This piece of furniture is called a chifforobe. Chifforobe is a word type called a portmanteau, a word formed by blending two other words together, in this case chiffonier (chest of drawers) and a wardrobe (cabinet for hanging clothes). Chifforobes were first advertised in the United States in the 1908 Sears and Robuck catalog.

I have one made of solid maple. The lady sold it to me was the daughter of the furniture maker in Eastern Canada. On one side there is a pivoting brass gizmo to hold an array of ties and a mirror is inside that door. She called it a “gentleman’s wardrobe”.

Can't say I have ever heard them called that. Maybe it's an American name. Here is seems mainly to be called a gentleman's wardrobe, but I have heard tallboy and other names used over the years as well.

That veneer is magical and once you applied the last coat it transformed the piece. My favourite bit was "Mando in the cupboard"! He is such a character....

In the US, we call that a chifferobe. What defines the piece is the vertical spaces with drawers on one side and hanging space n the other. A tallboy, on the other hand, is simply a very tall dresser with drawers and no hanging space, just maybe a cubbyhole for hats.

@@amysbees6686 Where I'm from -- which is the Midwest -- a wardrobe is a free-standing unit that has hanging space all across the width. It there are drawers, they are at the bottom.

Welcome to Bengal parenthood! They are vocal, active, play rough and are very needy. They are amazing personalities. We lost our boy the Monday before Eater this year, we just rescued a little girl two weeks ago. We were looking for another Bengal, once you've had one there is no going back. As for the wardrobe - it came up beautifully, loved the second set of legs

I love the coat of the Bengal. I have a very common tabby, but he's a big cat, as in tall, bigger feet, etc. The personality sounds like my tabby! My cat Jax talks all the time, needy, always going, very lovable. He's a handful! I do adore him. Maybe some hidden Bengal in him???

That's true. We are parents of a 14 yo senior Bengal and he is still very active. When he gets bored he starts crying with an hilarious low voice 'moooooouuuuuu'. 😹He needs a lot of attention, I always have to play hide and seek with him. We love him so much! 💞 Btw our Maui looks just the same like Mango.

Bengal cats are well known for being a very vocal breed. They have a tendency for being independent cats but Mando seems to like the neighbourhood cats so it might be beneficial to get him a friend. Or you could just end up with two wild cats and it could be even more chaotic, lol.

The first time I heard this expression, it was on a cooking show with Jamie Oliver. He says it all the time, and I get a kick out of hearing it in your videos. It’s so much more British than other options like “ta-dah” or “voila” to say “there you go” when you’ve finished a step in the process.

Its so uniquely you Jay. Love the heavy grain of the veneer. The wax oil color is perfect, i was afraid it was going to be too dark. But its not. The brass pulls and lega were absolutely the right choice. Love this piece!

Anyone remember The Furniture Guys that used to be on PBS? I loved them. Anyway, they'd use a hypodermic needle to add glue to tight cracks. In this instance, I think our hero made the better choice.

You do come across the most unique furniture finds. I especially like the way you placed the grain horizontally & vertically on the front. That veneer is gorgeous and an excellent choice 😍 You were right to change your mind on the legs, while they were very pretty legs they didn't quite look right (and obviously as you said were not steady) the second choice of brass legs was absolutely perfect and just fitted the whole look of the tallboy so much more basically taking it from lovely to gorgeous 🥰 Hello Rad and welcome look forward to getting to know you 😁😁

Who could’ve imagined that veneer would work? It almost matches Mondo’s fanciness… or his finess ~ I say meow away til your dad gets you a leash and starts walking you to the park. Tell him it’s past time you see the sights. If your dad can pick out this veneer, he can clearly see there is so much out there to show you. I think the staining of the veneer made the high contrast in color match the other wood nicely.that way without contrast the veneer served to provide contrast. Very pretty

Yes, that was a great idea about the different legs. They go so well with this piece. I didn’t expect the veneer to look as great as it does, this was a great transformation! Btw, I don’t have a bengal cat but I have a Russian blue (similar but not the same as a British shorthair - they’re all grey) and she talks all the time. It used to drive me nuts but it’s mostly just part of the background noise to my life now. She’s my baby.

Interesting grain pattern to the veneer - I’ve not seen that before. You were right about the legs…I could see the piece wobbling as you applied the finish. The metal legs really changed the look to a more modern, yet still classic, look. No one would guess how it looked when you started. I’d say this piece was a resounding success!

Wow! That white veneer was amazing, it is unusual, but it worked in the end, the stain that you used brought it altogether brilliantly. Nice choice on the legs and matching draw handles. It doesn't even look like the same cabinet.

Your second choice of legs was perfect. Though you should have put the veneer running the same direction as the main door. It would have been less busy and more elegant. Good job on the finish.

Well, Jay I have to admit that veneer is really something! However, for this piece, I think it was ideal. It’s quirky yet stylish. The brass legs are absolutely wonderful. You took an abused piece and made it look so much better.😊
