From the reviews I've seen of both, I think this 10mm is the winner. JUST used Mark's link to buy the 10mm. At the same time, I bought the Viltrox 13mm.
This lens has insane optical performance, it's decent wide open, and perfectly sharp corner to corner when stopped down. My 24mp Sony a6300 is the one holding the lens back. Too bad I haven't learned how to shoot ultra-wide photos yet.
Thank you for the clear and comprehensive review of this lens. Your content is valuable enough that I bought this lens (in part) because of the cogent and clear points points made herein. I do, however, have one (hopefully constructive) criticism I'd offer: The video is laden with "sort ofs," "kind ofs," "like," including multiples of these even within the same sentence. See for example c. the 5 minute mark for stark examples of this. I wouldn't bring this up (perhaps it seems picayune?) but it was distracting enough that I reached to click away. I hope this is helpful. Thanks again for the laudable content.
I am waiting for the fuji 8/3.5 next year. I don't do astro though. And I like autofocus :D. Hm. I really wish we had a good wide angle lens comparison from someone. This, nisi 9, vilrox 13 and samyang 12. Everyone compliments the samyang, but to me the lens is quite meh @f/8. Maybe it's just my copy, or I've bumped it too much.
Guess I will never get the M6 vs RP photo comparison video you promised : ( I am sure I am not alone wanting to see side by side comparisons it is #1 tripods, b ipods, straps whatever that all comes second to image quality and PHOTO characteristics - this really is the number one issue for most of us / not the gear. I wanted you to do it Mark because I trust your output more than the limited shaggy videos we have available currently : (
@@markwiemels I did watch the video thank you, Wondering on the focusing time depending on if you are shooting with full (A) auto, shutter priority, or aperture priority whatnot auto focus gives you green light way faster when Canon is making all the decision vs just letting the camera handle ISO it is night and day when it comes to grab time. I am assuming you were shooting in full auto on both cameras? The algorithm unique to canon make & model or other cameras. One camera might juggle the pyramid different than another giving you this tweak in full auto while another gives you that. I tend to go with M/auto ISO most often when birding because I don't have time to get ISO correct on moving target, however I prefer lower shutter speeds w/lower ISO where as Canon like to crank it up, but the images tend to suck IMO , then there is very up close up shots w/insects and in this case total opposite Canon makes better decisions giving sharper end result which kind of goes along with them shining at a closer range.
They are both very very good, I have not tested them side by side, but I should. For the money, the Samyang is one of the bests lenses ever made. It would be hard to beat on pure value.
