@@maggiecarroll8660 Yes it's astonishing. New quality real wood has become unaffordable for so many. No trees. No soul. Instead of painting over to bring color into a room PAINT the ROOM.
Yeahhhh... therein lies the secret, yeh? To me, that was just an ugly AF old piece of scrap wood. I totally lack the artistic talent to see the possibilities underneath. Kudos to FD for spotting that and then having the skill to carry it off. Another masterpiece from Flipping Drawers 🌞 Look, I'm still not awestruck by those hideous bandy legs but I know there's lots of people who like 'em to I won't hold that against them, I'm sure it's just me 😝
Simply stunning once again. That hardware is perfect for the piece. You would never know that the drawers have new veneer. I love it! I'm so happy you saved it from the trash. Great job Jay and Rad.💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I appreciate how you attend to every little detail/crack/joint and make sure you restore it as best as it can be. You are a purrfeshional :) Well done :)
I love how you can see a broken down piece of furniture that’s been discarded, unwanted, and restore it to a stunning piece that almost anyone would love to have! It gives me so much hope to see a piece of furniture restored. Thank you for sharing your talents and reminding us all to keep holding on to hope and that great value is found in the master’s eye.
Oh my gosh, I learn so much from you! I only restore/finish furniture for my own use, but watching you has helped me do such a much better job for myself. In fact, I am restoring a little painted side table right now and find myself thinking, “now you go back and re-do that, Jay would never let that go!” I’ll never be as good as you, but I sure do appreciate your vision, artistry, and skill. Super glad you re-did the drawers…BTW
Seeing your name gave me good memories. I knew a famous artist with your name who lived in Laguna Beach, and then Lahaina. She was fantastic and such a wonderful friend. Thanks for the memories!
Great save on the drawer fronts! I really think the wax finish on the interior of the drawers adds a lot of class to the finished work too. I also thought the factory design on the slides demonstrated a higher build quality. That was a long and worthwhile trip from trash on the street to elegant.
Hello to you and Rad. Glad you have an apprentice to help you out. You do great work and it’s wonderful you are able to share your experience with Rad, as well as showing all of us .
This is beautiful restoration work. The legs feel mismatched and the hardware is too large for such a delicate piece, however, that is a matter of personal taste. Nothing can detract from your dedication and obvious talent. This channel is a joy to watch.
I love the way this turned out! And the new hardware is perfect. Because of watching you and other furniture fixers and crafters on RU-vid, I have started doing a few small projects around my house. It is encouraging to see professionals such as yourself mess up and need to redo things since I am finding many skills aren't as easy as they look. I also purchased a mouse sander to help with my small projects. Sanding isn't as easy as you make it look, either😊
I am glad that you found my videos inspiring. I wish you good luck with your projects. You are right! Nothing is as easy as it seems! Thank you for watching! 😊
Jay when you started to sand the piece and the music came on it had a certain vibe to it and I thought you were going to start dancing around it 😂so glad you’ve given it a new life as a desk, who wouldn’t want to sit in front of a beautiful piece like that. ❤from Australia
Wow seems an inadequate interjection, what an amazing transformation! It's just extraordinary to see this sad, discarded and damaged piece brought to life under your exacting and loving care. Totally beautiful, Jay, as always with your work. How lovely to see Hugo and Mando playing together too. 🐈🐈⬛💕
You are an amazing woodworker. I love that even when you make a mistake you show how you fixed it. Great job as usual. Your four legged assistants are so adorable. Your two legged assistant seems very helpful.
I feel like every time I watch one of your videos, you end up producing the most elegant version possible of whatever you’re working on, and that was true again this time. While the new pulls are not my personal style, I have to admit they suit the finished piece beautifully. And the grain on both the old and new veneers was stunning! Thank you so much for sharing your process!
@@FlippingdrawersI was recently looking back and saw you restored a 50’s post war drawer unit identical to one I have with a matching Tallboy that belonged to my late parents. I may have a go at restoration over the winter months. It’s the painted roadside one on the KFC trip. 👍❤️
@@Flippingdrawers I did enjoy watching it over my lunch break. Suggestion for clamping curved surfaces, try a sponge sanding block in between the piece and the clamp.
@@Flippingdrawers you are really good at explaining your processes throughout your videos. Do you mentor the same way? How would your apprentice describe your teaching style? What a beautiful vanity you worked your magic on. I've been a viewer for a while and it has been lovely watching you come out of your shell. You have a great sense of humor 🙂
The quality of your work is stunning!!! You think through all the details so carefully. When someone shows their work, I look at their results and imagine how you would do it:)) Thank you for creating masterpieces☺️
Wow!, that looks lush. What a transformation. I love the two-tone wood colours, the grain looks beautiful and the hard wear is spot on. Another masterpiece Jay and well done Rad.
Lovely job, Jay! It turned out 💋! “Cat break” is now part of the Flipping Drawers lexicon. Love those kitties!😻😻 You are most certainly a professional, Jay! Look how well Rad is doing!👏👏👏
Don’t let your new apprentice fool you . He is most definitely over 18 and can buy you a pint . If he tells you any different tell him if he’d have had a shave he would have got away with it 😂 I shall now refer to him as the worlds oldest apprentice . In all seriousness good on you it took me over 30 years to find a job I actually like . Let’s hope this leads to opportunities for you good luck to you . I don’t think you can have a better teacher
Worlds oldest apprentice 😄 I have many different proffesions under my belt but this was the opportunity I couldn't miss. It's a great adventure/experience for me to work with Jay. Also it's good to step out of your comfort zone once in a while . You never know what awaits on the other side. Thank you for your funny and kind comment 😊 I wish you good luck as well! - Rad
Beware roaches in old damp furniture (crevices and cracks, too) Decaying wood is soft and easy to eat. Roaches can digest cellulose, allowing them to eat wood and other tree-based matter, such as paper and cardboard. Unfortunately, this means wooden furniture can be a source of sustenance. Roaches can eat paint, so treat wooden furniture with varnish.
Your defo an Artist! The work you do is perfection!! We’re all very lucky that you allow us to join you on your amazing journey! I’ve learned a lot from your videos and I’m looking forward to learning even more from your future videos, again! Thanks for letting us join you so we can all learn from the best!!
Hi Jay from NOLA (New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. As always the restoration of this vanity is stunning. I’m so glad you changed the veneer on the drawers. I agree that I can’t imagine anyone guessing that you did. To me, it was the perfect match to the top. Thanks for giving us a little view of Mando & Hugo.🐾💗 They are so beautiful & sweet. Have a wonderful day. 😊🇺🇸
WOW! It turned out so beautifully! What a challenge and to make it so stunning after sitting in rain is a testament to your talent so happy you shared this with us!
Absolutely beautiful final result. I love that it lived its first life as a vanity and now its second as a desk. Great color, and the drawer pulls work perfectly.
Making mistakes is one of the reasons for which we came here (earth) ~ we are to be learning always ~ also, praying always in our hearts ~ your thinking, during the process of this piece, is admirable, appropriate in many ways, as well as out of the ordinary ~ I had to breathe deeply, during watching some of your ongoing choices! ~ super great work that brought beauty to what looked hopelessly sad ~ wish I could sit and have coffee and a chat w you and your apprentice ~ so glad I can watch you carry on!
I gotta catch my breath for a moment. Wow Jay! This vanity is gorgeous. I’m happy to say those drawers look far better than the originals. I do like the legs a lighter color more on the natural side. Yes my friend, you did amazing job on it n it shows. It’s a beauty n a keeper. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👍🌟🐈⬛
