Amberlynn Reid: "It's Not Fair" (The Victim Mentality)

Amberlynn Reid's audience is often frustrated by her lack of accountability. She has a tendency to make excuses, blame other people and seemingly does not take responsibility for her actions - while simultaneously looking for sympathy.
This has lead to her being accused of possessing a "victim-mentality," even earning her the nickname "Victimlynn".
In this video we'll be discussing what the victim mentality is, where we can see it in Amberlynn Reid, and how it might be sabotaging any hope Amberlynn has at succeeding on her weight loss journey.
We cover Amberlynn Reid's general attitude toward her audience, the moment she quits Optavia, the "Binge Monster", 100 days of uploading, and most importantly the toxic mindset standing between Amberlynn and her health.
My hope is that with a greater understanding of the mindset and psychology of weight loss we all might be able to learn how to manage our weight and the obesity epidemic more effectively.
We all have a tendency to make excuses and rationalize away things we don't like - but ultimately the more we take ownership of our actions the more power we possess to change our behavior.
Thanks for watching - let me know if you have any suggestions for my future videos!

A 900 calorie diet is too little, in my opinion. The weight would be FLYING off her at 1700-2000c/day. She has to be eating closer to 5500-6000 a day just to *maintain* that size.
@alliefu7499
@alliefu7499 4 года назад
Definitely. 900 is too little for any adult, especially for her weight. Too bad her second choice was to go back to whatever she was eating.
@hannie.haneul
@hannie.haneul 4 года назад
I was on 800 kcal diet for three months, but I was constantly monitored by dietitian, psychologist, and doctor. Even with professional help, I was struggling to do normal things like working, I felt so fatigued the doctor had to give me weekly "stamina boost" injections. And I was already in healthy BMI. My daily calorie expenditure was 1500 kcal when I started and reduced to 1000-1200 by the end, so 800 kcal diet isn't actually too extreme for my size. Can't imagine someone as big as Amber go on 900 kcal without proper professional guide, she's FIVE TO SIX TIMES my weight I assume her daily needs would be 5000-6000 kcal.

I read that 1200 or below is considered Anorexia. I did 1400 for six months. It was hell. But I lost about 4 lbs a week. But yeah, even she ate just 500 under maintenance, she would see a pound a week. 500! That's nothing!

regarding Optavia, she could literally just have said "I wasn't enjoying it and my doctor told me too quit because the calories were too low for me" and that would have been sufficient.
@irmaktemel7171
@irmaktemel7171 Год назад
I don’t think the doctor told her to quit but she chose to interpret “that’s not enough food” to going back to her old habits. Because even tho she could survive even months with just water she needs the nutrition from food to lose weight the healthy way. She could choose to double the calories and she would still be losing weight like crazy because that is still most likely less than half the amount she normally eats
@fatcatisfat1018
@fatcatisfat1018 Год назад
@@irmaktemel7171 it actually is possible the doctor said that. 900 calories isn't enough even for a pretty much for a person with normal weight. Even if she has the body fat to lose, it wouldn't provide her with everything she needs. Like, you can live off of a piece of bread and water every day but it's a matter of time when your teeth crumble and you lose your hair. You can't just jump from 3+k calories to 900 a day and expect it to work fine

Her mistake and many other people's mistake is beginning with a super duper high expectation and goal . Remember nobody gain weight in a couple of days or during just vacation , she , us in general gained every pound day by day , week after week, years, DECADES!, But nope , now I'll start to eat 900 or less calories per day because I want to loose 100 pounds per month . That's not how it works !. As you gained weight little by little , your loose must be also like that

@brians1793
@brians1793 4 года назад
@@80sneon-rainbowgalaxyempre12 This is why most people will never get it, it just looks like she's being a big baby to most people. Normal humans wouldn't eat hot dogs lol. Normal humans would eat like the diets of their indigenous ancestors or as close as realistically possible, not these fake junk foods fried in refined vegetable oils. It really says something when people close to her eat things like that around her, like, you wouldn't do that around an alcoholic or drug addict, you know? If you did you wouldn't act like they're the problem if it seemed to upset them. Why is junk food addiction any different? Sometimes other drug addicts will try to get another addict to get back into it though, or 'beer buddies', probably in denial themselves. Most people are oblivious to their selfishness and narcissism, they shouldn't have to change their ways for another's sake, only their own sake. All they have to do is not eat things like that at certain times, they can still eat those things other times. Addictions like hers are the worst, you don't go into the break room at work and see drugs and alcohol on the table, you see junk food. It's fucking everywhere, the temptation is everywhere. Kids are getting addicted to it early and keeping kids away from it is made so difficult for parents, and there's fake 'healthy' things like sugary yogurt and fruit juices. Then there's the lack of understanding and others downplaying how real the addiction is, most people are carb addicts in denial. I literally can't begin to talk about keto around some people without them getting so triggered and defensive, "Carbs aren't all bad!". It's not that all carbs are bad, it's that running on them with literally no adaptation to keto causes metabolic syndrome, maybe even increasing Alzheimer's risk which is called type 3 diabetes for a reason, the brain no longer uses glucose properly, so it shrinks. Allowing your body to make it's own glucose from dietary and body fat, rather than all these blood glucose fluctuations from dietary carbs, that alone could probably help a lot, but so could adapting the brain to partially use ketones as alternative fuel, it will certainly prevent brain shrinkage and could prevent the energy crisis of not using glucose properly in the first place. It's probably the dietary glucose causing blood glucose fluctuations with no keto adaptation causing metabolic syndrome causing the energy crisis. Even when that happens, adapting to keto before it's too late could probably help, same with fatty liver and type 2 diabetes which keto can reverse both, maybe even heart disease as long as you keep omega 6's low along with carbs. People these days don't know what 'normal' is anymore, your average person's way of eating is anything but normal for humans. I've been rethinking what a 'balanced' diet ideal for most people would be like, I'm thinking 1-2 meals most days, keto/targeted-keto, and based on quality animal foods. Fat and protein are essential macros, not carbs, it makes sense to get most your energy from healthy fats, not carbs. But people think keto is 'unbalanced'. People don't understand balance is more about micronutrients and the essential macros fat and protein, even carnivore diet can be balanced with zero carbs and plant foods, animal-based and keto/targeted-keto is more realistic and easier to balance though, that's what I do. I used to be very plant-based and seriously considering vegan, technically non-essential nutrients like saturated fat and cholesterol, as well as some proteins and micronutrients only in animal foods, are still important for optimal health, I realize that now.

@vault_dwelIer 2 года назад
@@jacobmuraco4276 Good for your mom, but the program itself is incredibly predatory. "Certified Heatlth Coaches" (the salespeople) sign people up to a starvation diet program that costs hundreds of dollars a month and controls what you can eat, renaming it fuelings.. People lose weight by eating a ton of processed Optavia products and one single " normal meal" a day that is extremely restrictive, ultimately resulting in a massive calorie deficit. All while spending an enormous amount of money, and being pressured to sign others up or become a "coach" themselves. Most people gain the weight back because spending thousands a year on a processed starvation diet is unsustainable. The program, like all other mlms, also convinces the salespeople that they will shortly become rich themselves if they just keep signing people up, all while it bleeds them dry. Some people lose weight, but in the end it is still a predatory mlm scheme.

Maybe they can't control you, but they control your happiness. If you disobey them you pay dearly... Well, I don't feel like those thoughts are from someone else. I know that is me, and I know how I'll feel if I make the wrong choice. I know I'll be better off listening to myself, but others will punish me for not making the choice they wanted, and I may end up losing something I needed. But then my anxiety comes from trauma and sensory overload so it may be different in my case

I kinda feel for Amberlynn on a personal level. Food is super addictive, even I've caught myself complaining about how unfair it is. While I do sympathize with her, she does need to learn to control herself and stop feeling bad about it. Trying to stay on a "diet" for me ended the same it did for her, so I cut the diet and changed my plans. I started fasting and then having a day or two to have a pizza or that salad loaded with high calorie proteins. Maybe it's not the "healthiest" thing to some people, but it works for me and my mental/physical health is so much better than it used to be.

same. i literally know what's affecting my weight so strongly - all i would need to do is cut it out of my diet and i'd probably lose all the excess weight quicker than you could drop a penny on the floor. you really start to realize just how low you can stoop when you let yourself slip, and now to make things worse im battling an adderall addiction as well (which probably makes a food addiction look more appealing, in all honesty) itd be great to diet and get healthier, and itd be great to drop the drugs for obvious reasons, but its just fascinating how your brain rewires itself to think you depend on this stuff to function. food is an immediate comfort that many struggle with the idea of cutting out, me included. of course, im not gonna whine and blame the world and my mother for the fact that i got myself in this position, as slow of a burn as it was. it's hard to climb out of a hole when you've dug it to fit a coffin, which is why i have nothing but admiration for people who find the strength to get out of their comfort zone. congrats to you for taking the steps to recovery, and i hope things get better for you in the future

I used to have this victim mentality. I'm so glad that I've changed my mindset and learned that I am in control of myself, my actions, and my emotions. Oddly enough the thing that finally made me realize this is when I was put on a medication that completely wrecked my mental state. I had absolutely zero control over my own emotions. I could burst into tears randomly for absolutely no reason. Once I finally got my doctor to believe me and got her to change the dose I instantly felt better. That medication showed me what it was truly like to have zero control over my emotions. It made me realize that I DID have control over my emotions, I just wasn't exercising it. Now that.I've.learned that my mental health and overall quality of life have improved so much.

Every time I watch anything with her in it, its a punch in the face to remind me just how things can get if I refuse to take responsibility. @boblangford5514

2000-2500? That is a pretty big range of eating. What is you caloric maintenance? When I was over 200 pounds, my maintenance was about 2500, maybe a little higher, so I was eating between 1800 & 1900 per day, and I’d have a “cheat” day once a week where I’d eat close to maintenance, trying not to go over. I was losing 1.5 - 2 pounds per week with this plan. It took almost a year, but I lost 75 pounds, and now I’m at a healthy weight.
@edadragneel1569
@edadragneel1569 9 месяцев назад
@@boblangford5514true it’s a big range and a lot of calories, but it can be normal depending on how much calories he burns during the day. If you’re doing a labor intensive job and working out a few times a week, I could see eating around 2000 a day to make up for some of those calories burned during the work day/workout. It all just depends on your lifestyle and how far along you are in your weight loss journey (since it’s always good to gradually lower your calorie intake and slow integrate healthier foods rather than trying one of these crash diets where you’re more likely to just keep binging because you’re not eating enough)
@boblangford5514
@boblangford5514 9 месяцев назад
@@edadragneel1569 When I said it was a big range, I meant that saying you eat between 2000 and 2500 calories is a big gap and therefore not an accurate estimate. 2500 - 2000 = 500, and that’s a lot of calories to not keep track of. I used to have a close friend with victim mentality. She used to blame everything else for her weight, and poor life decisions. Everyone was her diary to cry out to. And a lack of integrity as a person, being easily influenced in taking decisions, by anyone. She also had a tendancy to get upset very easily, believing that nothing ever was her own fault. I even tried to teach her how to live a healthier lifestyle so her weight wouldn’t cause her so much pain, but all I’ve seen were pizza boxes in her home even after. She behaved like she couldn’t control her intake of unhealthy food. After 4 years of friendship in which I helped her get through life, even cooked for her and cleaned her home so she wouldn’t live in a mess, her lack of self control ultimatelly caused her to spill all my secrets left and right. These videos are literally opening my eyes to so much. I struggle with my weight and I am realizing that when I find myself struggling to maintain my diet, I cry and just get angry at how powerless I feel against my urges and I very much have a victim mentality in those times and I never even realized how detrimental that is and how I do have power of that attitude and my situation, I just want to justify my eating by convincing myself that I’m a victim of my lack of control. Which isn’t accurate at all haha. Thank you for making these videos!

It's because overeating, chronically, is an addiction. Addictions can make you feel powerless because engaging in them gives you the hormones that you're missing if you have other mental illness, or any other deficit in positive feelings. It is definitely possible, and I'm proud of you for being introspective and having this realisation! But there's no shame in it being a hard process. It's chemically addictive, and food is one of the hardest Addictions to break because you always have to eat. You can never cold turkey. Your only choice is moderation which is a lot harder. (For reference, I've been fat my whole life and I'm loosing the weight atm. You do have to really question your habits and mental state- but you also have to cut yourself *some* slack. Just not as much as ALR does...) it's not your fault that it's so difficult, but it is your responsibility to change. I wish you the best on your journey!

It makes me really sad to see large people nosedive into very very low calorie diets and repeatedly fail. It's like they're punishing themselves for being fat in a way, and when they fail, they start searching for reasons why they are failing, or reasons to fail because it's so hard. And the victim mentality probably stems from this cycle of shame and being unable to deal with it. Like I gradually got myself down to a 1100 to 1200 calorie diet, i did it slowly and it never felt like I was starving... but if I randomly decided to eat just 800-900 calories tomorrow I would probably turn into an absolute hell monster. It's really the bare minimum for your body to be okay (and not at all enough if you're trying to work out) and if you're going from thousands of calories to just 900... I can't even imagine how it would be to traumatize your body over and over like that.

That`s not how it works. She would be just fine on a 0 or 50-100 calorie diet for weeks. It`s called fasting, one of nature`s greatest healers. Water has no calories. People go on a water only fast without problems. You can add lemon juice to it. Vegetables are very low in calories, she can drink them. Fruit juice fasts are not even fasts, you can feel so good and in abundance and still loosing wait, still heal. Absolutely no sympathy for her.

You can partially blame the "starvation mode" peddlers for at least part of this. Someone, like a therapist, needs to sit them down and explain how metabolism and weight loss works with a full discussion on how their normal eating pattern was way too much.
