A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by a few moments of reflection. After extensive or laborious sequencing, it is always a breath of fresh air to go back to the NDLR, hook up four synths, and be instantly inspired. The NDLR just sounds musical and pleasing at nearly any settings, thanks to its smart transposition of arrangements via its chord buttons. It certainly doesn't hurt to hook it up to some pleasing sounding synths, either!
Happy holidays, and thanks as ever for your support.
Conductive Labs The NDLR - Four sequencing lines (pad, bass drone, arp 1, arp 2)
Roland JU-06A + Strymon NightSky - Pad
Moog Grandmother Dark + Union Tone & Transistor LAB + Empress Reverb - Arp 1 (eighth notes)
Korg ARP Odyssey module + Eventide TimeFactor - Bass
Dreadbox Typhon - Arp 2 (triplets)
Written within a few minutes and recorded/performed live, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

So many good things to say on your video Jay. Awesome sounds, so inspiring and I've enjoyed listening to it immensely. The chord progression between 5.30 and 6.00 is just sublime. I have the NDLR and Odyssey too and enjoy playing them so much that I get major withdrawal symptoms when not using them. Love the use of all your instruments in this video though, such a well crafted and thought out piece of ambient music with great musical content. I thought this video was going to be just another average demo of some nice gear,...oh how wrong I was. I'll be listening to the sound in your video a lot over the holiday. My new favorite RU-vid video!

Amazing setup dude. I might get a grandmother. Can u recommend it for leads and sequemcing?
@JayHosking
@JayHosking 3 года назад
I tend to prefer leads that are a little overdriven and mid-range. I find the Grandmother/Matriarch to be just a little too mellow, and swapped out my Matriarch for the Subsequent 37 when jamming with my friend on drums. As such, I might be more inclined toward the Subsequent 37 or Bass Station II for leads, but I'm sure the GM would be fine, too.

Synth roadies! The best kind of Christmas elves. I don't think much about the arrangement, just start with the biggest piece of gear and work progressively smaller, with the understanding that the effects have to be close to the synths they're paired with. And thanks!

Nice pairing of the Moog and Korg. I'd love to see a video about sequencer programming and planning. Setting up a jam of several synths. How to think about space to let each synth be heard, note and key choices and what role a synth will perform (bass / lead / drone). Do you discover one part and it inspires you to build a sequence and weave in other synths? When and how do you decide to use FX?
