death Star was a top secret battle station. The only persons who actually knew of its existence, were either assigned to work and protect the Death Star or an elite group of rebels on a mission to destroy the Death Star. The galaxy wide celebration does not correspond with the narrative. Ewoks were originally intended to look like spider eyed teddy bears. Spiders don't blink. Ewoks don't blink. Additions intended to add a more human elements to creatures that are otherworldly are unnecessary, but ultimately I didn't care. I don't mind bigger explosions but I never understood the weird fire rings in the vacuum of space. I guess it is no worse than having sound?
That leap of joy when James starts talking in his solo video voice but then switches to his Mason voice and you realise both the legends are in the video.
Hayden Christensen appearing at the end of Return of the Jedi does make sense. Episode 3 Anakin Skywalker was the last time he was a Jedi so if he's going to appear as a Jedi the most recent version would be Hayden Christensen. What doesn't make sense is the original version where Anakin Skywalker doesn't look anything like he did in real life.
my favourite change is where they're all celebrating the end of the empire and the music stops and everything silent except for Lando clapping to a tune no one can hear
I think Disney should give us all a platform to make all our own bizarre and crazy edits to the original films. I wanna see the Maso Cut #ReleaseTheMasoCut
I think taking out mistakes and the lines around green-screened objects is just good remastering. I've had no real issues with many of the visual improvements. It's adding new content that causes most problems. However Lucas adding Vader saying "Nooooo" to the moment he chooses to die protecting his son in ROTJ is a deliberate fuck you to fans. There's no reason for it other than him getting back at people mocking it in Revenge of the Sith.
The 100% just put Ian McDiarmid in front of a green screen while the crew was lighting the next setup and had him read the lines from the Empire space skype call.
Good changes: 1) Late 80s VHS release of Return of the Jedi added a scene in Jabba's palace where you see the dancer in the rancor pit. 2) Special Edition extended scene with the wampa at the start of Empire Strike Back. Everything else is pointless.
Guys, great video, likely an epic that couldn't be improved upon and will last forever as an enduring classic that defines a generation. That said, I know you were probably limited by the technology at of the time, don't you think you should correct the glaring omission of "maclunkey" at 7:26 to fix the continuity error that scene has always suffered from?
Something i believe its worth noting, and makes things interesting is that tye firts versions i grew with of star wars where post revenge of the sith, and i grew with them, so many of the changes they noticed and maybe didn't like, its actually the star wars i know. I dont think that makes anyone is better than other because of the version they watched, its just interesting, and probably talks about the legacy of the saga throughout different generations.
0:58 Are greedos - whatever the aliens are called - filled with hydrogen? Why _does_ he *explode?* Tons of people get shot by lasers during the wars.... among the stars, yet they just get singed or their armor sparks and they fall down or whatever. _Maybe_ there's a teeny explosion of smoke before the stuntmen throw themselves off of balconies or what-have-you. Now that you've pointed out how that puppet *blows up,* it's really raising some questions.... :P Also, for real James, give your editor a raise. For the waggling eyebrows on Darth Vader _alone,_ he deserves another one! #RaiseforMatt #INCREDIBLEeyebrows
I may be in the minority but I love Hayden in RotJ as Anakin's Ghost. I was born in 88 so I saw the originals as a kid and literally grew up with the prequels. Ok in retrospect, most of the DVD/ later changes are all for good continuity and I'm down with them.
I'm glad to see a video where people talk about the good changes, instead of whining and complaining (where they start to become the very thing they hated... Anakin... Or worse... Kylo Ren.. Due to all the whining) I understand changing what you liked originally, but I also get that this, well, used to be George's intellectual property and could do whatever the hell he wanted. (and contrary to popular belief he still was the primary influence and writer of all three original movies, still doing 85-95% of the story) All in all there are only 2 drastic changes that I dislike from the Special Editions... Everything else I think people are just complaining to complain because they haven't seen the very original versions in a long time. (Which some Special Edition haters admit to) 1: A New Hope: When going to Mos Eisley, there are a bunch of CGI creatures and civilian's walking right in front of the screen. (Don't have a problem with it when they're added in the background but in the specific scene when they're added to the very front and blocking everything is when it was too much) 2: Return of The Jedi: Jedi rocks musical in Jabba's Palace. All other changes, I find to either be so minor it doesn't matter (Rock in front of R2/Obi-Wan pretending to be a screaming Dragon) or justified (Changing Aids face Palpatine to Episode 6 Emperor). And finally the infamous Han Vs Greedo scene. I actually don't care. I also haven't seen the original original version of Episode 4 in a long time, and after I saw an article that had the Theatrical vs Disney+ version side by side, I was shocked by how much people defend the original theatrical version as it is so clunky looking with its edit, close up of Han, random explosion (not seeing the blast come from Han) then dead Greedo.. It looks bad.. Now granted the head jerk that Han does in the newer versions still looks weird, but at least you can see what actually happened, and I think that adds to people disliking it because previously you inferred Han was the only one to shoot.
I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I actually prefer "Victory Celebration" to "Yub Nub". For me, the former fits the celebratory feel of the ending better. It's more melodic, it's more sweeping and it has far bigger crescendo. But that's just me.
I’m just gonna leave this here; Episode 8 of Droids is “The Revenge of Kybo Ren” so there’s that for caravan of garbage before rise of skywalker *wink* *wink*
If George wants to change something just redo a the CGI from the 90s... I remember watching the new scenese(especially during the battle of Yavin) and thinking that it looked photo realistic and perfect when it first came out. Now its very clear when the ships are all CG and i think they could make it look much better with today's technology.
Star wars fans: "George Lucas shouldn't have been pushed out of star wars, it's his creation" Star wars fans a couple months later: "WTF DOES MACLUNKY MEAN!?!?!?"
Imagine if they made it so you could customize your own version of the Star Wars films? Like go to settings and turn different changes on and off. Personally I’d love that
1:39 your editor/animator is truly god-tier at this point. I’ve always been impressed by his work on the comic panels but this really puts him into the stratosphere
