yeah, that was the Echo Tap, the portable speaker. Kinda defeats the purpose, imho.

It must be plugged in at all times. Unless you purchase those new portable Batteries that are specifically made for the Dot. The Dot is like a VCR or DVR box only works while plugged in does not have a rechargeable battery inside. Fremo has partnered with Amazon and sells exclusively on their site a portable battery made for the Echo Dot 2 called EVO. It is $35.

Reset it and connect to the internet in the Alexa app

Use the Alexa app on your phone/tablet, select the Echo Dot under settings, go to Bluetooth, and have it scan for speakers that are in pairing mode. Once you've paired it through the app, it will automatically re-pair, but if it doesn't, you can say "Alexa, pair my bluetooth speaker"

Yes, unless you buy a battery to attach to it. I've done a couple of videos on batteries for the Echo Dot

By default it is pulling music from Amazon's Music Store I think ti is called Amazon Prime Music. I have an Amazon Prime Account, but you don't need to be a Prime Member to gain access. No you are not being charged because it is free but it has a very limited library of music. You can however, get Amazon's Music Unlimited subscription and get their full library. If you have a Pandora Account or a Spotify Premium account you can enable those as well. It also plays music from TuneIn Radio and iHeart Radio. I have all but Spotify enabled on mine because I am not going to pay for Spotify. I already have a Pandora Plus subscription. I wish Alexa could hook up to my Sirius XM account because I am paying for that too. Maybe one day it will be in an update to the software.

I remember reading an article by someone that made a case for why it is not a good thing that Google Home gives you an answer for anything you ask it. The article said in a Google Search you get many possible answers and if you were doing the search on a computer you don't always go with the first hit that comes up. Sometimes what you are looking for is not even on the first page of results. Well Google Home gives you the top most result from a search that comes on the fist page whether that is the correct answer or not does not matter. This was the argument the person used for why Amazon is not doing it like that. I am not sure if that is the real reason but is very plausible. It makes sense too. I have conducted many a search on Google and have in a lot of cases not chosen the link that comes up first at the top of the page and in some other cases not chosen any of the results on the first page at all. I have scrolled through the other pages of results looking for what I wanted. Currently neither device is equipped to really think like a Human and discern what it is you are really looking for. Now the Google Home does do a better job of following up on questions you have asked and that is where they beat the Echo. Hopefully Amazon will figure this out.

For my family, alarms, timers, weather, news, music, even jokes (7 year old loves it). These kind of gadgets are really primarily useful for those times where you don't want to pull out your phone, or you'd rather just interact with your voice. Walking in the door with an armload of groceries, you can tell it to adjust your smart thermostat. Cutting up chicken for dinner, you can tell it to set a timer for whatever you just put in the oven, etc.

Nope, you're absolutely right. It's not for everyone. Would I have bought the original Echo if I didn't make videos? Probably not. For $50 (or less when bundling), I would have considered it. It's a first world solution to a first world problem, and I love it. :)

I think $50 is a wonderful price to try this out. It sure beats the $700 + price I paid and I am still paying for my Smartphone. It does a lot of the things my phone could do without me having to use my hands. Whatever I want my phone to do I first have to pick it up and press something to get it to do it and that applies to all Smartphones. With the Echo all I have to do is say her name "Alexa" and she responds.

It is powered by the included microUSB cable and the wall plug (Echo Dot -> microUSB cable -> Wall power adapter). You can set it up using the Alexa app on your phone, but it can run on a wifi network. For example, I have wifi here in my home, so the Echo Dot connects to my home wireless network and is available all the time.

No, the Echo Dot does not have a battery. You can purchase a battery for it ( videos about them on my channel) but on its own, it must be plugged in to work

Nope. Technically you don't even need a phone or tablet, just a wifi-connected laptop or desktop. You can go to alexa.amazon.com/spa/index.html#new-oobe and set up the device there.

The speaker has gotten worse with every hardware update, but the price has also dropped a ton. The original Echo was $200, the 1st Echo Dot was $100, and this one is $40-50. Good thing is, you can pair these up to a bluetooth speaker, so it's not a big deal.

For the price, it's hard to say no. As long as you aren't planning to use it as a primary music speaker, it gets the job done. If you have a good bluetooth speaker, even better.

Most people have good Bluetooth Speakers or at the very least they have a Bluetooth speaker. Any Bluetooth speaker will work and sound louder than the speaker that comes with the Echo. I have the Dot in my bedroom hooked up via line in (Aux) cable to my Bose Radio. In my Dining Room to a Tower Speaker that has Bluetooth and in my Bathroom connected to a shower Bluetooth Speaker. I have a plastic covering over my Dot. Plus while I am in the shower I turn on my Exhaust Fan to pull out the steam.

I wasn't watching this particular video while near my Echo Dot, but I have watched other videos. Last night I had to mute mine because she responded with the same exact answer as the Echo Video I was watching.

The Echo Dot doesn't have a battery in it, so it doesn't charge. It has to stay plugged in all the time. You can buy an external battery for it, like this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gdC-AO7BXR8.html, but the only Amazon Echo item that comes with a battery is the Amazon Tap.

Gloria Giefer my advice would be to hold down the action button until the orange ring light starts spinning then go to your alexa app and go to settings then click on echo dot and redo the WiFi setup and your echo dot should work I hope this helped

If you wanted to, you could connect the Dot to your PC/Mac through the aux at the back of the Dot. But you cannot use commands such as: 'Alexa, play/shuffle music on iTunes'. This is not possible - only works with Spotify and TuneIn. Hope this helped :)

I have played music from my phone through the Dot so in essence you can but not the same way you could with one of the music services. I connected my phone using Bluetooth or you can a line in cable. So you could do the same with your iphone or ipod thus you would be able to play your iTunes library.

I am not worried about that at the moment. My understanding is that devices like these are only listening for the Wake Word. In this case "Alexa, Amazon or Echo" are the wake words. Once the Echo hears that it starts to listen for further instructions after a couple of seconds and you don't ask it to do anything it goes back to just waiting for the Wake Word. Everything you say to it once you have said the Wake Word can be seen in the Alexa App so you know what is being recorded and what is not.
